Can you win event when in overflow?
Marionette, yes I have beaten it in OF.
Triwurms, doubt it as it is now. There are weird problems in scaling that make organizing for the fight problematic, unless you start assigning builds to all 160 players. We have started to do this at Blackgate and we are almost there. But makes organizing in OF difficult.
No but I’ve gotten pretty close (4/5) a couple of times. The problem I’ve found in overflow is that people don’t listen like they do in main server. Come on guys, join my squad and listen when I’m talking to you. This is NOT a mindless zerg event. If you don’t listen to your commanders and actually coordinate as a lane you won’t succeed.
2 of my 3 wins were in overflows.
Sure, I just did, and have several times.
For Marionette, my score is 0:7 in overflow and 1:1 in main. To get into main, I had to camp the zone for an hour before the event started.
Beated her 5 times out of 6 in overflows, in main my ratio is 0 out of 2 xD

yes you can win in overflow. You just need to be in an overflow which organized group purposely go there.
You might have even better chance in an overflow because no one is on your home server(everyone given up)

It’s possible but less likely than your home server.
2 wins this weekend. It’s just getting lucky with not having someone clueless who doesn’t listen to mapchat in more than 2 lanes.

8/8 on marrionette when in an OF. You just need to make sure you keep the atmosphere light and fun. Talk in map/say chat a lot if you don’t have a TS/RC/Mumble. The biggest thing is to NOT chew out people, or yell at them in chat for making a mistake or failing a platform, it happens. Keep encouraging the lanes and those fighting on platforms.
Wurm I’ve yet to beat on a main or OF but in the OF we’ve come might dang close numerious times. Condisering Deso (grats guys!) is the only server to beat it thus far I’d say everyone is doing a great job and to keep at it! The kills will eventually come.

A few times. Much less than in main, but you can tell if an OF has a chance by how much organizing’s going on in map (and, of course, by the numbers).
Failed once in an overflow with dozens of people on SBI’s Teamspeak.
Succeeded once in an overflow where we just came up with a strat on mapchat and followed through.
Coordination helps, but it’s not everything.
(For the record, the successful Overflow strat was about 17-20 who would stay in a lane and then three parties of 5 who would start in lanes 1-3 and then jump. You’d have 17-20 defending and 22-25 in the circle fights. Worked very well.)

I was in a rather hilarious OF today. We had one commander take the lead and start coaching people through the event. Seemed like a well enough organized map and all lanes had enough people. We failed all but the max number of chains almost immediately, and the commander grew more hostile until he finally raged and left. With him gone and the weapon bar charged to like 97% with 1 chain severed, we then won in very short order.
I’ve won twice in an overflow and zero times on my main server. I tend to find that there are more people at the event in the overflows than on my main server.
A major problem I’ve noticed in overflows is that there are many afk people trying to get into the main servers. Last time I’ve had at least 10 people standing on top of the nearby waypoint. Personally, I think it’s a bit selfish of them.
I really wish anet would fix this by scaling events such as Tequatl, Wurm and Marionette. Same way how world events scale where enemies get more HP and grow in numbers with more players around. This way people also don’t feel obliged to guest to higher populated servers, releasing some of the pressure for them as well.

That is awesome! Props to you guys for sticking to it and not giveing up! XD

Usually there aren’t enough people. If there are, and they can communicate (which can be a problem in Eu servers) then a win is possible. It’s just that unless it is a guild spawned instance, it’s generally unlikely.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
One win in a non guild overflow, zero wins at home :<
Soon, though, I hope!
I’ve had 2 wins on main server and 3 on OF. Just a matter of paying attention, organizing, and enough people in each lane.
Fort Aspenwood
I was in an overflow win in the last one, the 5 pm Eastern one. It was great! Even if my platform failed on boss 2 because we only had 3 people and one was DOA. Then we got to try boss 5 and my platform won but 2 others lost.
Hurray for overflow lane 3!
Both wins in overflows. In yesterday’s overflow win, EVERY lane beat their boss first attempt. That was very cool.
On FS we beat it 4x in a row in OF the second day after release. What latecomers to the event need to realize is that except for dailies a lot of skilled players stop playing content once they have all achievements leaving the unskilled and unaware at their mercy. So overflows are less likely to succeed as the event progresses. My advice would be to participate in new content ASAP after release or else your on your own.
For the LP boss:
Won in an overflow today (and on Sunday) – ported about 40 dedicated people+inside 15 mins before the event started and setup. It helped as 30 of us were in TS.
It helps if one commander gives the overarching strategy (Think of him/her as the general) and asks the lane commanders to perform certain things. The General then can give clear instructions and co-ordinate all the lanes and ensure everything is working well.
Brief everyone:
To bring mass ress skills, explain the bosses (each type) – and how boss 3 requires dodge, have a ranged weapon, buff might before going inside the lane.
The strategy inside killing the champs is a lot more important than the lane defenses (20/lane at all times is all good).
Ensure there are some lane hoppers to boost numbers for a gate fight get them to type a certain letter in map if they lane hop – e,g “5 people from lane 1 go to lane 4 type Z in map if you moving”.
Also:
It’s possible to have all the commanders in one party to co-ordinate what’s going on and report back if any lanes need help.
It can be done – people are still learning the fight.
Don’t give up yet!
Those overflows can now often be stronger than the main fight.
1/16, win was not in OF, all others were in OF. Think I’m done with this event. NB: my platform never failed.
I’ve finished Marionette more time in OF then I have in my home server

Perfectly doable in overflows as I’ve found it, but there’s a higher probability 1 lane will fail on one chain (usually 3rd or 5th). Main server seems more capable of accommodating enough players for 25+ lanes making things easy on a first go for everyone. Overflows get just enough to divide by 20 per lane and any attempts to get more players seem to fail. I’ve tried getting guildies in my squad multiple times but they just end up in different overflows.
Yes. My only win (out of 4 tries) was in overflow.
Did it more on overflows then on main map because it looks like the bear-bow rangers that cannot control their pets are leaving overflows right away but tend to camp the main map.
Completed it about 10 times now, of which 8 were on overflows. Probably did 15 runs in total.
Had a very cool Marroinette win last night on Overflow.
I didn’t have very high hopes at first because everyone was dead quiet and only started lane count when countdown started.
Turned out not enough people by far, but my gods, I have never seen a map pull together, like after the first chain fell for lane 1.
We had an almost perfect victory, it was awesome

Never managed to get in on my home server for either Marionette or Jungle Wurm so far, beaten Marionette several times in overflow

Succeeded with the last Puppet on an overflow. All 5 lanes did their thing, no fails.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
After extensive testing I’d have to say while it is possible to win in overflow you probably won’t.
My current record is 2 wins from 43 attempts.
From my main server I have 5 wins from 10 attempts.
Result may vary obviously, but I certainly look forward to getting in my main server and avoiding the normal overflow drama.
I dont’ even think the success rate is even high on main server.
That being said, I think many people are still enjoying themselves despite not even coming close. (or is it they are just doing the daily).

People are still having fun with it judging on comments after each one. Whether its still the number having fun as from the start I obviously don’t know but I still am. I love the anticipation, the highs and the lows. I’ll be doing it a few times a day until its taken away from me.

I’ve done it as many times in OF as I have in Main server.
3/16 suceed runs were in overflow, all other 13 were done in main server. (also a lot of fails in both sides).

In Europe it hard in overflow because you have different nationalitys speaking different languages.
Really, hard to plan anything when 1 group speaks English, another French, another German and some Spanish etc…
My experience was either a 50/50 split or maybe more wins so far in OF than main.
Overflow: 3 wins, 9 fails
Main: 3 fails
:D
And this was Europe, normally everyone understands some English.
I’ve won twice in overflow so far, three times on regular server.
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
Have 3 successful attempts so far. Don’t remember the split. I think it was 1 overflow and 2 in main.
Willingness to stick to it till the end regardless of whether it is overflow or main makes a huge difference.
Logged in last night. Lanes 2,3,4 failed on 2 so 1 fail short. Not exactly looking very good but then all the following attempts were successful and the event turned out to be successful. If people had given up at lane 5 then that would have been a failure instead.
One of the other successful attempts was similar.
The worse part of the event is having a chain fail at 4/5 but there is nothing you can do about it. Any effort you put into that was basically worthless.
I’ve been in two overflows where we downed the Marionette, so it is very possible.
As for the Wurm event…
No. Just, no.
Overflow or server flow, it’s happened what, once? That’s just silly.
