I’m not here to criticise, I’m legitimately interested in this.

Will people keep doing the Wurm fight? The way I see it, the percentage of fails to wins on even organised severs is such that people are going to give up before long.
The risk vs reward is just not sufficient for most people, and the only real motivation for doing this fight is entertainment and achievements. It won’t take long before people get their achievements or just give up on them. It won’t take long before people get bored of the fight. So what then?

Well, two weeks of research into the wurms mechanics by a couple of hundred determined players have culminated in the realization that possibly all the succesful attempts so far were caused by a bug that nobody was even aware of until two days ago. Nonetheless, all the servers/guilds who have managed to get a wurm kill are now widely regarded exploiters by the community and are now being monitored by ANet Developers.
Although I already have the meta achievment, I still like to do the event. But to be honest, I’m quite tired of how some of the most dedicated players in the game are being treated. I know of many wurm-regulars who feel the same way, which is why at the moment, if the communication doesn’t start to improve and there isn’t a huge fix incoming, I feel like the wurm will be deserted in a week or two.

I would point out that ANet has NOT said anything about regarding anyone as an exploiter. In fact it is generally their policy to ban people who exploit. (There are MANY instances of this happening) so I am sure they would be handing out bans if they thought people were purposefully exploiting.

The only people who are calling out people as “exploiters” are people within the community who for one reason or another feel that one group or another purposefully exploited a bug.

Also I would point out that with new content ANet watches it closely. They kinda have to, when you make something so new and so big it may end up doing things you never planned for when thousands of people start picking it apart. Thus they need to monitor all new content to make sure that it is working as they intended.

Personally when an ANet dev shows up in a TTS run I am happy. They play the game like everyone else and I am glad that they can get enjoyment out of what we are doing.
It also shows they care about their content. I mean what better way to say you enjoy this content then doing it probably hundreds of times.

If they are there it rarely is to spy on us or to make sure we are not exploiting. It generally is all about having fun, same thing you and I do.

As far as the actual post, I think that yes the Wurm will still be done. I doubt it will have as many people but when we can beat it regularly like we do with Teq then it will become something that certain groups do on a regular basis.

I know that at the very least TTS and TxS will continue to kill Wurm. It is kinda what we are set up for.

I never even bothered with the Wurm. Seriously, NSP only downed the Marionette twice how the hell are we going to be the Wurm?

The wurm is still pretty buggy. They need to get rid of the bugs and they need to improve the loot drastically. The loot is really bad….worse than Teq. For the hardest world boss in the game you should get better loot.

I like the fight, overall. But it does need tweaking. And I have to say I actually enjoy Marionette more (I REALLY wish that was permanent).

I intend to continue trying to work on the wurm with Desolation and [NiP] until we get it to a “farmable” state. Been present for two of our kills now, and I’m beginning to feel confident that we’re getting there.

That said, to make people really care about the wurm, its loot tables need to be significantly improved so that they actually reward people for taking part in some of the hardest (well, maybe not hardest, but maybe most intense) content in the game.

There’s no point in us working on perfecting tactics and getting a strong base of players who can teach “new” players to the fight, if everyone is going to be put off due to the bugs and terrible loot tablss.

People will do the wurm fight like they do Teq. It’ll be a little while longer as the set up takes time, but eventually it’ll be farmable.

The specialist guilds like TTS and TxS will continue to do the Wurm; they were formed specifically to tackle challenges like this and Teq. However, unless ANet buffs the Wurm’s rewards, I doubt even the big servers like Deso and BG will continue to do him for much longer. Most players now are just doing him for the achievements and their “first time” kills; once that’s done interest will fade away until it becomes like Teq, mostly abandoned on the majority of servers.

A group of people from Bg and other servers have come together to make a guild called [Att] It is our intent to refine strategies for the mega bosses and we plan to keep working on wurm. We enjoy it and want to be able to get a definitive strategy down.

Like [Att] , on EU we have a guild called [NiP] which was formed during Tequatl to make co-ordination and the such easier. We also have an EU community website to go along with the TeamSpeak server where people can discuss everything.

Deso (technically, Deso and our very dedicated guesters who join us every day) will continue to do the wurm for a fair amount of time yet. The players who only want achievements and then leave don’t bother us too much, if they stay with us for a day, they tend to improve significantly toward the end and we get very respectable runs. We’re not quite at the consistent killing state that TTS or TxS are at yet, but most days we are very close to a kill if we don’t manage it.
