I have visited Scarlet’s Lair underneath the Priory twice. On the first trip with my guardian, I was able to open 4 of the chests and I received the first 4 Journal Fragments. I was missing enough Cypher Fragments to get the last chest though, so I left and placed the Journal Fragments in the bank.

After obtaining enough Molten Cypher Fragments, I put the 4 Journal Fragments in my ranger’s inventory, returned to the Lair and opened the remaining chest. This gave me the first Journal Fragment again!

So was I an idiot for going in there with a different character (even though I had the foresight to take my existing fragments with me)? Or do you have to open all 5 chests in a single visit? Or is this a bug of some kind?

I doubt I’ll be able to collect enough cypher fragments to open ALL of the chests again, especially since nobody seems to be doing the Marionette anymore, so I feel like I’m well and truly screwed.

The fragments should be on the various tables. I believe that they’re there once you’ve gotten them the first time but don’t quote me on that. I didn’t go into her hideout until I had enough to open all of them so I don’t know for certain.

There are 5 different fragments, one per chest. You likely opened the same chest twice.

Yes, you can basically get an infinite number of copies of the journal if you want to.

Each chest type gives a different fragment. If you are still at 4 different fragments then you probably haven’t opened Scarlet’s Lockbox chest yet.

1st – Watchwork Chest
2nd – Aetherblade Chest
3rd – Molten Chest
4th – Toxic Chest
5th – Scarlet’s Lockbox

This is not what happened. Please read my post again. I opened the one remaining chest that I had never previously opened and got fragment #1 again.

Try going back in the instance on your ranger, and look for journal fragments on the tables in the lair. If there aren’t any, you could try guesting onto a larger server around reset time (I’d recommend getting there at least 30 minutes before reset) for marionette; as long as you defeat one chain, you’ll get some of the cypher fragments.

However, you won’t be missing out if you can’t finish the journal; it won’t block your Living Story access or progress if you don’t get all the pieces. You could look up on the wiki to see what the journal says.

I believe they are on the tables and not in the chests.

You think you get them from opening chests are because they are near them, when you click F a few times to open chest, you just also grab the nearby journals.

To avoid accidentally getting duplicated journal, you should target the chest before clicking F.
