Repairing and supporting with event items
After reading this I HAD to log in to comment. TheaEvanda, because what you were doing did not give any credit for the event, it became the rule that NO ONE did it at all, leaving the event to fail more often than it should. Siege engines and barricades got ruined by mortars and no one bothered to repair them, leading to less damage being dealt to enemies at the spawn points and no barriers slowing champs from going into the end portals. I sincerely believe this was not thought through well enough in the design phase of the event. Achievements should have been included to give players more incentive to repair siege & barricades and kill Aetherblade mortars.
So, if ant devs read this, can fixing siege and barricade-like activity be rewarded in future events like this?

Yeah, I started out trying to play support before I realized that if I selflessly helped the team I would get absolutely no rewards.
Now I make sure I use the ballista for a while before I switch to the hammer.
I also will nab a hammer to help out but only after I’ve done some dps via siege or my own skills. I felt good last night about saving 2 ballistas and a barricade a few times over, it felt like I was really helping my lane stop leaks. Happily I read a post about the lack of credit before my first hammer stint.
Sadly this always seems to be a problem with GW2 as a whole. The only thing that gets you credit is killing. Maybe they don’t want people to JUST support (just like how they don’t want the trinity because they don’t want people to JUST heal) but if they don’t want people to feel the need to stick purely to support they shouldn’t limit the hammers.
From my experience, the mobs die where they spawn (snare + immobilize), so what’s the point in keeping the stuff repaired? On my last marionette in overflow for example, which was a perfect run, my lane didn’t even use a golem or barricades and no one stayed in the back. 1 person was on a siege weapon though, the other was never repaired.

I’d say that experience is atypical. I’ve seen plenty of leaks, and those barricades really help with catching up.
Personally, I think the ballistae are useless, but the other siege engines are very handy. The arrow carts are too fragile, though, and it always seems like the golems are grabbed by people that don’t know how to handle them.
Healix, it sounds like you don’t go anywhere in the lane other than the spawn point. Try reading map chat during a fail, or getting in a lane of noobs. Did it ever occur to you that stuff is getting killed quickly specifically BECAUSE of the siege engines and golems? You’ve obviously never played in a lane where those were killed off quickly from noob mistakes, or the barriers disappear from Aetherblade mortars spawning near the top of the lane and champs trot up the land unhindered because no barriers, no golems, and no siege. We should all be as lucky as you.
