“Origins of Madness” strongly hints towards the fact that Scarlet is, indeed, bat <beep> crazy.

If that’s the “explanation” to all she’s been doing then lol. Even more Harley Quinn stuff.

Uhm, it has been made pretty clear from the start that she has gone insane after looking into the Eternal Alchemy.

Why act surprised now?

If you read the forums on a regular basis you would already know that scarlet IS crazy, that has already been said by one of the writers months ago.

The question now is why is she crazy? how did she become crazy? who might be behind this craziness? when exactly did she become crazy? (logic points to her visions within the eternal alchemy)

I’m not expecting much anymore tbh but obviously Anet thought it was important enough to hold on to this information for this long.

What did she see which made her go crazy?

Mursaat.

It’s what happened to Saul. He saw them and went completely over the edge to change his ways entirely.

Whilst I would love to see the Mursaat make a comeback – I feel like Anet would be putting a little too much on their plate to reintroduce the Mursaat at this point in time.

That could be the case, perhaps she looked into the eternal alchemy and saw the Mursaats, a prelude to their return, it would be a good reason for her military and scientific build up. In an interview Anet claimed that one out of every 20~30 thousand people predicted the finale, while everyone else called them crazy. They also stated in the interview that the finale would drastically change Tyria. If you look at those two points, its got to be a dragon, Mursaats, or the like. Which a few have suggested, but most declared unlikely.

maybe she’s crazy a lil bit but what she wanna do is pretty smart and ambitious. IMO she want to create her own race. after all the attempts we already seen I think she will try to acquire chaos magic (see the extractors all across tyria)…like the dragons that can create or alter living forms. I dunno how it will ends but I bet an alder dragon will be involved.

She’s crazy because Mordremoth has invaded her mind and is using her as a vessel now.

Agony is not Spectral Agony. They may function the same way mechnically, but in terms of lore they are very different things. So I don’t think you need to worry about it, if they brought Spectral Agony in then I would expect them to go with GW1 style infusion for it, rather than using Agony Resistance. (Unless it was in FoTM, in which case they’d just use AR)

Even though she is crazy, it still doesn’t why she is doing what she’s doing.
Even insane people (at least in fiction) do things for a reason, even though that reason is not, well, reasonable to a sane person.
I guess we’ll find out her actual motivation in the game.

I’m wanting to believe she is truly kitten crazy, whether by her own doing, because of what she saw, or who’s controlling her (or who she’s aligned with, if anyone) . I’m willing to give a-net this last benefit of the doubt to come through on their hype about it ‘rocking tyria to its core’ and ‘changing the face of tyria’ forever. Maybe I’m just too willing (or hopeful, last ditch effort) to buy into Colin’s hype about it turning into something ‘big’ but the fact its supposed to end leading into the next living story gives me a glimmer of hope.

I’m still leaning towards another Elder Dragon Influence tie-in or Mursaat/Laz

if they arent able to show what her reason is then they fail miserably and the whole ls is a complete failure. heres to hope they at least make it understandable where it hasnt been so far. i think they will change how they present in the next chapter of ls so hopefully it will be better interest to those who have stayed through it all

The best mystery stories will make you go “ooh, how could I have missed that” when everything is revealed in the end. I’m afraid this one won’t.

However, I also realize it’s practically impossible to write such a mystery story in an MMO, because with so many players, one or more of them would crack the mystery before the revelation.

Here’s hoping anet will surprise us, but I’m not holding my breath. They might surprise us with a completely illogical solution, which could not be foretold by anyone, but I will be really impressed if they can come up with a surprise solution that will at the same time seem perfectly logical in the end.

Based on the voice of the narrator over the video i do hope that a ED just comes and noms off scarlets head while she has a grand speech about how she is gonna kill us with explosions (and if its primo or zhai zhai saying IM BACK kittenES!). But ofc a-net are too much of fartypants to do something fun like that.

Doesn’t matter as long as I get all the achievements, which I wish they’d stop adding.

What a “great” retcon this would be considering the amount of times they said Abaddon would never show its face in the future ever again.

True. & Both things are laughably unbelievable & cheesy. I think it’s funny when people say “she’s insane!” because it’s the most 2 dimensional, I’m-so-fun-&-hip “insanity” I’ve ever seen.

Yeah, I’ve said it before, but I think the writers are too in love with her to give us a satisfying end to Scarlet. It’s totally gonna be a totally unsatisfying “she died just like she planned!” thing. Rather than a “everything she thought she controlled turns on her & rips her apart” ending. Anyways, they confirmed that the voice is just a voice. Has nothing to do with anything.

Isn’t that why they gave us infant agony resistance, so that we could prepare to face the Mursaat?

Crazy, though, is a very human concept. It signifies a certain deviation from a social norm. This presupposes that there’s a generally accepted pattern of “normality” amongst the society. Although Sylvari tend to immitate human behaviour (and other things), it is by no means inherent to them. Therefore I’d be careful to judge Scarlet Briar’s sanity according to human standards. For all we know, she saw incredible things. However crazy it seems to us, for a Sylvari she might still be acting quite rationally.

Hmm. I suppose it could also mean the beginning of our answers behind the “madness” or crazy events that have happened thus far. In other words, we are going to learn where the origin or motive behind why Scarlet has caused all of these crazy events (madness.) That was how I originally interpreted it, but is guess we’ll find out when the time comes.
