The Lockbox loot system
“Get something good.” All I’ve gotten is a bunch of greens and a couple rares. Nothing truly worthwhile.
well I am opening at least 2 boxes each event. Which is 2 rares. So that helps with the mystic forge for pre-cursor or even gold to out right buy it.
I agree, however if they want to start using this as a reward giving system they should probably make it more clear for people less interested in the story on where they are.
But I absolutely loved this, the journal, scarlets secret lair and all the story/lore in this update!
Can you keep going back to the chests after they’ve been opened once?

Yep! You can open them as often as you get enough pieces for a completed cipher :>
I had quite a few cyphers first time I went in there. Cha Ching

Guaranteed rare + rare materials and some lucky greens with a chance of being better, plus a shot at the limited recipes (and maybe even mechamoa) isn’t worthwhile? Alrighty, more for me.
I afk for two hours then spend 20 minutes playing to get 2-4 boxes worth of codes, and that’s nothing to scoff at. Even without how much I enjoy pummeling hordes of keyholding mobs with an Omega and my weakness for container-opening, it’s not a bad haul by any means.
Gave in and traded in about half of my codes (maybe 22 total) earlier; got my guaranteed rares/rare alliance items/greens and an extra four rares, two exotics and a recipe. Definitely isn’t a bad feeling when you’re running out of inventory space because there’s a hoard of rare lv80 gear in the way.
But regardless of loot, it’s all made exponentially sweeter than any standard mob/event farming because it involves watching keys pile up in my bags and kicking open a kittenton of chests. Dat booty.
So the new Zealot recipes can drop from the lockboxes in the Lair?

I got one from the Marionette chest
I got the exotic zealot armor smith recipe from Mari’s chest. I got the ascended weapon smith recipe from one of the lockboxes.
Cool, thank you both for the info.
I’m lucky if I get 5 fragments per event, not counting the pity ‘you tried’ box after you fail.
Yay return of more bad rng. :C
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”
Might be more to do with not being able to get hits in fast enough. Between the rush to do damage and the rarity of the drops, it’s tough. Sometimes I more than tag an entire spawn of vet nightmares are still get nothing; sometimes I get four code pieces.

I got one from the Marionette chest
Several people have linked recipes in map after failed events and I’ve gotten recipes from the big chest/lair chests, so I’d assume you can get all exotic and ascended recipes from there (though the big chest has a vastly higher chance to drop them).
Only Vets and higher will drop Code Fragments, I’ve noticed, but it’s not guaranteed. The Champions will always drop a Code Fragment matching its type.
I did get a Zealot recipe from the chest after beating the Marionette, but I was curious to know if it dropped from the Lair chests too. Seems the answer is yes!

I know for fact that the regular menders and reavers drop scarlet/watchwork codes, as well as the toxic, molten and aetherblade normal mobs all dropping their respective ones. It’s just a lot less common because of their tier.
Seems that the typing for the codes matches up to all of the mobs, except that non-champions (including small watchworks upscaled to champ level) will also drop the personal scarlet codes, likely due to their numbers being so high (you already end up with much more watchwork because of this and the guaranteed champs).
No clue what many of you are complaining about.
After four attempts at Mari (one of which succeeded) I had enough fragments to open each lockbox at least once (4 times for the watchwork box).
My result was a many, many blues and greens, several rares, a good deal of Dragonite ore, 1 exotic zerker medium armor piece, Maw of the darned (take that ’kitten filter), and a new zealot recipe.
For the effort I put in, and the fun I had doing it, this was a great trade off.
RNG is RNG. Results may vary.
I actually think we’re getting way too many different key fragments for way too many different chests. All this stuff is cluttering up my inventory.

They do take up a bit of room in storage but once I get a few I enjoy opening the chests and then the go away way too fast.
I got the Moa mini on my third chest. I’ve only opened 5 chests in the lair, and have yet to be in a group that has beat the Marionette.
I agree….the fragment/cypher chests/lock-boxes are a great addition. Thanks, ArenaNet. =)
