What if…

as part of the Origin of Madness live event, there existed a place in Rata Sum designed by Taimi that functioned akin to the X-Men’s Danger Room where players could fight simulated versions of the Wardens?

What if upon failing a Marionette attack, players were directed to Taimi with a mail message such as:

Attention -hero-!

Our defeat in Lornar’s Pass was inexcusable but understandable considering the number of bookahs present. I have analyzed our performance against Scarlet’s Wardens and developed a simulation room that we can use to refine our strategy to repel the next invasion.

Meet me in Rata Sum at your earliest convenience.

Excelsior!

Taimi

Once the player enters Rata Sum, they will be directed to Taimi’s practice room where they can fight each Warden until they are comfortable with the encounter. To further encourage participation, it could be tied to an accomplishment that increments the meta.

Tl;dr version: with the trend of group events that push the envelope of the average player’s skill but ties an entire server’s performance to the lowest achieving members, a place where players can bone up on the mechanics of the event should possibly be considered as an essential component of future events following this design. I included my example to show that such practice rooms could be seamlessly tied into the fiction of the event and game world.

A simpler way to do it would be to have veteran versions of the wardens spawn as part of an event while waiting for the marionette or just nearby to that area.

I like this idea, I thought about something similar, but I think it would be better to have such areas in the same zone as the event. That way it would help to kill time for those waiting for the next try and better players could offer help for unexperienced players without having to wait if someone just shows up in Rata Sum or wherever such a training room is located.

Like the idea. To make it easier for the content team and more challenging for players, just don’t make NPCs spill out instructions; people should read the usual mob description and learn the mechanics themselves.

20 level 80s and counting.

Yes please! Every boss in the game should be available to fight in Taimi’s practice room.

Have a grizzled veteran in a wheelchair throwing wrenches.

“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a warden.”

I’d like something like that too…

Actually reminds me of something they have in The Secret World… basically, before you can enter nightmare dungeons (the end game dungeons, at least when I played) you first have to do the gatekeeper, that is basically a solo fight that’s supposed to see if you’re ready (and geared enough, gear does matter there) to tackle them.

Since it’s a trinity game, you have to select one of the tests (tanking, DPS, healing), if you pick the tank one, then several NPCs appear to DPS it, and you need to keep the gatekeeper attention on you (including a point where he drops aggro and an overeager NPC attacks early so you have to get him back before the gatekeeper kills it), on the DPS one he does different attacks including AoE circles everywhere you have to avoid and dodge while keeping at all times a good amount of DPS on him, and on the healing one several NPCs appear that he attacks and you have to keep them alive long enough for them to kill the gatekeeper (including a stubborn NPC that doesn’t move out of the fire). Let one of the NPCs die on the tanking or healing tests, or stop doing enough damage for too long on the DPS one, and you fail and have to try again until you succeed one and unlock the nightmare difficulty mode.

Maybe something like that (lorewise it could be something like the watchwork illusions on top of a golem), and also as a way to let you revisit past boss fights.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

ehhh i think they should have general training rooms, but not specific to bosses and encounters, i think you should have to learn and do that in the events.

some things that could get training room of various difficulties are

Avoiding attacks (dodge, moving blocks etc)
Performing combos
CC use and CC breaks
supporting group
