I was only ever addressing the hypothetical solutions to balancing Tier 2. Bear in mind, even if TC gets to T1, whoever gets bumped down will cause the same problem in T2.

What remains true is that the least radical, most logical course of action for balancing T2 is for TC to disperse, that was all I was saying.

The competitive 6 servers is hopelessly optimistic, I’m afraid. What is in the realm of possibility is further detaching Tier 1 from Tier 2 and below by not having a “1.5” server. It will get stale for T1, but the system will favour gluing BG/JQ/SoR together, and keeping Tier 2/3 together. On the slim chance someone goes into T1, you’ll have a blowout for a week. But it’ll overall be more balanced than the 5 weeks of steamrolling T2 in TC’s current state.

You say it is all Anet’s fault, yet in your signature you show how your guild originated on SBI, then moved to Kaineng and are now on TC. It would appear your guild jumps ship when a server starts to implode (as a result of exactly what your guild is doing). Ironic..

No, SoS does not have the numbers. I just transferred off SoR back to SoS to avoid the clusterkitten of skill lag from the mass zergs and TC has a more comparable wvw population to T1, not SoS. SoS used to have the population/coverage to match TC, but not in many months.

What I’ve seen tonight says otherwise. SoS outnumbered us at least 2v1 and they even wiped us one solely based of the shear amount of people. But they still get smashed. Why? Well, my quoted post answers that.
TC has won many outnumbered fights because numbers don’t win a war.
1 thief can fight 5 people if the thief knows their class, I’ve done this plenty.
Never rely on numbers, rely on tactics and knowing what class can do what.
That’s everyone’s problem. You make a class get it to 80 and expect it to win. Yet, you don’t take the time to sit there and break it down past “I swing sword you die”

TC has won many outnumbered fights because numbers don’t win a war???

Who has TC beaten with a larger wvw population? Name one server. You got stomped by SoR which is the only server TC has faced with a larger population. In fact, WvW matchup history shows that TC was ranked 6th while SoS was 1st. TC’s “rise to power” was solely based on absorbing guilds just as the “downfall” of SoS was due to guilds transferring off. (Notably, [TSym] to SoR).

You really don’t know anything about TC do you? Before this new match up system TC was known for being able to take down larger groups and their skill in open field fighting. FA, DB, KN, and yes even BG (though that was rare) are all prime examples of servers that TC has worked hard to over come. There’s a reason why “TC is never happy unless they’re red” is a saying. We’re used to being the under dog. It’s kind of weird being the top.

Also saying that TC is only here because we absorbed guilds is insulting. I can list on one hand our NA wvw guilds and guess what? They’ve been the same guilds for as long as I’ve been on the server (with the exception of RE), and I’ve been on this server a very long time.

No offense but as a small man guild the only thing i saw from TC was hiding in keeps until they outnumbered us 3 to 1 and even then they were hesitant to come out.

We at least brought the fight vs 3x our numbers quite often, outmanned but not outgunned.

SOS is doing good at the moment. Their SEA time presence is awesome.

First of all, I’m on BG. Secondly, no matter where the other two servers transfer TC will still be the Tier 1.5 server steamrolling T2. That’s the problem here.

It can’t be avoided by transferring lower. The only solution is to buff Tier 2 to be competitive (and therefore glue the top 6), or disperse TC. The latter is far easier.

1) There is no longer any tier 2. Any server have a chance to face anyone. So your point was invalid.
2) Tier 1 or 2 servers (like BG) will still roll over any tier 3 or below servers. This problem isn’t from TC alone. This week’s problem can very well be repeated by any tier 1 or 2 server. So your point was invalid.
3) TC is very closely matched with DB, specially now that DB got more guilds. FA is falling behind because they lost a few guilds, which has nothing to do with TC. So your point is invalid.

You guys were on the edge of transferring out of Maguuma remember? The only thing that “saved” Maguuma from collapsing was that well timed patch update. Although I am sure you guys are reconsidering right now. :P

Totally legitimate strategy. (The rest of this post is not aimed at you, sir.)

I’m actually surprised I don’t see people doing this more often to be honest. I hated when it was done to TC in the early days of yesterwheneveritwasdonetouslast but it is a completely legitimate strategy. The only draw back is, whenever BG was done taking our crap from us, they’d just take everything that the other server took from us too.

I miss running with Zud, I haven’t seen him in ages. His hit and run tactics were absolutely amazing when we were outmatched whether due to numbers, skill, or both. A lot of commanders would kill supplies by knocking out the supply camps then run off and do whatever, but not Zud. That little Asura had a hunchback from carrying around so much siege.

He would cause so much confusion so quick and I used to imagine the other server’s watching the map and just absolutely flipping out when their blue blips started flickering green. It didn’t matter if we had a full zerg or ten people. He always made it work.

The man knew how to adapt to a situation, knew which towers to take, when to take them, and where to apply the pressure.

Someone said it earlier in this thread. This is a learning experience. We had a phase where we had to learn to adapt and adjust.

Some excuses are legitimate. Some aren’t. My friend spent all night telling me she couldn’t believe we kept winning so many engagements when we were completely outnumbered, but our commanders are amazing, and the players on our server are amazing. Don’t insult them and insult the rest of us by implying the only reason we are winning is because of numbers.

Let’s keep bad blood out of this thread and focus on the greatness that is all of our servers and not drag down the community.

When we started to get serious about defending supply lines, you wiped the siege in Vale twice, and we had to commit more and more people to be successful. And I never saw /laughs or other silliness. NOVA knows how to play WvW and knows how to bring it. Well done.

The idea is fine. Having no limiters and not having the score reflect the purpose of taking points off higher ranks servers is the problem. And that all falls with Anet.

If TC started this week with 0 points, Maguuma 100k, SoS 200k (i.e. handicapping the servers based on their expected performance) then maybe some people might care to play a bit more. But its still a horribly uneven matchup.

At this point the system seems worse than WULD…..

So Saturday morning comes for me to check the ofc forums and see who mag is going to whine about this week, see this match up, I lol’d and started reading. All of a sudden i see a really good idea that would just destroy WvW on lower pop servers even more. Can you imagine how disheartened a server would be to see a monumental lead they were given just melt away. Or that same server actually managing to win and then get NO satisfaction from the win cause they were given a handicap.

This games entire WvW population needs to be redone. Anet literally did WvW backwards. Think about this for a second. If they opened up with free transfers and RNG matches I think they could have transitioned to the stable matches and paid transfers with a more accurate rank/tier system.

Or think about it like war, why did the Germans in WW2, And Napoleon earlier try to conquer europe before pushing into Russia. Why do all the Mideastern countries, who hate each other like Iran,Syria,Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc.. all show a united front against the US.

It is about winning. anything less is playing for second. If both weaker teams focus the stronger teams border land and both push north, instead of vulturing off the south mags, the defending server will have to make a choice. What do they lose. Then later when they got to recap the other location they lost the one they decide to keep is vulnerable.

This is basic stuff here.

The Strongest Server in a Tier will take whatever they can hold from the other two opponents. They might focus the Middle Server if the scores are close or the Middle Server has a Coverage Period where they are dominant.

The Middle Server will also take whatever they can hold from the other two Servers, which (since they aren’t as strong as the dominant Server) means mostly taking and holding objectives from the Weakest Server. They might focus the Strongest Server if the scores are close.

The Weakest Server will try to take and hold whatever it can which (outside of especially close matches) isn’t much. They might focus the Middle Server if the scores are close.

There is rarely ever a reason for the Weakest Server to target and draw the attention of the Strongest Server, meaning that the chances of the Strongest Server in a match ever truly facing a sustained 2v1 are very small.

It can happen in small, localized, isolated incidents but with the way Scores and Ratings are calculated it just doesn’t make sense for a sustained one to occur…

and that is a problem.

The scoring system is broken and Rating mostly only represents Coverage not Skill. There are a number of different approaches ANet can take but they do have to do something because what we have right now isn’t working.

@ All the whiny SoS posts, what exactly do we want? To win by pvdooring every week by large margins or open field fights? In tier4 there were hardly any fights, leave alone open field fights. We would just jump from keep/tower to another to avoid any confrontations and pvdoor for points. It’s not like we are getting steamrolled by 100k points by both other two servers in this matchup. SoS is top of tier 3 material, so we can only expect to get matched up against a tier2(TC) and a tier3(Mag) server. I’m very sorry to say it, but SoS is a fickle server. If we are not winning by 100k points in a tier, we lose by 100k points week after week until we drop a tier and are then matched by lower tier servers which we can win without much effort or skill but just purely by a relatively very large militia. Maguma is actually in rating, top of tier 3, and we are ahead at the moment, so the match isn’t completely lopsided.

I’m sure there’s a middle ground somewhere that doesn’t involve us stompin 100k or losing 100k. Maybe an actual T3 matchup or something, who knows.

Metaphorically ofcourse. My point was, if SoS isn’t winning with a clear lead, people just don’t show up in WvW.

You’ve absolutely got a point. we were bored with pvdoor before, and we’re not happy getting stomped round the clock. I think the real issue is that we’ve been matched up with servers with far more coverage 5 weeks out of 5 (TC for 4 of those). Maybe it’d be nice if we got a match where we at least have a good shot at winning. Nobody wants to just roll over the top of lower ranked servers (well, some might), we just want an even matchup occasionally.

Looks less likely to happen anytime soon given we’re trending up to rank6 on MOS. Hopefully that’ll even itself out in a day or two though.

My latest suggestion to ANet to try to improve WvW/Matches:
A Whole New Format for WvW

I think there are things in there that everybody from all 3 Servers would enjoy.
(Please leave comments/suggestions in that thread and especially “+1” it if you like it)

Why is #1 so important? TC brings a lot of skill to every match. I’d rather settle for #2 and have a way more enjoyable match. SoS, please play for the fights and not ppt.

It’d be nice to have real match ups again. Getting tired of fair weathers coming out in a zerg and giving my server a bad name of running from field fights. KH thrives on field fights and hates zerging, but it’s hard to find fights when zergs steal the life from our opponents and they stop showing up.

It’d be nice to have real match ups again. Getting tired of fair weathers coming out in a zerg and giving my server a bad name of running from field fights. KH thrives on field fights and hates zerging, but it’s hard to find fights when zergs steal the life from our opponents and they stop showing up.

It was nice to run into KH being split off from the CERN/TSL/PINK/whatever the hell zergs all night tonight. Props for not going full blob.

Because drp and PYRO weren’t running a big blob, oh wait….
