for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Ah, that’s astute of you.
A lot of us on SBI are usually pugs just looking for fun, so it’s only natural we pop around in our pve gear. I’d imagine a lot are just running to the zerg, lol.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
There are plenty of notable exceptions to that norm though.
:/ well thats weird… all ive been experiencing from 1v1 with kain/sbi is them running to camp guards or calling for help when they start losing. One time i was even lucky to be the most dangerous threat to kain. some random guardian and me were taking a camp, it started off as a 2v2 when one of the kains died….then it became 30 v 2. Almost got the guardian to hold my beer while i toke on the 30 but atlas they made me spill it and i died
Ok well you can choose to be backhanded about it as I often see with these types of discussions, but really no one person can claim an entire server is “bad” with any type of empirical certainty. All servers are probably mostly the same in terms of skill with the varying factor of population. But confirmation bias is a helluva drug I guess.
DH has a lot of terribad commanders. I just hope they are learning from their mistakes.
Its not just commanders.
As a solo roamer, I really have to say that on an aggregate level, DH players are probably the absolute least skilled players I have ever come across from any server by no small margin. Between all the servers that SBI has faced, DH really stands out as being the absolute worst in terms of player skill. I dare to say, DH players are possibly even worse than SBI players, most of whom I have absolutely zero respect for (in terms of player skill.)
uhh, last time i checked, we were up 30k. regardless of how you qualify skill, the fact that as a server we can dominate the two of you with a 30k lead is in itself a testament to how well we work together as a server in wvw.
yes, we have lots of commanders, we have some who are well known, some not so well known. and yes, there was a huge altercation in our own BL between commanders from different guilds on the night of reset. but eventually we moved passed it and (see previous paragraph) we are up 30k.
^Fighting words, lol.
Let’s take a step back a little bit because playing a videogame is NOT a skill to begin with. Typing as part of your real life profession is. Now if we are comparing words per minute in GW2 chat, feel free to brag about your words/minute skill.
Telling me that you have more skill in a videogame is humorous. Thanks for the laugh. Have a good day.

Examples of SKILL
Poker is a game of luck and skill.
The work is difficult and requires a lot of skill.
Cooking is a useful skill.
He has excellent social skills.
Origin of SKILL
Middle English skil, from Old Norse, distinction, knowledge; probably akin to Old English scylian to separate, sciell shell — more at shell
First Known Use: 13th century
finger dexterity and hand eye coordination are the key skills one must most likely possess in order to competently play a video game. being able to identify what is happening (is about to happen) on your screen and reacting with an appropriate response, be it a counter/block/evade/interrupt/CC/kite/etc. is a skill as well.
so, tell me again how, based on this definition, playing a game (video game or otherwise) does not take some amount of skill(s).
Don’t kid yourself, only mesmers and thieves can have skills.
I have a question for any of you non-darkhaveners:
Can you hear my horn when I play music around you when you are dead?
You might have noticed an Asuran Engineer from [Abys] running around playing “Taps” to you as you lie dead at my feet, in which I /salute you after I am done.
I am just curious if you can hear the sweet tones of my trumpet as I play a final ballad to send you on your way?
Or are my magical melodies falling on deaf ears?
/salute

Fine, ok…I offended a fellow Darkhavener somehow while defending our server against the other servers poking fun at us…so be it…I will revert it to “useful skill”, wherein usefulness of the skill is relative and pretty much opinion-based. And everything I’ve expressed so far is in fact my opinion.
It is my opinion that playing a videogame is a use-LESS skill and not worth bragging about. A person bragging about skill in a videogame holds no meaning or value in my mind.
I am able to manipulate light with lenses to see the microscopic structures of the eyes, adnexa, and retina and I can use that information to diagnose a disease or lack there of. That, to me, is a useful skill. And I can actually brag about that. Now, I also play GW2, but you won’t ever see me bragging about my videogame skills since you already know I don’t consider it so. That’s just me though and that is also my opinion on this topic of video game skills. And I say that none of us have videogame skills. I clearly failed at deflating some nerd-rage directed at us by adding more to a fellow DHer.
If you are still offended, I would like you to redirect your energy towards those that say Darkhaven players, in general, have no skill. They are talking about you in their generalized blanket statement about the server we share.
I also don’t care that we have a ~30k lead…“skill” did not do that. Coverage did. And winning a week’s WvWvW match-up is ultimately inconsequential in the grand scheme of things and life in general.

Its just a game, seriously who cares? believing that anything that you do in a virtual reality somehow matters is beyond my comprehension. It is one of the few escapes I have to enjoy in my real life so I dont spend it acting like an elitist or entitled jerk, I play it to have fun. If I suck, so be it, I really couldnt care less and I certainly couldnt care less if you dont respect me because my “individual skill” somehow makes me inferior to you. Grow up, Seriously.
I’ve been corpse jumped and /laugh(ed) at by both stormbluff and kaineng players after players killed me even when I bow or salute after I’ve won a fight. Its called decency and realising the avatar I just fought is a real person and not resorting to such childish and immature behavior.
On a positive note, My thief’s name is Ishi Jo on darkhaven, If you’re reading this..to the mesmers I fought outside of blue vale and west garrison today (07/17) thank you so much for those fights, they were easily 2 of the best fights I’ve had.

Try hards are always going to be try hards.
Personally I find it hilarious when people get super cereal over a game.

How to be better:
1. Play d/p thief with a permastealth build.
2. Chase down solo uplevels and a staff ele. Make a video.
3. Ridicule an entire server for being baddies. Bonus points for pretending to be polite in an effort to drive your insult HOME.
You can thank me later.

This match up has been super annoying for me. Nobody (that ive run into)on SBI/Kain wants to fight unless its 1x 5+. I’ve never seen people turn around and run so quickly. Cmon! It’s not like you get some serious penalty if you die kitten . If anyone wants a duel or something 2v2 idc msg me, im tired of chasing these “roamers” all over the map.

Not offended. I’m just arguing semantics. In numerous studies it has been shown that console gaming (not keyboard gaming) actually benefits doctors in terms of finger dexterity and hand eye coordination. Puzzle games have cognitive benefits as well.
I myself can agree with some points of your opinions that video gaming is a less use-full skill in real world applications.

If anyone wants a duel or something 2v2 idc msg me, im tired of chasing these “roamers” all over the map.
It’s really too bad there’s no inner-server wvw duel system, I’d love to fight you for a while.
Oh, and I’ll make the same offer he did. I’m happy to get a match going any time, as long as my guild isn’t busy.

Maybe you should join a guild that doesn’t run around in 30-50 man groups. If you are a part of a large guild we always assume the large guild is somewhere nearby, engaging in a duel with that person doesn’t make sense.
lol worried about having a duel because they are afraid opponent is gonna call 30-40 people to kill 1 person merely by guild tag XD.
noooow i see the point of your whole buddy system <3 more afraid of death then the possibility of glory
If it didn’t happen multiple times this week then I wouldn’t be worried about it.
So a solo roamer can be annoyed about not finding 1v1s without there being 5+ to roll them over but small groups can’t be annoyed that a known zerging guild might be around the corner to, you know, roll them over? Ok. It is literally the same idea. Even more ridiculous is being annoyed when you can’t find a solo roamer in WvW but that’s a different argument I guess.
There are plenty of 5-10 man groups in all of gw2 that can take on 2-3 times their numbers.
That’s not what I was talking about. There is a gap in logic explaining one situation but not the other. I’m sure there are plenty of solo-ers that can take out 2-3x themselves, too.

I rep SXY when im roaming or Yo lo, so thats a terribad excuse. Although sometimes that’s not the case if i forget to change tags. But it doesnt matter what tag is run most encounters are me chasing ppl like benny hill sketches its just sad.

i roam solo/duo or up to 5. In almost any ocassion when equal numbers or even close they leave without even engaging. Only when they are 2 steps from a tower, keep, or a pack of guards to they attack, and even then its timid. IDK, maybe im just in the wrong places? I’m not complaining about being zerged.. it happens when you play small man, and usually i can get out of the situation. It just been an underwhelming exp when i engage another small team with mine or solo or even 2v1 they just book it. W/e, tomorrow is a new match up. DR where art thou?!
Nah I get it, sometimes you just have those stretch of days where you can’t find anything good and you just get zerged non stop or no one wants to stop and fight on their way to an objective. Unfortunately all matchups are very much YMMV in terms of quality for a variety of reasons. My guild has had no problems finding other small fights this week not running more than 6 in a night. I’ve had some really great 1v1s too from DH and SBI, but even then I’d say more than half of them have had someone jump in on the fight and upset the balance, and another good percentage have just run from engagement altogether. It’s just what WvW is to me though so it’s whatever. Overall though it was an exceptionally good roaming week for me.
ETA: and I apologize for narrowly reading your initial post.
Does anyone else see the irony in thieves and mesmers complaining about other players running from a fight?
No. If you run away because you’re just trying to catch up to your group, fine. If you run away because you’re a roamer who doesn’t want to fight a mesmer, that’s just silly.
Personally, I’m an objective-based tunnel-vision solo-roamer…and I don’t attack a person on my route to my next objective unless they attack me first…I always let them get 1st hit in. Heck, I’ve died to several groups protecting a Pack Dolyak wherein I don’t even attack the defenders…I die trying to just kill the dolyak, haha! I don’t care about dying anyway.
The only times I really go for 1st hit on an invader is when I haven’t completed the “Kill 10 invaders” daily. These are also the only times uplevels are kill-on-sight when I roam. Once I get my 10 kills for daily, I revert back to the former philosophy of next-objective-tunnel-vision, hehe.
However, occasionally, I will fail to resist my urge to troll people…which happens sometimes. And more often, it is to keep several people frustrated and busy trying to catch me while my server is attacking something important. Aka: if you see me trolling, it’s a very good idea to watch your map.

Thanks to all the Kaineng and DH that let us jump in that stupid JP in peace though I apologize if an SBI guardian accidentally took a few swings at you as it was making me kinda dizzy and disoriented. (Stupid auto target)

Same here, I am a tunnel visioned objective focused roamer. I am the most active WvW player of my guild and as such, I am usually roaming solo or in PUGs of 4-5 max. To be honest, I have not seen too many DH guys solo roam though I know they’re out there somewhere (mostly necros from what I’ve seen), but SBI does seem to have lots of warriors that like to roam so that’s always fun
I don’t really care about dying in-game mostly cause “it’s a game” but I do find it annoying when i’m trying to cap a camp and get rolled by a group of 5 or so roamers + the NPCs and they /laugh or /dance on me for not being able to get away
Overall, what I’ve enjoyed most about this match-up is the abundance of rangers, engis and warriors that are either roaming solo or in small groups. I was getting tired of the excess Thieves and Mesmers from previous matches. It’s been a fun week and i will surely miss this match-up.
Alright, not sure how this works out, but SBI is on some crazy stuff tonight. First I was defending Aldons, as SBI ranger pets rushed in through a full gate. Next is how they magically appeared on the 3rd floor of SM, without there being any openings at SM inner. I saw the warrior first, and thought it a little strange, I followed him to the main floor where I found an entire zerg. That group got wiped, and I ran back to the third floor of SM, and guess what I found… SBI running from third floor down to the lord again! Only this time, there were a lot more magically dropping from the ceiling. Not sure how SBI did it, but I know they didn’t come in through any gates. Who knows maybe they have some special flying shoes.

Bro. PD says Hi.
To anyone we murked tonight. My sincerest apologies. Our chat was filled with giggles and errmergerd OP!!! lol. All that said, 2 to win.
I don’t know how many people are still online, but since it’s Thursday, I will be idling at the DH (green) windmill for a while. Fight club! Bring your friends!
Now you start fight club. I just went to bed. Remember the secret acceptable hack, 2 to win!
Base jumping anyone? This is your guild on drugs!
The kites, they do nothing!
Anyways, looks like Kaineng is making a push right now. They have most of EB.
We’re up by 1600 points with about 11 hours to go!
Pretty pumped to come in second…. We’ve been 3rd for the last 5 matchups.
SBI. The smoldering corpse that once was a giant. Being on a lowish server would be ok as long as more people want to strive to become better. There are a few good ones. The attitude can be weak at times. Oh you want meeee to spend shinies on siege?
Anyway,
grats Mr Kaineng dude.
The only server to be hit harder then us was HoD, whom most I believe transferred to SoS and were an intricate cog in that. Seems HoD lost all their guilds and most of their pug militia, We lost all of our guilds and some of our pug militia. Until we get an established WvW guild playing here, its going to be more of the same. I just dont want to fall too far, the lower tier servers will be kind of boring, I love being able to log on prime time and farm peoples faces ;/
The roaming SBI Warrior near SM earlier this morning has my eternal respect…I hate fighting hammer builds But I gotta admit they’re the coolest.
I have to concur with Swindler on this one…ive never seen so much running and porting from a fight in my life. In the mornings i always do some roaming by myself before heading into the office. and in this match up i either get the stealth thief who runs away after he finds out he cant kill me with underhanded tatics. or the ones that see me from 1000 units out and run for a guard or spawn.
Im really looking forward to fighting Ebay …despite the fact we have a pve event coming up and people will vacate the borderlands. it will be good times for those of us who stay in and fight.
Jaxx.
Does anyone else see the irony in thieves and mesmers complaining about other players running from a fight?
Im an engi, I experience the same situations :/.
Q_Q death to this pve event that will rob our players
DH has a lot of terribad commanders. I just hope they are learning from their mistakes.
Its not just commanders.
As a solo roamer, I really have to say that on an aggregate level, DH players are probably the absolute least skilled players I have ever come across from any server by no small margin. Between all the servers that SBI has faced, DH really stands out as being the absolute worst in terms of player skill. I dare to say, DH players are possibly even worse than SBI players, most of whom I have absolutely zero respect for (in terms of player skill.)
I am not entirely sure if you intended for this to sound as elitism, but it certainly reeks of it. Essentially what you’re doing is taking what will undoubtedly be an extremely small sample size and surmising that the entire DH server is terrible based on your anecdotal evidence. Surely you can see why that entire notion is flawed? If not….then perhaps valuing your intelligence more than your gaming ability would be more beneficial for your future.
At the end of the day most players are going to have an average ‘skillset’. This is after all the definition of average. You have bad and outstanding on the other ends of the spectrum. From the viewpoint of the top 1% of the game, average may indeed look terrible, but a little perspective isn’t difficult to achieve.
