a lot of the time, it’s actually not hyperbole.

the problem is, players only play as hard as they have to to get the rewards they want. when you have a population advantage, the quality of gameplay from the average player goes down. against lower-population opponents, you simply don’t have to try as hard to win. if you have timezone coverage sufficient to carry you, the natural tendency is to let them.

EBay is just as prone to this problem as any other server — playing against BP and AR for so many weeks before matchup randomization went in was bad for us — we played worse because we didn’t have to work to win. likewise, playing against KN on their way up the ranks was great for us, because it showed us how much work we needed to do to improve.

we’ve seen what happens ourselves when it’s too easy, so we recognize it when we see it in others (or at least, when we see something that looks vaguely like it). I think part of the problem is that when we face servers with more population (or better coverage) their better players take a break, so we end up seeing proportionally a lot more of their scrubs and fairweathers. I know that I play a lot less when it’s an easy match for us (although I’m not claiming to be one of our better players).

I wouldn’t guess that JQ (or any T1 server) suffers from this problem, because they mostly just play each other and I imagine the competition for the #1 ranking is fierce. but in the lower tiers where servers regularly find themselves playing against much lower numbers, I would expect to see a lot more of this “lazy” style of play.

Bah, we know you guys aren’t zerging as much as our last matchup. It’s actually made for some pleasant fights really and it’s nice to see DB say “forget PPT, let’s have some fun”.

Really grown from the Tier 3 days where NA would hide in towers and let NNK rack up all their points.

A few more NA guilds on SoS and I think we could have more awesome fights in our future.

agreed. I hope some of TC/DB guilds get bored & move to FA/Mag/EB (Oceanic/SEA) / SoS (NA) servers so we have two tiers of fun servers. There will never be a T2 lock like T1 cuz ratings are so close between T2/T3 and this type of matchup will happen alot especially if the league is 12 servers each…

PS: NS/FTF thanks for the couple hours of fun on SoS.

at least TC should destack since they fail at T1 and roflstomp every T2 server..

Most humorous part of the night on SoS. EhmBay breaks into Garrison. I say “we better clear this up quick, if NS figures out what’s going they’ll be in here right away”. We wipe the EhmBays (not much of a fight in you guys right now) and rush to the open door and see NS making for the doors and we literally close it in their faces.

Speaking of which, you’re pretty classy NS. Thanks for keeping the fights in the open and not just going for the caps and stuff.

This is something I’ve seen lacking against SoS and EB. Even when numbers are even or you guys have a clear numbers advantage there’s too much turtling. Running in keeps/towers and building defensive siege. Not enough open field imo, which made this week super boring.
