These kind of posts always make me smile. Heaven forbid we do something that is effective in helping us to win or defeat our opponents! Yes, we should change our strategy now that you have enlightened us to the ways of WvW.

He never said it didn’t work or was not effective. He said it was boring lol. Which is a completely legitimate complaint.

Our battle for Bay and Garri this morning was a great example. Great job on your guys part keeping us out of there for as long as possible. In our long history together though, we’ve learned a few ploys to get you to peek out from your little hidey holes. =P

Funny, I saw no more than one SBI all morning in my five hours on between 7am and 12pm… and that was just one Human thief General who as far as I could tell wasn’t really accomplishing much. He just “poofed” here and there all about our BL while BP was on a full scale rampage in our southern region… okay, more like a large scale camping trip than a rampage per se…

I figured at first glance he was just PK’ing. Was later expecting to get ganked when he was near and I was at north camp alone hammering away to build us some golem fodder for another Garri kamikaze run. Nope… just fluttered about, in and out of sight.

I was rather perplexed.

Really have grown found of EB, very good server, very balanced for us. CD was overpowering for us, but aside from that they were a class act. BP, however, I personally did not miss at all. Time after time of running to siege and running away from engagements. I know, you play for points and siege. Still makes for a boring match. Will be interesting to see who falls where after the weekend, I know we have just recently lost another guild and quite a few players, how about BP? Still same population pretty much?

What keeps and towers? Besides, outmanned was nigh constant. Get out there, take advantage of “murder mode” and stock up on loot. You literally have nothing else to lose at that point lol.

Yes, defending and upgrading can be boring. Certainly more so than riding the karma train zerg around eternal all day. But, my point is that this particular part of the game is exactly about taking objectives with siege and defending them. That’s why you get points for it and not for running over players in the giant zergball. If you think it is boring, go spvp or run temples.

O wow we got to fight BP again.

1st night back and I watched a buncha BP sit on tower walls. When they weren’t on the walls they were corpses.

It’s too bad Anet disagrees with you. You should be playing spvp, your railing against people playing this part of the game the way it was designed to be played and then calling them bad is just silly.

If my two options were 1) roaming around getting stomped by a zergball, or 2) getting to the safety of a tower with siege…
I would definitely choose to hide in my tower with siege.

Everyone plays differently and has fun doing different things.
I don’t hold it against anyone hiding in towers when zergballs are going by, I do the same thing.
The purpose of any game is to win and hopefully have fun doing it. So I never understand why people want WvW to be sPvP.
Open field fights really accomplish nothing other than maybe a bit of demoralizing. 3v4’s, 8v6’s, 2v2’s… who cares really. It’s about taking points, defending your own points as good as possible, denying the enemy supply and keeping their towers paper.
There is no solo skill in WvW besides the commanders ability to make smart decisions and control the masses. It’s a numbers game. 1 person’s ability to 1v1 or a small group’s ability to 4v4 in the open is beyond pointless and meaningless in the WvW setting.
The best 4v4’ers could be on Anvil Rock for all we know… and it would have zero impact on how well your server does in WvW. So sPvP’ers need to put their kittens away and realize almost nobody cares about their open field ‘prowess’ in WvW because it doesn’t matter. Most WvW’ers are absolutely terrible at PvP, me included, so it’s no grand accomplishment to kill almost anyone in WvW if you’re decently good at sPvP.

If I played on EB or BP this week, I’d probably hide in towers as well to avoid the SBI Bannok Pain Train

Last time I checked there were no Anet rules and guidelines of how WvW has to be played lol. Yes they designed siege and walls and PPT, and we understand that’s what BP loves focusing on, but roaming, open field fights and small man play is also an aspect of WvW.

Why would you suggest Spvp? That’s a whole different ballgame. You can’t get the same excitement there like you would from roaming in WvW.

It’s just something BP isn’t too good at and you guys were never known for it outside of some old SOUL groups. EDGE ganking uplevels doesn’t count :] Although ZERG seems to be bringing it back, they have a long way to go.

BP has gotten a little better at playing for PPT though compared to our matchups back then. Coordination between their guilds has gotten better, and their response time definitely got better, and that’s probably best shown through their server wide TS. But playing for score ultimately comes down to who has the best coverage, which really is no fun. Each has it’s own merits though.

Basically, this ^^^ lol. No one wants WvW to be Spvp.

Most roamers and small man players have FUN in small group fights where skill comes into play a lot more. You have to know when to time your abilities, what to do to survive and avoid burst and being focused. You have to know whats the best build and gear for each situation and group comp. You have to know positioning probably most of all.

And that is compounded even more so in WvW because you never really know what you’re going to run into, how many people, what builds they are running, what gear they are using, etc.

Bettering yourself as a player and as a team is supremely satisfying and since we are playing a video game, it’s even quite fun. That is the point.

Zerglings are bad though. Aside from small group/solo roaming to flip camps, I’ve been having fun baiting the people out of zergs to see who overextends looking for an easy kill.

When I called them boring it had nothing to do with perspective. They’ve even agreed in this thread that they’re boring. They are boring to fight, period.

There was one Ebay guy, I guess he was a warrior or guardian, one of the two. Anyway, in last weeks matchup he was trying to take SBI’s N camp. There were a few of us trying to bring him down. He killed me, of course I die lots. So, I wp back and run into N camp again. Now there are 3 CD players trying to kill him. So I get on the ballista and target the CD guys, cuz I am a horrible WvW player. I lack the co-ordination it takes to play against other people. My point is, I truly commend this Warrior/Guardian for his ability to take on so many ppl at one time. So Kudos to you Ebay player, and if you read this you know who you are. Oh and I am getting better at using siege weapons. OH and I killed a thief today in BP BL one on one. Finally I found someone who plays WvW worse than me. Yay ME. :P

WFD can pull pretty big numbers at times – we are a large guild after all. Our primary commander is well known and when the guild is running with him its common for pugs to gravitate to him and we end up with a pretty large army. I would agree that WFD is known for doing a lot strategically with limited manpower and resources, in fact I rarely see that, because its not really our focus.

From my perspective WFD is focused primarily on field tactics and enjoys engaging the enemy in the open. That’s not to say we don’t cap camps/tower/keeps, because we do, but we aren’t one to stick around, upgrade it, run yaks, build siege, etc. We like to find enemy zergs to decimate. If you watch the video that should be pretty obvious.

Even so we aren’t really hardcore WvW guild. We don’t do armor checks, require players to run specific builds, or specify our group’s composition (meaning certain numbers of each class). So yea, you might find the smaller skill groups are able to do more with less, but that wasn’t really the point of the post.

The point I was making is that people are pretty full of kitten. Personally, I think people just like to throw criticism at the things they hate (usually when they get stomped, or are losing) to try and make their opponent change their behaviors in order to win praise in the forums. It like, if you criticize us enough for being too strategic and focused on points then maybe we’ll feel like we can earn your praise and respect if we stop and just roam around aimlessly.

I never said anything about not playing wvw the way it’s intended; that’s why I havoc squad, to disrupt your supply flow so the rest of my server can do their thing. What I was saying is that the people I encounter open field from BP crumble almost every time.

Also Amins and Sil, what’re your playtimes? Don’t think I’ve come across either of you yet in wvw lol. =(

Good point in your last paragraph, the forums are always and will always be kitteny lol.

I suggested that BP post a SOUL video instead because that would be exactly what SBI was asking for. That would have definitely proven you fight in open field and don’t run away compared to the WFD video which was pretty much “omg why are they running away from our 50+ blob? time to spam emotes!”

There’s nothing wrong with picking off yaks, camp flipping or even zerg baiting. The trouble is judging the opponents skill when doing so.

Quite often people who tout small/solo roaming as the true way to judge skill are running builds set up for small fights and working with a group that has been formed for small fights and has spent a good amount of time working together. But, the people they end up against are usually the exact opposite.

The guys people pick off from the zerg tend not to be the best players. After all, anyone running with a large group should be stacked on the commander unless specifically breaking off to perform a special function or tactical move.
