Petition to move Anvil Rock down next week

Yup, no reason to respect people who decide they want to go actually have fun after their server has repeatedly told them to kitten off when they want to try being more competitive… Oh wait.
I have no problem with people transferring to seek better challenges and things of that nature; I do, however, not like the way Dragonbrand conducts itself and treats others (particularly in match-up threads and with constant partying / harassment in-game). Based on how they represent themselves to outsiders, I sigh softly when players transfer there. They don’t deserve a guild like ALS.
Furthermore, in the match-up we had with AR before this transfer, I spoke with a lot of ALS members on their BL because I was roaming a lot that week, and all of them expressed a deep love for AR, and a few said they’d never leave it. It saddens me deeply that the eponymous guild of a server has chosen to leave it when it needed them the most.
I’ll paraphrase Dovgan since I think he said it best:
“You don’t see a lot of quit from AR. Stubborn server with stubborn players. Even vs. the transfer monster that was Kaineng, there was AR with 15 balistas holding the N supply camp in our BL, because they were NOT taking everything. AR doesn’t play for a place, these folks like to fight. Would we prefer an even match up, sure sometimes, but then again, where is the fun in that?”
This is why I play on AR.
To ALS – it was wonderful to play with you when I could. I was one of the non-guild guys who would actually get on your TS so I could get the intel on fight locations and where I was needed. You are representing Anvil Rock on DB now (once and Anvil Rocker, always an Anvil Rocker) so you better show them the best of what you got.
See you in Tyria.
They don’t deserve a guild like ALS.
Kind words, thank you. We just aren’t seeing the more negative sentiments you’ve expressed about Dragonbrand (at least not yet). Time will tell, but every server has its bad people, just like every city has its bad neighborhoods. We saw plenty of that on Anvil Rock, and it was most often directed internally at allies, including ALS the guild, and ALS members individually.

We feel the same… it’s why we voted to keep the ALS tag and then voted on a replacement name, “Always Losing Sleep.” The new name was a suggestion given by an ALS member who will not be leaving AR yet, because his brother recently inherited the CRFT guild. Strong ties there, adding that ALS founders Bankai and Retsul (who will be regaining ownership of AR-ALS on our move-out deadline of July 5th) were CRFT members at release week.

Thanks to you, too. You, Dovgan, and others will be sorely missed. It was players like you that kept us on AR as long as we were. AR Lion’s Arch and WvW map chats during Sunday through Wednesday, however, proved that we had very much made the correct decision.
Edit: Regarding your question in the current match-up thread, about the TeamSpeak server, we will attempt to transfer ownership of the server subscription to Retsul if the service provider allows it (also on or around July 5th). That will include the domain name remaining as-is, even though its owner has moved to Dragonbrand; the domain is about 6 months old, and was purchased for 12.

Just thought I’d throw this in here.
Dear Anet,
Thanks.

It’s OK, took care of that when I got home. Was out of town for a bit and didn’t get a chance to see you guys off ALS, hope you guys find the challenges you are looking for. Happily we rolled a few tiers lower, gives the server a little bit of a chance to reset and rebuild, so everything works out in the end.

Dear Anet,
Thanks.

Why thank ANet? It was totally me. Your welcome, by the way. I accept gold.

so, AR has gotten matched up against DH and HoD this week. this may or may not be a good thing if you’re trying to get your rating to go down. it’s a good thing if you can coordinate well and ensure that everyone sandbags. it’s a bad thing if this brings out your fairweathers to try to do well this week.
if AR wants to maintain their current rating of 1326, they need to get a score that’s 1.43 times as big as DH’s score, and 2.12 times as big as HoD’s score. to make the math easy, makes sure your own score is bigger by half than DH, and at least double HoD’s.
if AR wants to reduce their rating to 1100 (a bit over HoD’s 1088) or 1200 (a bit under DH’s 1215) they have to come in well under these par scores. I don’t have time to calculate right this moment how much under. maybe later.
edit: I just took a look at mos.millenium.org. if you want to end up with a rating in the neighborhood of HoD’s, keep doing exactly what you’re doing now, because you’re well on target at the rate you’re going. then next week you should be getting the same kinds of matchups HoD has been getting, which may be a perfect fit for your small-group playstyle and current lower population.

This isn’t even sandbagging. You’re seeing real Anvil Rock.

If we can lose 100 points and put some distance between us and T5 , it will go a long way to help start the reset process.
It may only but 80ish or so come Thurs, but its a start.

reset nights has always been our weak point. we’ve been over 200ppt ever since we woke up and retook our BLs.
Lets see how it goes the rest of the week.
so, I ran some numbers. AR is going into this week’s match with a starting rating of 1326. how much of a rating reduction is needed in order to get the kinds of matchups you want?
If AR’s rating drops to 1226 (and other servers all stay the same), these are the probabilities (expressed as percentage likelihood) of getting various opponents:
Anvil Rock (1226)
0.000270 Fort Aspenwood
0.084780 Maguuma
0.266620 Sea of Sorrows
2.165220 Kaineng
2.088880 Yak’s Bend
2.943800 Ehmry Bay
3.620770 Crystal Desert
22.955590 Borlis Pass
23.504640 Stormbluff Isle
21.060150 Darkhaven
20.725690 Isle of Janthir
20.432560 Northern Shiverpeaks
18.164080 Gate of Madness
16.173150 Henge of Denravi
14.889290 Devona’s Rest
14.477910 Sorrow’s Furnace
9.023700 Ferguson’s Crossing
7.422900 Eredon Terrace
note that SBI and BP would remain your most likely opponents (although the probabilities of getting them are much reduced).
if AR’s rating drops to 1126, the probabilities change to:
Anvil Rock (1126)
0.000110 Fort Aspenwood
0.029320 Maguuma
0.090050 Sea of Sorrows
0.740110 Kaineng
0.717180 Yak’s Bend
0.993560 Ehmry Bay
1.225170 Crystal Desert
10.735660 Borlis Pass
11.762730 Stormbluff Isle
18.305830 Darkhaven
18.697150 Isle of Janthir
19.545680 Northern Shiverpeaks
20.549260 Gate of Madness
20.350590 Henge of Denravi
19.948870 Devona’s Rest
19.720120 Sorrow’s Furnace
18.284200 Ferguson’s Crossing
18.304410 Eredon Terrace
with -200, your most likely opponents would be GoM and HoD.
given that the new system makes it a lot easier to get rating changes (both up and down) maybe it’s not necessarily to sandbag to artificially get the “right” rating faster, especially since this week’s match looks like it’s going alright so far. maybe just enjoy the ride, wherever it takes you.

we’re not sandbagging. most of us enjoying this matchup. yea we are losing but AR never really cared about the score. The fun is in all the smaller fights and skilled roaming we can find.
Wish granted. Thread may be closed now.

Calm down, buddy. You’ll find life goes along much better without random acts of anger.
I didn’t think AR really had a population problem until we actually faced them…
I think ET, FC and AR would be a pretty good match
