After getting the mask I actually went in again in order to get all of the achievements.
It was fairly easy. Took me about an hour or so, finding and “surviving” the last chambers.

If you were at the top of the tower to begin with when you entered the instance, you shouldn’t have to run L3 again. You can just walk down to the chest.

You need to make the climb 2 times in order to do all achievements, because there are 2 dives.

So far, I’ve done one dive and the second climb. I plan to keep that character at the top to open the chest a few more times, and perhaps do some more runs of the final instance. I’ll do the second dive close to the end of the event, and never go back.

What would you suggest in place of it?

Anet doesn’t have the luxury of a subscription based game. They must make content that is achieveble by lots of people to promote extended play hours and gem spending.

If they make content too hard, people rage on the forums. See Queens Gauntlent for an example. That thing went dead pretty fast after it was released because many gave up on it. The same can be said with tequatl. Hard, large person count content. People gave up doing it daily on some servers and it goes days without a kill.

If they make it too easy people fly through it and then they have nothing to do.

Achievements are a safe solution to this. They can make content moderatly hard (which this content is) and put in achievements to give people a purpose to try to suceed in those hard parts or areas where they fail.

They basically have to juggle rewards, difficulty, and player dedication to promote many people playing it. Since they have no sub, they can’t be like WoW. WoW has “hard” endgame content. Some of which requires many people. Only 10% of the playerbase sees this content. If only 10% of the playerbase saw the end to the LS content, they would lose out on a lot of potential gemstore money and future money (players get discouraged and leave, no sub to get them to stay).

I like the way this LS turned out. I’d love to see more hardcore around 10 person content in the more perm parts of the world, but I’m not requiring it.

You could also group up w/ another player, do the jump outside the instance and meanwhile have him que for entering. Then you get back up again and inside, do the last boss, go out backdoor and do second dive.

Yes, that’s my plan too…. Finish the second dive as my last required achievement, and then leave the tower forever. And don’t look back and try to purge the memory of it from my mind.

Nope, i was at the bottom. As i was using the entrance to flip between overflows in the hopes of getting easily accessible chamber instances (first on L1 and the one in L3 starting area preferred).

Outside of the clockwork horrors (nasty cross between icebrood wolf and reef drake, way to many fast knockdowns and a confusion that makes it virtually impossible to melee) i found the instances interesting. Just wish those NPCs would leave the plants and mortars in the final chamber alone, as they respawn virtually instantly.

The interaction between Marjory and Rox was particularly funny, in that Marjory seemed to confuse Rox for a hallucination.

It was the main tower that got to me. I felt i got nowhere by fighting, and running felt dirty.

I already left. I am relieved it is over, and I do not intend to ever return.

I think there were positive elements to this part of the living story. I liked the chambers and the fact that you could do them alone, with a friend or an entire group.

The tower itself however….
The way to the chambers through the tower completely destroyed the positive aspects for me at least.

I initially thought a tower sounded interesting. I had hoped the tower itself would be for both a solo player and a group (as the chambers are).

I had hoped for content that you could complete once, to get your achievements, but then get the option to repeat: This time slightly more challenging and slightly more rewarding, scaling depending on whether you progress through it alone, with a friend or with a full group.

As an alternative, I think it would have been nice if each level had offered something different.
Like a jumping puzzle for one level. Maybe a level where closed doors blocks the path and you would need to solve riddles to progress though. Anything to make the levels a bit different from one another and bit more interesting.
Something that isn’t a zerg for once.

I don’t think this living story is without positive elements, but I think this is the first time I am happy that content is not permanent.

Yeah, i kinda want to see the chambers mechanic turned into some kind of solo/partner-friendly fractals.

It is the travelling between that is exhausting. In part because of the open world mob respawn system (they seem to use any available spawn point within a certain radius, even ones cleared seconds ago), in part because of the path blocking group events.

Those events may not have been so bad though, if you could see them from anywhere inside the tower and plan accordingly. Right now you pretty much have to stumble into them.

Never mind that there are no staging areas or safe spots between each of the levels.

I’d like to get my mask, but to be honest I’ve just about had enough of the tower.

I’m fed up with being pushed, pulled, immobilized, blown up, ignored when I’m downed and trampled over when I’m dead.

I’m not really keen on this sort of content, it’s not fun, there’s little skill involved (Whatever you lot say that claim to have solo’d it) and it seems like cheap content to me.

Jumping puzzles, love them or hate them, I hate them. Thread killer.

Overall I’ve enjoyed the Tower. I like the concept of the chambers in the middle of open world content. I like that the final chamber can be done solo or in a group. I’ve done it both ways and enjoyed it. Yes, it’s a challenge but that’s all right w/ me. The main reason I’ve quit going since I got the achievements and the mask is those red circles. It’s not even because I can’t dodge out of them, most of the time I’m successful at that. Not always, I’ve been bounced around plenty, but for the most part I can get out in time.

But the red circle, followed by the flash, was beginning to be “stuck” behind my eyelids when I’d go to bed at night. If I can play earlier in the day it’s not so bad, but if my only play time is shortly before going to bed I just work on leveling an alt instead of playing in the tower.

I have the mask. But I think I’ll still stay in the Tower for a bit. It’s a fun place to be when you have no time pressure to finish achievements.

I normally sit near the end of level 3 and dash in to help people if they seem to get near the end but are having difficulty or go down right near the end. I think people who finish and rush back to champ-farms or whatever miss out on just soaking up the ambience of a well made area. Take the time to maybe get some screenshots and just have some fun helping others up.

Yeah, I sometimes find myself in there murdering Elites as a public service.

On the whole I like the tower, but as the population declines, I sadly expect it to be another piece of content that scales horribly to the population present.

Same. Also helped other randoms through because the power of love and friendship is strong on fort aspenwood.

I spent the majority of the day doing all the achievements and finally got my mask. Well worth all the cussing I did along the way.
