Scarlet is not trying to take over the world. She is not even trying to fight Kryta or the other races.

She is looking for the perfect being.
I guess she has seen the future and how the Elder Dragons eventually take over the world.
Now she is looking for her own super-army of hybrids in order to keep order in Tyria.

We’ve confirmed that Scarlet can access the same ‘alternate’ Tyria(s) that created the Steam Hulks/Ogres etc – as confirmed by Scarlet’s taunt about the Infinity Ball (if you’re an Asura that chose that personal story).

This could mean that Scarlet has been to/might even be from a place with evil versions of your characters (unless you already killed them in of course). If this might eventually mean alternative dimension versions of open world maps I’m all for it!

We’ve had another 4 weeks of (fairly fun) ministories, but there’s still been NO PROGRESS in the storyline. There’s still no PLOT to Scarlet’s Story.

Here’s the point for the story writers: for every piece of content please ask yourself, “How does this fit into the story and how does it advance the plot? What new information am i giving the players to keep them interested in the meta-arc of the Living story?”

If the story writers can’t give good answers to these questions, and the players themselves can’t find the answers to these questions IN GAME, then you’re failing at the PURPOSE of the Living Story.

In the future, please ditch the overuse of caps, as that’s not constructive and reduces the chance that we’ll respond. We read this stuff. You’re not posting in a vacuum.

Hi Bob, I do mean this post sincerely as part of it is in response to the player above. While I can understand the frustration of the use caps due to people over using it in emails, games, etc. it they can still be useful when used in the correct manner. I personally use * around such thing because people hate caps but still the same concept.

I feel the poster used caps to emphasis points and to emphasis the frustrating issues that continue.

An example to help clear up more just in case.. What happens when someone contines to do something you ask them not to or to do? You get frustrated etc. and may eventually have to get stern or even yell at them. I am not trying to be mean but I do feel it come to the point where we are really trying to make it clear to you, at least some of us.

Please also keep in mind that while words do have meaning, lack of action makes them more and more meaningless.

A lot of use I know hate Scarlet, some for different reasons then others but she is continued to be used and in the same manner.

For me I have posted about how I feel about her, in short, I like the LS done so far, though I feel some stuff could of been better but Scarlet, and I am sincere when I say this, just ruins everything. She pretty much unravels everything you have built. I really think you are throwing away good ideas with such an awful villian.

I do not feel like I am playing GW2 with her, she just does not work in the GW world, she is just too cartoony/ Your best course of action IMO is that you kill her off as quickly as you can and start with something else. Thank you. : 3

It was an example, the whole yelling bit. That is why I said it was an example and not to be taken as a literal point of the situation,. As a customer I have been told X thing will be done X amount of times and it continues to not be. This has happen with other stuff IRL, not game related.

Some people required to be yelled at why others do not, it actually depends on the type of person, there is psychology behind it. Some you have to stern, some you just have to be friendly and let them know, some you have to express anger and sadly the worse of them all, some only learn the really hard way which various on the situation, ie continue to drive drunk until finally behind bars or badly hurt themselves in an accident.

Guys…I just had an epiphany. A massive one. Everything is leading towards the next personal story releases. Reasoning behind this…

A. Frost and Flame: Scarlet’s Alliance was not only testing how well various villainous factions would work together, but also how various races would. Testing the waters for a bigger force, if you will.

B. Dragonbash: Scarlet set out to destory the Lion’s Arch council, considered to be the most competent of all the governments in Tyria. This would weaken Tyria considerably, since there’d be nobody who could easily rally the other governments together.

C. Queen’s Jubilee: Scarlet set out to kidnap/kill Queen Jenna, the only person who could keep a peace treaty going between the Charr and the Humans. With her out of the way, the two races would war again, leaving them divided against the bigger threat, the dragons.

D. Twilight Assault: Here she revealed she knew something about Caithe nobody else knew, something that she never wants out in the open. Caithe is known to keep secrets close to her, and doesn’t reveal them easily. Since nobody is supposed to know about this, it means Scarlet can somehow get information nobody should be able to have.

E. The Tower of Nightmares and The Nightmare Within: She created an alliance that has spread a poisonous toxin far across Tyria, which while causing hallucinations, could easily prevent people from mentally fighting back somebody from taking control of them…

F. The Nightmare Within: She shows more knowledge about everybody than should be possible. She knows Marjory’s past, Kasmeer’s past, Rox and Braham’s pasts, and even the player character’s past, taunting us with everything we’ve ever done in the personal story. This shouldn’t be possible, unless she has eyes and ears everywhere. Something you wouldn’t expect from anything other than an Elder Dragon that controls something that can be everywhere…like plants.

Add all this together, and it’s confirmed…she’s working for the Elder Dragon of the Jungle, Mordramoth. Gentlemen, I daresay next year we’re off to the deepest parts of Maguuma!

I learnt that Marjory and Kasmeer are in a sort of relationship ….. of a sort that would get them banned in some southern US states.

Meriem is right. It’s exactly our place to yell. You’re a customer and a consumer and ultimately in control of the content you choose. Anet wants people logging on every day. If the story is keeping you from doing this, it isn’t in poor taste to give input on why. You paid for the game, they want you to log in daily and they want you to buy gems. It’s absolutely your place to give input about the product you purchased.

I think that the snake’s sound was just a joke referring to the next battle against the hibrid snake. She was making fun of us, like she always do.

I have to say that I love scarlet, she is funny and i want to see more of her. I agree also with some of you who wants to see something deeper from her.
I would want to know more about the krait’s proffet, what he meens to them.

In molten alliance, we learned that the chars were the leaders, and the dragas only want to conquer new territory and not be slaves of anyone.
In this case the nightmare silvarys are the leaders of the alliance, playing with the kraits, who just want their proffets come to live. But I still need to know why they want their proffets come to live.

And on top of all that, why scarlet is doing all this. I agree that we need more revelations or at least more hints.
The living world is supposed to be a tv series (which i love), but the scarlet theme is getting to be like watching the same episode over an over XD

I agree that the story is the lack of these 2 weeks updates. The rest of departments are doing a very good job, in all aspect. The story’s department not so good.
In almost a year they just made parties that ended wrong and alliances that went nowhere.
The only different stuff was the election between kiel and evon, but that went nowhere instantly. Evon is still crying about his loose in lions arch and kiel dissapeared…

In other hand, i like kasmeer and marjory. Great npcs.

This got me thinking. There are now 4 ‘companions’. Braham is guard, Marjory is theif, Kashmeer is mesmer and Rox is ranger. This leaves one spot open to finish off a fabulous five, which would be your character. Could be a set-up for a new destinies edge with you in the staring role.

Expect the frostbite alliance next: A cross between the Svanir and grawl.

Races scarlet has used and abused.

Char – flame and frost. Took new hybrid weapons
Human- Southsun and clockwork. Took ability to make new army.
Assura – Aetherblades. Took what? Megalaser? Lightning based weapons?
Sylvari – Nightmare. Took ability to create powerful hybrid creature.
Norn I don’t know to me they have so far not been main puppets. What could the Sons of Sanir provide?

So, she can create a mechanical army. Arm them with lightning and megalasers. Lead the army with hybrid things. What is her target? Jormag?

My wish for Christmas/St Nikolas/Hanukkah/Thanksgiving/Yule all combined (no need to make me any other gifts until next Summer) is that you let us kill Scarlet this year and be done with her.

I do not want to see Scarlet again and would love to be rid of her “big secrets” that are none. Can we move on to some interesting lore? (or said otherwise: move on to ANY lore at all? Cause the story with Scarlet is soooo awfully thin that we cannot really call it lore tbh).

I was disappointed to get to the top of the tower and find nothing new happened. Sadly I wasn’t surprised.

This in a nutshell.

My main problems with Scarlet are:

• Once again, we defeat her minions and raze her lair and she’s obviously already planned on that happening and whisks away with a crazy laugh… ok, I could endure that the first few times, but eventually she needs to stay put and die – her character isn’t strong enough to remain the “nemesis” of our new team of heroes.

• She got the Krait setup thinking she gave them their prophet, although it was only some champion hybrid that we dutifully escort out of this world. What happens now – Krait tower crumbles; Nightmare court retreats, Scarlet already said she’ll see us again so await LS reincarnation issue XX for a new alliance army.

• Guild Wars 2’s premise is Tyria facing the threat of several awakened elder dragons… is Scarlet at all linked to one of these – and why are we not seeing these stories develop in parallel?
  Zhaitan is dead and gone; Tequatl is angrier, but he/she is only a champion anyhow, so what about the other elder dragons. Well past a year in and it’s like no one remembers this is what is really troubling all nations of the world – and it’s this diabolical Sylvari who keeps pestering us.
  If it’s a Living Story/World you’re after, things don’t happen in sequence like this… Scarlet getting to do all she wants, then the next threat can come along.

We should be seeing stuff more according to an overlapping/parallel schedule; e.g.

June: Dragonbash & Scarlet’s Aetherblades
July: Captain’s Council politics, Zephyr & Bazaar + a thread to research whereabouts of Kralkatorrik and its still ongoing threat
Aug: Another Elder Dragon is slowly moving and stuff beginning to happen in corresponding region (e.g. opening a new zone in Maguuma to explore signs of the jungle dragon surfacing)
Sep: Scarlet returns, SAB & Tequatl is rising
Oct: New developments in Maguuma with more signs of dragon forces on the march, Scarlet reappears in TA + Halloween
Nov: Linking Krait Tower with Deep Sea Dragon, yet another Elder Dragon on the move + maybe toss in some teaser from Dominion of Winds seeing as they are neighbours to a giant Nightmare Tower built on their doorstep… The Nightmare Within would’ve been a great opportunity to have some Tengu warrior band come out to assist you in the story instances assaulting the tower – after all, if that tower would persist, the Krait would become a major force to be reckoned with whether they had a true prophet(champion) to lead them or not, and I doubt they’d let that wall between them and Dominion of Winds stand if they mean to enslave&conquor those around them.

And so on – and by saying new developments I’m not asking to see these elder dragons or fight them already at this time, this needs to be paced out, but things need to happen in parallel (and by that I don’t mean some festival running in parallel with a “real” story). The world is not setup like Scarlet begins, Scarlet continues, Scarlet continues, Scarlet gone, Next threat begins, Next threat continues, Next threat vanquished, etc. That becomes very boring and is far removed from – at least – my perception of a living world where a lot can happen at the same time.

Sorry this got long and a bit of a ramble, but this update seriously had me growing tired of Guild Wars 2. I find logging in a bit of a bore; I perform my tasks to do my daily/monthly and do some WvW (although 70% of the time I can’t get in due to queues) and with this story, it’s like we’re getting nowhere further in the big picture. It’s fun to zerg and do small groups in the tower; it’s kind of chaotic and somewhat challenging – but that’s just a mechanic – not the story content.

It was scarlet that made Tequatal stronger.

Everyone should start watching Wooden Potatoes’ stuff to stop comments like above, “Oh its boring!” and “It makes no sense!” or play more than just one race and their personal story.

I really think that after Scarlet found out about the truth through the eternal alchemy, she lost her mind and had a vision, I think that she lost the Pale Trees guidance and turned to the dark side. Probably why she’s doing all of this, but i think theres more in that vision, I think that she’s one of the champions or general of the jungle dragon. Scarlets main feature is manipulation if you look at the story, maybe this is one of the feature of the jungle dragon, manipulation through Nightmare.

I have to admit I’m curious about Scarlett’s motivations as well.

as a LONG time GM of various dice / paper games one of the hardest things to do is give a villain depth. At this point, we know that she has considerable influence if she can pull various extremely separate races into these alliances. Dreadge & Flame Legion….. Krait and… well anybody, but Krait and Nightmare Court…. O.o

As expected the Court are simply using the Krait… no surprise there but this does all boil down to the void of what’s her motivation.

At this point we’ve seen what she can do but not why, it would be cool to somehow play past events to see her motivation (the Pale Tree gave us a glimpse of future events in Orr, so there’s precedent for minor temporal manipulation in the interest of giving information), I’d like to play through and learn some of that story about Scarlette, and if it’s well done…. one might even consider her justified but have to bring her down anyway. Actions which could lead to even more storyline branches, afterall you can’t kill someone justified crazy without creating a martyr.

Zhaitan is in Orr… (oh sure you see him fall but really now… you think he’s dead… pfft)

and Primordus nor his general have yet to appear outside of a few surprisingly small destroyer incursions in various zones, particularly after an impressive showing in GW1.

the theory holds water as much as any other I think…. and Scarlett would be an excellent way to introduce this new threat, additionally it gives her solid motive, since all these alliances are with such divergent groups that, should they succeed in bringing down the main races, they would devolve into in-fighting making them all easy pickings for any of the elder dragons….

…. and plants are… indeed… everywhere.

I was hoping for more plot development with the latest patch…

Currently, Scarlet just feels like a shallow villain from one of those superhero team shows, sending the monster of the week at the players.

I do hope there’s some deeper plot development in store, but if not, maybe it’s time for giant transforming mechs in the living story?

What we learned was Anet is going to continue to use this boring character. We can try an come up with some plausible explanations of why Scarlet even exists, but the reality is a much simpler answer. The writers are just not very good.

What I don’t get is why people think that learning more about Scarlet will make her character better. If JarJar binks had Citizen Kane as a back story he’d still be JarJar Binks, getting his tongue stuck in things & saying “dellow felegates!”. So what if her back story makes sense? yes the backstory might be interesting, but she’ll be just as annoying, have the same cheesy b-horror-movie crazy dialog, look dumb & have a lore-trivializing power-level.

I’m guessing this is if you are Sylvari and have Malyck’s story as part of your personal history. I do, but I haven’t gotten him yet. Looking forward to seeing this happen.

This exactly. Scarlet could have the most awesome reveal the next Living Story but shed still the same annoying badly written villain always been.

Nothing Anet can do will fix that at this point. I can’t wait to kill her so Anet can try to do something better in the next story arc..

What I’d like to see is a living story that as players actually influence, and not just play through passively spectators. Doo something the way L5R does things.
