Does the pet you choose define your story?
No the ranger pet has no effect on the story as far as I can tell. It is like the armour the other classes get at the start.
So its a glitched then?
Well, it depends on where you heard that particular line. If it’s from the Wolf Shaman after you complete his Renown Heart, he says that to everybody.
No its from the starter cinimatic, like I said in the OP
It sounds like you saw that because you chose “cunning” in your personal story, that you think its important to protect the spirits of the wild. Similarly to choosing a pet, choosing your revered spirit has no affect on your story other than someone greeting you in a lodge. So if you chose bear, the bear shaman or whomever at the lodge might say something like, “I see you are one of Bear’s chosen.” Same with humans and choosing their Gods, and so on.
“Walk with the pack. In the eyes of Wolf, we are all brothers and sisters.”
I choose Snow Leopard as my pet, as my ranger revere(d) the spirit of Snow Leopard. I like to RP a little.
Ya I never, ever chose anything to do with cunning, so ya XP
Your personal story is governed by your response of honor/rage/charm.
The open cinematic is just that
You can manipulate your response to give a different personality aspect
an example is you have rage and charm exactly at the same level your a scoundrel.
increase rage slightly your a brute
so simply no the pet has nothing to do with your story and is not a glich
I still don’t understand it, or like the way it was executed…
Your personal story is affected by the heirloom/drunk/rival question and thats it. Everything else doesnt seem to serve a purpose at all since the personality only effects unimportant npcs at the moment and your pets can all be gathered from the starting area.
I’m not even sure why its in there, honestly.

No, the one about how you revere the spirits also plays into the story. It dictates your 1-10 arc, while the “last moot” question dictates the 11-20.
Your choice of Spirit of the Wild does not affect the storyline, but will affect certain NPC interactions. Minor things, as mentioned above. As for “why it’s in there”; not everything has to have a tangible benefit – some things are there to provide atmosphere.
Basically, the five chargen questions are divided as follows:
One “profession” question, which gives you a piece of equipment (usually headgear, but not always), often with a unique skin. (Unless you’re a ranger, in which case it determines your starting pet.)
Three “race” questions, two of which determine your first two quest arcs, and the third is just fluff to flesh out your character.
One “personality” question, which can affect dialog choices, including some in your quest line.
