Issormir Difficulty
Yeah, he was a lot harder in the beta. No matter how well you did, you could count on being knocked down into the downed state within the first several seconds when he does that swoop-around.
And I always thought that was the point—it was a tutorial for the downed state. That’s why Eir says “Don’t forget about the little ones—they’re dangerous, too!” or something. The smaller wurms have low HP, and were thus supposed to teach you how to get out of the downed state on your own.
I played a Norn for every BWE, and was saddened to see how easy it was at launch.

It was A LOT harder in beta. On one memorable occasion I spent all the fight in downed state without being completely defeated, and it was the coolest experience I ever had – it felt like a hard-fought battle with real danger in it. Now it’s just… easy.
All throughout the beta I figured that was done on purpose—I thought all the intro bosses would basically insta-gib you, then spawn easily-killed level 1s, specifically to show players the downed state in the starter area.
I now know I was wrong.
All of the first 3 race tutorial bosses were harder in the beta really. I understand they felt the need to nerf them. but I do feel they went a bit far.
I honestly saw it as an accomplishment when I avoided death by the wurm for the enitre fight on my BWE norn guardian.
But it’s one of the first fights since you start the game. Player don’t even know what half of their buttons do at that point. It should be fun and engaging, challenge can come after level one.
That is the issue. It isn’t fun and engaging. The fight ends incredibly quick and offers no level of challenge. Like I said in my original post, it should be a guaranteed win for anyone at their keyboard. However, it should not be this easy.
Multiply Issormirs health value by 5 and the fight would be epic. Last time I did it I only attacked 25 % of the fights duration to make the fight fun for all and not last only 10 seconds.

Did someone use the words “Issomir” and “difficulty” in the same sentence?
For those who do not remember, this is the giant wurm that you fight upon starting your journey. As I have defeated it many times now, I am confident when I say that its difficulty needs improvement. Defeating this creature is far too easy of a task. I am reminded of the battle in the Sylvari area with the same kind of creature. It is a near exact experience except that the Sylvari wurm presents a challenge and its knockback, if memory serves, was further. I understand that the first encounter should be a guaranteed victory as long as the player is trying. However, that doesn’t mean it needs to end only moments after having begun.
This experience could be a great one but at the moment is one of the more forgettable beginnings.
I find it hilarious that you think the Sylvari dragon thing is at all challenging, because it’s not.
They’re all at an equal level of being complete jokes.

What, you mean the three buttons you get from your starter weapon, plus the fourth one being dodge?
Yeah really hard for a new player to learn. 9.9
You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.
it was an almost guaranteed knock-downed in the beta. Well it was, if you were thief.
None of the other ones were (maybe human cuz of the adds).
Currently, they’re all more or less a joke.
I think the idea in beta was that at one point during the tutorial fight, you WERE going to get downed, to show new people the system. Guess that went out the window, eh?

That was the impression I got as well…
Initially after the “nerf” I thought I had just gotten better (you know like how a new player would get his downed-tutorial, but with skill you could escape) but it is basically possible to AFK all of the tutorial bosses without getting downed… rather sad, too!
I think it’s adequately done. Simply because it’s a tutorial, and you cannot skip it. If a newbie couldn’t understand how combat works, let them learn in the open area, not get them stuck in a tutorial. It is only an introduction, not an obstacle or a challenge, which are bountiful out there in starter areas.
