Hello everyone! I have questions about the norn transformations. I want to do some roleplay as a young norn, and there’s a few points I need to know:

- Does their transformation is tied with the age of the character?
-Is it tied with a spirit that “appeared” to the character, or can they transform at will into any spirit?
-Can the norns transform into other spirits than Bear, Raven, Wolf and Leopard?

I’m quite sure this will be more a debate than a Q&A, but that’s what I need to know

- Does their transformation is tied with the age of the character?

There is nothing specific about that, but I never heard/saw a kid transform, other than that I don’t believe there is any age restriction.

-Is it tied with a spirit that “appeared” to the character, or can they transform at will into any spirit?

The norn will favor that spirit for sure, but if a situation calls for other form a norn won’t hesitate to use it.

-Can the norns transform into other spirits than Bear, Raven, Wolf and Leopard?

I think norns are learning new forms with time, in GW1 they only transformed into the Bear form, but players could get the Bear, Wolf and Raven blessings that could be considered a transformation but w/o the shapeshift, and now there is also the Snow Leopard, so who knows a norn out there was able to attune to other spirit so close that they got able to transform into that form.

- I think the act of transformation needs to be practiced to be performed reliably, and the warrior needs to be in tune with their animal spirit. So, the more you practice and thus the older you are, the easier the transformation will be.
- I have never heard of a norn that transformed into multiple spirits. Every norn favours one animal spirit and the ability to transform relies on the connection between the two.
- I think only the greater spirits (bear,wolf,snow-leopard,raven) allow for norn to take their form. I’m also not sure a norn would settle for anything less than one of the greater and most powerful spirits.

It also depends on the nature of the transformation: is it something granted by the spirits themselves, or is shapeshifting innate to the species? If it’s the former, you probably need the blessing of said Spirit – you can the blessing of any and all Spirits, but it seems only one favours you in particular – but if it is the latter, it might be as a mark of respect to their saviours (oddly enough excluding Owl, Ox, Eagle and Wolverine).

Any class is easy to play, but not as easy to master. So sod off, warrior-haters.

Norn transformation is something that may be turned “off” somehow, when Jora and her brother Svanir got close to the possible Jormag ex-champion in Drakkar Lake in GW1 and was cursed, Jora lost the ability to transform into the Bear form.

I have, but only once; Eir in Edge of Destiny took on two forms (in different parts of the book).

The Mossman in the swamp fractal is a Norn who displays multiple spirit forms, sometimes more than one form during the same encounter.

Jormag seem to have a lot more connection/awareness of the spirit world than some of the other dragons. It’s not all that surprising one of its champions could tamper with a Norn’s ties to that realm.

Yes, that shows that the norn transformation isn’t totally a biological feature, but also something in the spiritual level.

I can’t wait to see Jormag in game.
