I’ve seen a few topics where people are not too happy about the racial skills. Considering that Norn (and Charr) are really big massive races it would only make sense that they could carry more loot/equipment than other races. It would be a relatively small boost, but still very useful for us who collect everything and constantly have our inventory clogged up with everything you can imagine. In my opinion it would be a fantastically useful racial skill which would not affect game play too much.

So your assumption is since Norn and Charr are bigger they have bigger clothing/armor, and hence have bigger pockets/bags? Since all armor, and bags are created equally this will not make sense. Also how would deeper pockets count as racial skills?

They could be able to carry an extra pack to make it work but i disagree with the entire idea. A-Net specifiacally wanted to keep races on the same level, even if it goes against lore. There are so many problems trying to balance physical abilities of races that vary so greatly. The idea would doom collectors and explorers into norn and charr and predetermine races based on what the player was trying to accomplish. A-net wanted to stay away from this amking racial choice mainly cosmetic and matter of flavor.

You want more carrying capacity? Buy a bigger bad slot on the trading post. They’re not as expensive as you would think.

Lore-wise, any Norn would beat any other member of the other races in a test of strength. For balance reasons, our player characters, or PCs, are nerfed through the ground in this regard.

My assumption is simply that Norns are stronger than smaller races such as Asura and therefore can carry more weight. I don’t mean they have bigger pockets, but in terms of weight it makes sense that a Norn can carry more than an Asura. Many RPGs have weight included one of them being The Elder Scrolls Series and possibly their new MMO will include that as well?

I don’t have a bag problem. I have 15 slot bags and I don’t have the need to upgrade.

My argument is that it does not directly make your character perform better. And it is a fact that “cosmetic” differences makes it easier for smaller characters to complete jumping puzzles. Why would it be so much more imbalanced that Norn could have a couple of more slots? None said it would have to be 20 more slots.

Norns are far stronger than their apparent size would suggest. They are not just large humans, they are giants of mythological strength. Lore-wise a Norn is far stronger than any of the other races.

At first I was going to say that it would give those races a huge advantage, but you do have a point that they are already at a significant disadvantage for jumping puzzles (and even many vistas). And a single extra slot would not be a massive advantage, and would seem a reasonable tradeoff to me.

Still, I don’t think it’ll happen since ANet’s philosophy with the races seems to be that no race should have any mechanical advantage over another. Now whether some racial skills do in reality give an advantage is another discussion, but ANet has stated that racial skills are intended to be weaker than profession skills and thus should not give any mechanical advantage (even if that’s not the case in practice).

I am not saying you should not give the other races something although they already have that jumping puzzles are easier to complete. They could even have made it clear that this is a form of racial advantage.

I don’t think a bonus slot would make much of a difference.

People really will suggest the silliest things won’t they? Have you heard of balance? If the Norn were given more carrying capacity then everyone would play them. Not an issue really but do you only ever want to see Norn in the game?

Also this idea that the smaller characters are easier in jumping puzzles. I have never had an issue doing a jumping puzzle with my Norn, maybe you just need to practice some more?

Anyways, I would not let that slot be any major factor for what character I choose to play. There are many other things that are more important.

If you read my post properly you will see that my argument is that it already is unbalanced and this will not in any way unbalance the game.

From a utility perspective I don’t need the slot. I have 15 slot bags and haven’t even thought of upgrading as I usually don’t have problems with space.
