Norn Ranger?
Eir, one of the members of Destiny’s Edge is a Norn Ranger :P
Oh really, cool
Thanks for the info.
I am a norn ranger and I would say they are probably one of the most fitting races for the profession! Eir was my inspiration actually. and due to the fact they are very in tune with the natural world and have animals running all over their cities as well as animal spirits that they revere.

I also play a norn ranger and couldn’t agree more. It has actually become my favorite character which was quite a surprise to myself…but yes a norn ranger is very fitting lore wise. While the Norn show reverence for the animal spirits and animals they also use animals as guides and companions, they further more realize everything has it’s place in a greater circle. (Think of Druidic, Nordic, Native American culture’s/practices as an example if you will)
Would a hunter be ok with it? Most hunting I’d say is done with a hunting-animals (usually dogs nowadays). I’m not a real hunter so feel free to correct me
I think the question would be more would the pet be ok (sometimes killing kin)?
In any case, I also feel Norn to be the most fitting Ranger
Well the Norn have The Great Hunt a dedicated event just for hunting. I’d find it awesome if I had my pet Lynx take on & defeat a bigger veteran Lynx to participate in the event. Of course assuming we actually lived in tyria & we were norn rangers/hunters :P

I’m not 100% sure I’m understanding what the question is, but let me see if I can answer what I think it is. I no longer hunt either (I used to quite a few years ago) but I still have friends and family that do (and many that actually train dogs) for a variety of reasons. Moving on.
Are you asking if the companion (your example a dog) would be ok with the hunt, sometimes killing kin? Honestly it’s all in the training, it’s in harnessing and nurturing instincts that are natural to them that have almost been bred out of them (perhaps domesticated out of them would be better phrasing) through positive reinforcement and “games”. Many “sporting” dogs whether retrievers, spotters, treeing or the likes love what they do, they love the thrill of it and they enjoy doing it thoroughly. Having said that, there are also some that just don’t take to it as readily as others.
Now in the land of Tyria, a make believe land we have a multitude of companion choices as rangers. If you’ll note we can only tame “juvenile” companions of species, we bond with them, we adventure with them we take them with us…we spend time with them. Just like a trainer would do with a “sporting” dog in real life, do they “mind” that the boar they’re killing is of the same species? I don’t think so, but I can’t say for certain, I think they’re just doing as they’re bid by their “master” they’ve come to trust and love.
It’s easy to read to much into anything, but I hope I understood your question or what you were trying to ask, and provided some sort of helpful answer.
I do hunt. I grew up in the south and hunting was like second nature. I’ve used dogs quite often (beagles, spaniels, pointers, retrievers, etc.) for small game, especially birds and rabbits. And I use a gun for small game, usually a .22 rifle or a 12 gauge shotgun with bird-shot (BB or BBB depending on the bird). The largest game I’ve “hunted” is deer and I’ve never used an animal for that. I no longer hunt deer (unless it’s with a bow) because I don’t consider sitting in a tree stand covered in camo and deer urine, waiting for a deer to walk by, to be actually hunting. The thrill of the hunt, which is what I hear the Norn characters talking about (when they’re not talking about drinking LOL), is, I imagine, what it’s like to hunt with an animal. Tracking down your prey, training dogs to run a rabbit in front of you, the howls the dogs send when they’ve found what you’ve sent them looking for, the pride in a retriever’s eyes when he brings back the duck you just shot down. Add to all that that I am also pagan studying Native American lore. I think the Norn is the PERFECT race for a Ranger character.
RumDrum, nice answer. But it was a rhetorical question

D’oh! I wasn’t sure, I questioned it a few times before typing a reply, oh well chalk it up to true Tuesday is it 5PM yet boredom then. =D
A lot of responses thanks.
Basically I just wondered if a Norn is very keen on hunting, which means killing animals would he or she fit being a ranger who uses animals instead of killing them
Norn are obviously keen on hunting. They don’t really often live in Hoelbrak, they live scattered through the Shiverpeaks, so they have to provide for themselves. How do you think they do that? Hunting and gathering.

Carter, a lot of hunting in real life was and still is done using animal companions like the dog. In medieval times for example the nobles used hawks, so dont feel bad about using animal companions to hunt other animals.
Also as a sidenote, all norn characters you create of every profession will be hunters. Warriors, engineers, elementalists, all of them hunt, but in different ways.
what other proffesions fit the Norn’s Lore wise cause i cant think of any except warrior or ranger
Personal Story, WvsW , Guild Missions, Living Story and so much more.

Mesmer. Those huge brains of theirs make for natural psionic powers.

Warrior and Ranger are the most obvious and fit most norn stereotypes to a T. Still it’s not to hard to justify most professions.
Guardian: Wolf teaches loyalty to the pack and other guardian-like ideals.
Thief: Snow Leopard advises stealth and cunning, Raven similarly promotes trickery and subterfuge.
Mesmer: is pretty much the embodiment of Raven’s ideals
Elementalist: doesn’t really have a 1 to 1 equivalent in norn culture but their reverence to the natural world could easily extend to controlling the elements.
Necromancer: again, not the easiest to explain via norn culture but there is an example in GW1 of a norn necromancer.
Engineer: This is the only one I’ve got nothing for
I actually started with a Norn Necromancer and a Human Ranger. I have since deleted them both and started again with a Norn Ranger.
