Couldn´t help but make the obvious connection.

Wonder if this is ANet´s inspiration for our dear spirit revering (not worshiping!) giant peeps.

Those two are probably closer related to Norn in GW2.

The inspiration for the Norn race comes, quite obviously, from ancient scandinavian culture, mixed with either saami culture or native american culture.

Both saami and native american culture have their similarities depending on tribes and such.

The name Norn comes from norse lore, Urd, Verdandi and Skuld, (past, present and future). The iconic spirit worship is more shamanistic in the saami or native american way. The Norse had/have their gods, Asar and Vaner (Aesir and Vanir) aswell as the Jotuns. Jotuns are giants, devided into different tribes/races.

Hrimthursar = Frostgiants of Niflheim that want to cover the world in ice.
Eldthrusar = Firegiants of Muspelheim, that wants to devour the world in flames. Surtur the king of the muspeli is the giant that will set the world ablaze during ragnarök, so the new age will dawn.

Both ravens and wolves are strongly related to norse lore aswell. Hugin, Munin, Freke and Gere, Odin’s two ravens and his two wolves. Then you have Hate and Skoll, the wolves that chase the moon and sun and will devour them during ragnarök. There is also Månegarm who lives on the blood of the dead and chases the sun and moon aswell, causing solar and lunar eclipse.

Eir and Gram are also related to nordic mythology.

Yep, though is it Gram or Garm her wolf is called, either way, both of them no matter what are from norse lore.

Garm = The wolf that guards the gates to Hel.
Gram = A magical weapon. Made by the dwarf Regin, given to Sigurd Fafnrsbane, the slayer of the dragon Fafnr.

There are also a relation between the animal spirits of the Norn and norse lore.

Fylgjas/Fylgias are animal spirits that follow you through life, watching you and guiding you on your way. They can also go under the name Fylgjukona, in this case they take a human female form. There is also the Hemingja, they follow you till the day you die and then move on to a close relative to grant its protection. A spirit that guards all of your kin really.

The Fylgjas and Hemingja related to the norn and valkyries along with other female spirits, that all go under the name Diser.
