So….freaking….slow…
Id say due to the size of the characters, if norns need to move as fast yet has covers the same speed as humans do, theyd have to take little baby steps or something. THAT, or have them seemingly slide or skid on the ground somehow, which is just bad animation. I can’t figure out how else this can be done… except maybe alter your preception
Basically what raccoon said, in reality they should actually move faster (along with the charr) then Asura, Humans and Sylvari but since they do not want all races equal sacrifices have to be made.
That being said……it’s just something you get used to.

Or we could try to push for a new norn racial skill that is roughly equivalent to Signet of the Hunt. Just saying.
You could make the smallest norm possible to make it seem closer to the smaller races and that should alter the perspective of their speed. Also you could just roll norns on classes that are more mobile and trait/take skills to compensate movement speed. Guardians and mesmers wouldn’t be the best choices in this case.
It’s all a matter of perspective. All the races moves at the same base speed, but the Norn look slower since they have lumbering steps as opposed to the jog of the Humans or the floppy mess of a run Asura have.
Yeah I have this issues as well. It’s reasonable when using a speed boost signet but otherwise it’s bit painful to watch. Not nearly as bad as the charr tho who addition to being large run on all fours.
An unfortunate consequence of having different sized races. I don’t know that they can really fix that. I think the current animation is probably the best you’re going to get.

heyyy i love my asuras floppy mess run
I pretty much have to use a speed boost signet all the time on my Norn Necro, even though I don’t care for the active. It’s painful for me to play without it, and I too would have a hard time playing a class with no access to such a signet.
Granted I understand why they move slow, and they can’t really move faster without having some serious balance issues. But that doesn’t make it any easier to be playing a character who feels like he’s running in slow motion.
As mentioned already, if you make your norns smaller they don’t seem as slow, the bigger you make them > slower their run looks. Also think about a profession with a lot of swiftness or a signet or trait for permanent speed. I would recommend a warrior with the constant 10% from traits, thief with amazing 20% signet and general mobility like jumps and flashes, guardian with more than enough swiftness for 3 classes, necro, ranger and ele with signets/traits too. Mesmer not so much, I have one and luckily I constantly play with my bf so he speeds me up <3
Honestly, I kind of like the speed of my max height norn. I most likely got used to it, and it was my first character. But I like his lumbering meander, my min height asura just seems too panicy.
I tend to look at it as the Norn having a “gear” between a walk and a run that lets them travel long distances without having to stop. That being said I can see how it would irritate some people.

Yes jogging… faceplam for not think of that.
I just picked up the game recently and yeah the Norn and Char running animation seems odd and terribly slow. But if I may offer a solution, why not increase the running speed for every race, let’s say 15-25%? It would be more than enough and if you think that would inbalance the game, well almost everyone I’ve seen, who has some kind of a passive speed increase uses it anyway. Just take that passive skill/trait or whatever out and put it into the game by default. Problem solved. As of now I just can’t play these races. It’s painful.
It’s one of the reasons that my only norn is not max size. I set him at 50% max height and I’m pretty happy with the movement animation. Which says a lot considering my main in a perma-swiftness asura.

All races run at the exact same speed (without buffs/traits). Of course a max size Norn will look like she’s running “slower” than Asura – they need to take 10 steps where the Norn take 1 step.
Its almost like putting a horse next to a human. The horse doesnt have to put much effort into running as fast as a human flailing his legs like a madman and the horse will look far more graceful doing it.
So yes, I consider my trotting female Norn having more grace than any of the… lesser races.
