So what did your guardian spirit choice actually affect?
It changed your 1-10 story quest.
On my Guardian, I chose Wolf as my spirit, and my storyline involved solving the question of why Minotaurs had recently become so violent (the first part of the quest very neatly tied into the “stop the rampaging Minotaur” event near Bear Shrine, actually).
I’m guessing your story was not so much about minotaurs?
EDIT: I know choosing Raven has something to do with collecting steel, too.
Nope, your 1-10 story is determined by your choice on what your most important quality is (strength to defeat foes, etc. etc.) Your choice of guardian spirit has zero impact on that.
Near as I can tell, the only thing this impacts is some minor NPC dialogue in Hoelbrak. In particular, the “Speaker” of your particular choice will have a different introduction.
I’m nearly to Arah and I’ve yet to see any indication that I chose Snow Leopard as my guardian spirit.
The third question doesn’t affect anything for any race. Human god, Charr warband body, Sylvari time of waking, Asura mentor, Norn spirit…
They do nothing. Purely for the aesthetic influence on the first piece in your “My Story” tab, and for those who like to RP. Well, there might be changes in a small handful of talk options here and there, but those are hard to find.
You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.
Actually, the choice for the charr warband buddy has a very large impact on their story, as it determines the NPC that will be following you around in your story steps. This results in a lot of unique dialogue, as well as one unique cutscene in the Charr’s third arc depending on who you chose.
It’s just that the third question does nothing for anyone else.
Maybe that’s why I was confused, as I have a Charr alt and can see my warband buddy hanging out with me on story quests.
I can’t even remember what my guardian spirit choice was! That’s how much of an impact it has had on my character.
When I am fighting, my norn dude regularly shouts “Feel Bears Power!” I have always thought this is cos of that choice. Is this the same for everyone?
Desolation
It affects your skill tree very slightly. All Norn have a were-thing skill as an Elite skill. Not sure if it’s 10 or 30 points, but it nets you a transforming skill that turns you into a Norn/(Spirit Animal) form to let you wreck enemies.
What is steampunk without a lot of steam, and a little punk?

except for the fact everyone and their brother can get Snow Leopard

Really cause I chose the Raven and I had to determine why the Minotaurs were all rampaging and free the Minotaurs spirit. There where no collecting steel that I can remember.

Yeah, it’s already been said that that was a different choice, it was my mistake :p
