My norn got into a discussion with an NPC in Hoelbrak about the Spirits of the Wild. pparently when the four Spirits of the Wild (Bear, Wolf, Snow Leopard and Raven) led the norn to safety, while another four (wolverine, owl, ox and eagle) stayed behind to battle Jormag.
Owl has been declared dead, the others are missing.

Do you believe they will or would you like to see the missing spirits return in a future expansion? With perhaps the possibility of a high level personal story mission that allows your character to “attune” with one of them and gain another shape changing ability?

Just to confuse you even further. There’s also apparently a Wurm Spirit who just got lost in the exodus. It’s mentioned, but never clarifued whether it stayed or went south.

I think the only one that was officially declared as dead was owl.

I found a spot where the Owl statue was. Out in Lornar’s Pass I think.

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!

Not likely.

The Norn honor the spirit of Owl through their racial “call Owl” ability, just as they honor Issormir with the Wurm summon.

There’s also a shrine in Hoelbrak where the fallen spirits are honored, Owl foremost among them.

Yup, only owl is confirmed dead. At least according to both wiki and ingame npcs

“What comes next is an assault on the senses. A flurry of feathers, a scream into the maw of oblivion, a creeping coldness. But one sensation towers over them all- Hope”

I can’t help but think Owl will be back somehow, perhaps the day that we defeat Jormag is the day Owl is reborn.

Warmaster Forgal also mentioned a Dolyak spirit I think.

From my understanding most creatures have an associated spirit of the wild, the norn don’t really worship all of them to the same degree they do the main four. In wayfarer foothills there’s the “bunny worshipers” who, in an event chain actually manage to summon a jackalope. Amusing thought it may be it’s still quite a feat and does point to the spirit of hare actually being real and having a degree of power. Likewise in one of the early norn personal storylines you also meet the Minotaur spirit.

I have met the bunny worshipers but have not had the pleasure of doing that event.
My story is the Minotaur one as well.
I understand that some spirits (the main four) have a stronger significance for the norn culture and possibly a more keen interest in guiding the norn. But would not Owl be equaly significant through his/her sacrifice?

AFAIK Dolyak and Bull are two names for the same Spirit.

No, both dolyak and bulls exist in the world, so there is both a Dolyak and a Bull spirit.

The Norn’s vision of the world seems to jive closely to Plato’s allegory of the cave—that there is one perfect version of everything (in the Norn’s case, Spirits), and that everything else is a copy based on that original mold. I can’t recall if I read or imagined that they believed in spirits of things like mountains or elements, but what we do know is that if there is an animal, the Norn believe in that animal’s Spirit of the Wild.

EDIT: This is one reason that the Norn alone have those who will voluntarily follow the Elder Dragons—Jormag has a lot of the powers expected of Spirits of the Wild, in that it can control those in its own image (much as the Spirit of Minotaur incites minotaur rampages in response to the sacrifices being made), and it can grant great power to those who worship it (just as many other Spirits of the Wild can do).

I’d love to find out what happened to the missing spirits and maybe even owl.

Owl’s story made me a little teary, I’ll admit.
