Preferrably spoiler free or low spoilers.

Just curious what people have thought of the three paths available to Norns. Good? Bad? Did the writing make you cringe? Or were you sucked in by the storytelling? Do you wish you’d taken another path? Something in between?

Getting drunk is probably my favorite personal story I have done so far. Ancient Artifact is cool. Also fight and ancient foe. I have not done got in a fight. I did defend the spirits and protect the mists in beta but I don’t remember them much. working on replaying them. But hands down – getting drunk!!

I liked how part of it can be in the normal map and not everythin is instanced like other personal stories.
I liked the whole deal with spirits.
I didn’t like Eir Stegalkin playing the teacher. “Hi, I am a legend and if you listen to me, you can be a legend too!”
“Ok, now we know what the sons of Svanir are up to. You can either do plan a) or plan b). But you have to choose; Legends need to learn to make choices.”
And the last bit is an actual quote…

‘Got in a Fight’ has a pair of brutal boss fights, and some others that are challenging but not unreasonable. The writing had nothing glaringly bad, and everything seemed “norn-ish”.

I liked most of it,but towards the end it started to become a drag with the risen, and the very last mission was pretty much dissapointing,it felt rushed for some reason, and the way we defeated zaithan..mweh..I also dont really feel like the hero of tyria in this game, unlike in gw1,i feel like a puppet conrolled by someone more important then me and me doing the dirty work for him. When the mission was over and i got my awesome lvl 24 – 26 rewards..i just stood there thinking..well..this was lame, and actually quit soon after.

Defending the spirits was boring and repetitive. Getting drunk was fun and like my own personal version of The Hangover. Haven’t done any of the other Norn stories yet.

Having played all of the Norn stories by now…

The writing for the Norn isn’t as good for the Charr, but that’s because the Charr got the best stories overall. The Norn stories felt a little disjointed, and having Eir as our mentor is a mixed bag. She’s not a BAD character, so much as she’s barely a character at all because she’s easily the mentor with the least personality.

On the other hand, the “Blacked Out” line has some very humorous dialogue and is good if you want some comedy, and the “Lost an Heirloom” line has probably the strongest writing in the Norn stories. You also get to do a lot of stuff in the Shiverpeaks and Ascalon, which is good because Sons of Svanir and Flame Legion are much more interesting to fight than bandits, and less annoying than the CC-happy Nightmare Court or Inquest.

I wasn’t really disappointed, though.

Maybe I was doing it wrong, but the difficulty level in the minotaur storyline was off the charts for me. I felt kind of like Sisyphus, flinging myself at mobs in hopes of whittling down their numbers before they killed me again. I’ve just barely started the rivalry storyline, partly because I’m afraid it’s going to turn out that difficult again for me.

I am STILL stuck on silent warfare. This is infuriating and a total waste of gold with all the damaged armour I’m getting out of this.

I’ve only done “protect the spirits” and “passed out at the moot”, and I really enjoyed both. Together they were a very interesting contrast and summary of what norn are like. Not to mention that “passed out” cracked me up despite the fact that I never drink IRL.

And what really made me cheer is how in that story, our character freely admits to having screwed up and vows to fix it. Seriously, that alone is so rare. Usually our oh-so-incredibly-special-and-awesomely-godlike-Chosen-One-superheroes (and GW2 is otherwise guilty of singing that tired old tune, too) don’t make mistakes, much less have to own up to them. If anything bad happens, it’s someone else’s fault! And anyway we were soooo misunderstood and the others were just afraid and jealous of our ZOMG Specialness, so they deserved it. Yeah. Where’s my sarcastic eye-roll smilie?

That little bit in the “passed out” story had much more actual maturity in it than any ten would-be adult games full of boobs and gore, and I love the story for that.

I have to say, the Norn make me happy. It’s a shame everyone shares dialogue once the paths merge, because up until that point, Norn characters have absolute confidence in themselves, and it’s hilarious to see your character not give two kitten what they’re about to fight, they are going to win and there is nothing that can change that.

It’s an entire race of people who speak like Superman if he had Batman’s confidence.

And then the converged story turns all the races to srsface. I am sad =(

I asked two friends to get that done… felt not very personal when I have to ask friends to get that done.

I took Guardian of the Spirits and Revenge as my first two story arcs. Guardian of the Spirits was okay, nothing too fancy. I liked Revenge (I expected not much, because the other two choices also sounded not very interesting to me), but maybe it should have been named Championship, since it was more about winning a championship than about taking revenge.

Gotta be honest, when I did the rival one, I was really hoping for one of my other characters to turn out to be the rival. Other than that having Eir be the teacher kinda came out of nowhere. I like her though, so it’s fine.

The ultimate weapon line was really fun – I just wished it went on longer. The getting drunk one made me laugh a few times but again I wanted them to go for longer and be integrated or dispersed throughout the personal story not just a single segmented block.
