I know some of you think the new mustache is awesome because its ridiculous.
Obviously its intended to be a joke and not serious, as it’s even drawn poorly/ fake looking compared to the “real” options.

I feel these sort of silly additions are marketing ploys probably concocted by the sales team (new options= hairstyle makeover kit sales) but ultimately hurt the feel and lore of the game (i.e. plush backpacks, Asuras with bright pink afros, giant handle bar mustaches) and represents exactly what I hated about WoW.

Might as well throw in some Night Elf Mohawk Grenades…..

There is no lore against Norn having giant moustaches, chill out and stop worrying about other people’s characters.

Quite the contrary, norn’s with awesome facial hair is a common thing. It’s fairly uncommon to be clean shaven. You’re either young or quite the gentleman for a norn.

Mayhaps a caster class. That said, the handle bar mustache is quite classy in itself. That’s a lot of grooming and up keep.

But obviously worth it.

I am a huge fan of facial hair and have two level 80 Norn both proudly displaying their beards. There is nothing lore wise against Norn having mustaches and in fact there is already a Mustache option that fits quite nicely.

However, a ridiculously over sized handle bar mustache does not fit with Norn/ Viking lore and is more reminiscent of 19th century fashion such as the old west with charatcers like Wyatt Earp and such than medieval vikings.

The only reason I suspect it’s been thrown in is because there has been a trend in the last few years with handle bar Mustahces in various TV commercials, ilustrations, and novelty items for its comical relief value as its quite silly by modern standards. I don’t blame ANet for trying to make money but its an obvious attempt to capitalize on this trend since there are always players who enjoy looking ridiculous as possible because it amuses them.

If they added a too too in the gem store I guarantee someone would use it and claim its justified for their 9 foot tall Norn zerker warrior but it doesn’t mean it belongs in the game imo.

If it’s town clothes, I don’t care. I think he’s hilarious and knows how to party hard. I would if we had to deal with that in combat.

Yay, we agree.

I wouldn’t mind so much if we had some better serious styles. It’s all weird partially shaved styles and over the top braids. I just want normal chin-length beard, like the facial hair icon at character creation.

This reminds me of the time I made a black, dreadlocks Norn Thief and someone gave me grief over it being ridiculous and out of place.

Play and let play. Nothing stops you from playing your characters the way you wish, role playing them in your head, etc. I role play mine as well, but don’t give a darn about other people’s choices-as well as I shouldn’t.

Norn may be based on Viking lore (honestly, I don’t even remember if the devs mentioned this-perhaps they did), but they are not humans, true Vikings, or from Norway/Finland/etc. They are their own fantasy giant race, and there’s no reason to complain about skin/eye/hairstyle other than being close-minded and enforcing one’s views on others as if they were “the law” and “the right way to play” (did Vikings have purple/violet/pink eyes?-because some of the lore Norn do…)

To be fair, a player could realistically role play his/her Asura with a pink afro if that’s what he/she desires. I wouldn’t do it, but it may be a real choice in his/her ideal fantasy world.

Did you all forget Braham exists or what? Borje the Sun Chaser? Dark skinned Norns are normal.

Norn’s loosely follow a viking nordic theme. Among others.

These themes are not set in stone standards for them to adhere to. They can and they do take liberty to do their own thing with their races and characters.

Norns are norns. Not vikings.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never understood complaints about lore/immersion breaking when we have the Asura who are basically the result of giving the great scientific minds in history access to magic.

Not to mention when we’re able into battle wearing stuff like this

Yet I never see complaints about skimpy armor…………but by god our facial hair had best be realistic!

It was a little odd seeing dark skinned Norns in GW2 after every single Norn you encounter in GW1 is Caucasian, but eh, I’m not fussed about it. Maybe they were all off lurking where we couldn’t see them, like female Charr.

No one is forcing you to wear the mustache. If you are so bothered by seeing it, join an RP community or something. No one who RPs seriously will be wearing the mustache unless they are chaotic evil (mya-ha-ha!).

And the mohawk grenades in WoW had an effect that could be instantly cancelled.

All I would need is the proper attire to go with the mustache, then I would run away with the circus. Kinda classic, hehe.

I’d rather have they come up with some new hairstyles,beards for norn.I mean..if you got the time to create something this ridiculous,you also got the time to create the same but Realistic and not out of proportion looking mustaches/beards/hairstyles.

I think it is a little too much, yes. They could have made it smaller…

I made a bald norn thief last night, as small height-wise as he can be but as broad as possible, dark skinned with red tattoos and a ginger moustache, couldn’t be happier with my weird creation.

I like how the moustache is still visible when he wears his hood!

That said I hold absolutely zero regard for the lore of this game.

Norn are loosely based on scandenavian culture, mustaches like the one people are complaining about aren’t to uncommon really.

If you’re truly mad about this, why aren’t you complaining about, say, Norn Engineers or Mesmers? They don’t exactly fit the viking motiff going on. You need to remember, Norn are no longer a singular culture anymore in the same way that Charr aren’t (or else we wouldn’t have, say, Evon Gnashblade).

Because armor that exposes more than conceals is realistic?

When people are at war, they need some things to lighten the mood at some point.

As an Icelander (aka a “real” viking), can people please stop “defending” my race like they’re part of it? Nordox doesn’t seem to know what the kitten they’re talking about by getting all offended about moustachio’d male Norns and comparing them to my ancestry. It’s a game and they’re loosely based on my culture, not a carbon copy. Do the mispelt Nordic names bother me sometimes from a language syntax standpoint? Sure…but it’s just a game.
