Why are there body types NPCs have that players can't have?
The NPCs really let themselves go with age, however us heros need to be fit enough to defeat the elder dragons!
I have been championing the cause for more “rubenesque” female figures. I have seen some rather nice norn BBWs, that I think would be great as player bodies too, but so far no dice.
Come on ANet, show the big girls some love please…. norn and human!

Being heavier doesn’t always mean less fit.

As a larger person I feel kind of uncomfortable when people use the term BBW.
That said, yeah, they really do need to add more variety. Humans definitely have it worse than the norn. The thinness of most of the option kind of disturbs me.
Eh, it’s already come a long ways imo, in some of the early betas the current “medium” body build for female norn was as beefy as you could go. And besides norn have way more actual build variety than those fragile human women who’s body options amount to different combinations of waist and bust sizes.

I have to agree with this. When some of the vendors look nicer and more robust than the players that’s telling of a system.
Oh Karma vendor in the Norn starting area, don’t you see that tall Norn Necro doesn’t need that much basil? He wants more, he wants…
I seemed to have gone off on a tangent. Sorry. lol
These bigger NPCs are fat… They have bellies. Look enough and you’ll see.
It’s the same as the last body types.

OP is talking about the Females. There is a female NPC body type that you can’t use.
I’m guessing it’s because it clips with certain armors, but it still sucks we can’t use it.
The physiques went through a lot of iteration, why I can’t say. The “large” body type that some NPCs have was available for PC’s in BWE 2 (and the lower-left “skinny” option was nonexistant), and in BWE 3 the top right physique (very slightly buffer then the default) was the beefiest option period. Personally I don’t like the skinny option, makes me look like nothing more then a really tall human, but overall I think they’ve found a decent middle ground between the various things they had been trying.

No, it wasn’t. The largest female Norn NPC body was never available to players in any BWE or stress test.
I’d not mind a few more body type options for Humans and Norn in particular a properly plump one. However, if i remember correctly, the devs were on the record at one point way back as saying there would not be any “fat” Player Characters due to clipping problems with armor meshes.
my character has the exact same height and physique of a Norn Guardian NPC
I’ve seen many norn female NPCs with a thicker body type than the thickest option for a player character in the creation screen. Why is this? Can you please add it? I really like this body type, and find the current selection kind of generic and “spot the difference”-y.
I totally agree. I’ve been pointing out those exact NPCs as pretty much my favourite look ever in a video game – so powerful! There are some mods for Skyrim that can get close, but it requires a complete re-design in armour, and I’m guessing that’s the problem here too.

I agree. I realize they may have limited our body selection for clipping reasons, but it would be worth the extra effort to add in more heavy, and more realistic, body types.
This is a major social issue that plagues women in the western world—the media only showcases women who are underweight, or who have a rare body type that enables them to be rail thin. As a result, underweight women are regarded as normal and beautiful, while the average healthy woman is dismissed as “fat”, “disgusting”, and “without worth”. Because of this, eating disorders, depression, and anxiety are becoming more frequent among women and girls every year. If Guild Wars 2 allowed us to have both more ordinary builds for women, and more hefty builds, it wouldn’t only be giving more variety to the players. It would also be combating a big social problem that harms real women.
