so i made a badazz norn warrior, thinking about the great vikings and all that.. and it looked awesome and all, i was happy.

then i typed /dance and let me tell you something…
now, i realize its a dance emote and its for fun and stuff.. but there is a difference between silly that is funny and kinda cool that actually FITS the race, and there is silly that makes you MAYBE laugh once from how pathetic it is, and the rest of the time get ticked off from not having a cool dance while your friends do a /dance party and looking cool (humans have the freakin shuffle, man!!!)

i can’t even /dance without ppl laughing at me and if i wanted to dance while ppl point and laugh, i’d go dancing in real life!

now, im sure a lot of people (Who are norn) will agree with me, so im making this as both a petition to remove the current dance, and also a suggestion thread so ppl can post their dance videos as a suggestion for a replacement.

I like the Norn dance a lot better than the human dance. The only dance that ins’t inherently funny is the Sylvari dance.

Yeah seriously lichy, i main a sylvari and their dance is AWFULL. Norn dance is the 2nd best dance after humans

just watched a video of all the dances (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hk0xZqUuNNk) and its like this:

humans – shuffle. looks pretty good, pretty cool.. fits with the race somewhat.

norns – carlton dance.. when he does it, its good and looks funny and stuff. when the player does it… not so much. also part of what makes the dance good is carlton moving around the room, and stuff. if it fits the race? NO! its pure silly and the dance rlly doesn’t fit norns.. maybe humans. so IMHO the dance is kinda horrible

charr – maori haka… umm.. yeah thats kinda lame i admit. barely a dance. but it fits the race at least :\

asura – the robot.. fits the race, not that horrible looking but kinda stale. especially without the music.

sylvari – bhangra dance? well yeah thats just terrible. without the music it looks like the player is having a seizure or something.. not sure it fits the race.. probably not.. not sure what is this dance either tho :X

so.. it looks like we need to upgrade some of the races with a new dance :P maybe offer ppl the chance to buy new dance moves with the gem store and stuff. MONEY!!!

It made me sad that the youtube video was prefaced by an ad for WoW MoP

To me, the human dance is the best one. Asura was ok, but the movements all seemed too small or something, which maybe makes sense, but it would have been nice to see something bigger.

I don’t like the others much. Not a huge deal, since they’re just fun additions, but still.

Lichy’s idea of buying dances with gems is awesome — I would buy one if I liked it — heck I would probably buy the human dance for my poor, sad Norn.

Agreed. Personally? Not to be hipster, but the shuffle sucks, I know it was a thing before LMFAO existed, but they killed it.

Sylvari dance? Weird at first. But I like it now. Norn Dance? Eeeeh. I don’t hate it. But I wouldn’t complain if they changed it. Charr? No opinion. Asura? Pretty good.

This is the second game now where the race I chose gets the Carlton dance… (first game was Rift).

It’s silly but I don’t really care. It’s not like people will see my real life dancing skills (or lack thereof).

I loved that it was the Carlton dance, recognized it immediately and laughed so hard my husband came rushing in to see what made me shout. Perhaps because it’s still one of my favourite shows of all time? I don’t know. But I do love it. I like that touch of silly.

My husband often AFKs his human dancing- the dance in addition to the sounds his character makes (as if he thinks he’s so cool)… love it.

And the Charr Haka? EPIC. I thought it was a brilliant choice! A strong, challenging warrior’s dance for a warrior culture.

The only thing that bothers me about the dance is that the animation doesn’t do justice to the real carlton dance

Personally I like the Carlton for my Norn! I like all the dances, although I think being able to buy dances would be a cool idea. Maybe you should post that in the suggestion thread.

Norn’s dance is the best in the game, so don’t carp. =) Norn’s dance on of the main reasons for me, to choose norn as a main.

Next time you get drunk at a moot (and I mean Norn type drunk) see how you dance :P

It’s more obvious on male norn. On my female norn, it just looks like some odd dance from the ’30s.

Hope that dance vendor opens soon. She needs a smoother dance animation.

The other day I was talking to a friend about this very thing in Lion’s Arch. We were comparing the different races’ cultures and the overall ‘vibe’ we get from them. From a pure sociological standpoint, barring inherent stereotypes, I felt that things were best stated when … I whistled for a cab and when it drew near, the license plate said “fresh” and it had dice in the mirror.

Techno Viking dance for males, Super Tectonic Dance for females.

so many would agree that techno viking for norn would be ace, at least for males.

Ya know, the thing that disappoints me most about the norn dance is that you can’t do it when you’ve transformed into an animal.

But yeah… the Carlton just doesn’t suit the Norn. In fact, the Carlton doesn’t suit anyone other than Carlton. It’s iconic. It just loses it’s appeal when it’s not performed by it’s originator.

I love doing the Running Man IRL (at totally random and inappropriate times) so I’m rather jealous of how awesome the human male dance is. I’m definitely throwing in my hat for a new Norn dance.

I feel that this dance was a terrible choice for the Norn. It does NOT fit culturally, and just makes them look… well, dorky.

btw, i fell inlove with haka, its rlly badazz :\ but in the game (and any game.. yeah im looking at you LoL!) it doesn’t do it much justice because:
1) it is done alone.. you can’t do a haka alone, it looks silly.
2) no sounds. part of the haka is the sound. the body slaps, the chant.. so all you get is awkwardly looking charr

I may have to rethink releveling a warrior (Norn female) and just keep going with my male human…At least he’s got his dance, laugh, and crazysexy Roman armor.

My hope is eventually (perhaps during holiday events like LOTRO did it) we will be able to learn the other racial dances, and perhaps have new ones added in as well.

Also, for people who think the charr dance is lame, I thought the same thing when I saw the dance video the first time, till I went and did some research. The ONE thing that would make the charr dance perfect would be to time the “grunts” of the dance (not even words) into the cadence of the actual haka. Much love for the Kiwis and this awesome dance

I don’t know but everytime anyone dances in guild wars 2 I have to pinch myself to make sure it all has not been a dream this whole time still… the idea that BOTH genders have the same dance to begin with?

The Charr being my favourite race by a very long shot… their end of the stick is just as miserable and short, oh my god does it pain me so.

I’ll just add that I have a friend who often carries a character accross from other games he is human and his name is “Manlius” and I wont go into it much but lets just say that the bottom line of the concept of this character is masculinity and testosterone. When he went /dance for the first time (and might I add it was also the last time) he had to go and lie down for a few hours and vomit into a bucket.

Lol! this post suddenly feels a tad judgemental all of the sudden but I’m barely exaggerating. They are mostly just that bad, ok some dances sort of suit some of the races but its only ONE of the genders when this happens.

Over all I just wanna know what happened to all the other cool options? Like /flute /guitar and other stuff I cant remember from GW1?!? That stuff was great, I guess they will add more dances soon enough but these original ones were just… terrible. I am sorry! but… absolutely miserably bad. I can’t retract that one bit.

Their first suggestion, made me ask “kitten did I just watch”

Their second suggestion was awesome, but would have looked as wooden and fail as the haka on charr.

Sylvari dance is animated well but fails, norn dance is epic cos of it’s reference, human dance is AMAZING, asura’s is ok, charr’s suck

rasputin dance was pretty epic :P tho i’d still prefer a techno viking for obvious reasons.
