Welcome to the game! And good job picking the BEST race!

You can fit ele into norn lore in many ways. I myself have a norn elementalist (and norn ranger, guard, thief…) I went with a shaman-esque feel worshipper of Raven. Raven is good if you want to go with something with a more scholarly feeling I suppose. I have also known some who choose Bear because eles can be seen as raw individual power?

I mean really, the nice thing with the lore here is it can be bent pretty well. I’ve seen some people argue that thieves and necros make no sense for norn. There was a great blog story about a norn thief who worshiped Snow Leopard a while back. I have seen plenty of norn necro NPCs in game (IIRC, the raven havroun is a necro.)

I would say that any race and class is doable if you put some thought into it. The lore here is expansive and can be shaped easily to fit what you’d like.

Edit: Some images! Heck, I forgot there is a norn ele wallpaper as well.

Absolutely. Norn can pick and choose which aspects of which spirit they choose to take lessons from. And those lessons are not only basic lessons because each spirit encompasses the entire qualities of the animals they represent. So Wolf is about strength in numbers but Wolf is also about loyalty, ferocity, and tracking prey. So there is some overlap among the different Spirits.

e.g.: Raven represents cunning, trickery and knowledge while Minitaur represents strength and savage cunning. Bear represents fortitude, self reliance and might. Dolyak is strength and perseverance. Lot’s of overlap between them. And as I said earlier, many norn pick and choose which lesson to let guide them from whichever spirit is convenient at the time. Even though they may favor one or another.

edit: Snow leopard represents independence, strategy, and laughter in the face of danger and is considered to be stealthy and solitary. So a warrior can easily encompass all but stealth but even stealth can fit a warrior if they fit a certain archtype. Similar to my charr Ash Legion warrior. The warrior may be an ambush predator which would fit Bear just as neatly as it fits Snow Leopard. As both are [solitary/self reliant].

Yup, and pretty much what Dustfinger said. While you could see Snow Leopard for a ranger, I actually picked Wolf for mine. Loyalty, ferocity, strength in numbers… all that jazz.

On page 4 in this forum I have a “what’s your spirit totem and why?” thread that I adored reading (wish it had more replies.) It was really cool to see how some people viewed their norn in the lore and associated it with one of the Spirits. Just a perfect example that pretty much anything can be done if you think on it.

Norns are very flexible, the main goal of one is to become a legend among them, but how you’ll do it is by your own, using magic, necromancy, stealth, melee, long range, gadgets, doesn’t matter.
Look that Norn in Hoelbrak near the Keg Brawl vista, he wants to be known by counting snow flakes

In this regard GW2 lore is much more friendly than most mmos. The profession is called Elementalist, which related to the elements. The kind of relation the race have with the elements can vary without nulifing the profession itself. Similarly you have the Guardian, which is like a Paladin of sort, but Paladin would bring the notion of church, human, and all that. A Guardian on the other hand can draw power from any kind of righteous power. Same for every profession. None of them suggests race specific or invalid race possiblity.
