I anted to make a norn necro or mesmr because I have a charr thief,
human ranger, asura warrior, and I like the ida of a norn shamen type of guy somewhat would make more sense? and if he’s a necro his guid will be raven if Mesmer it will be wolf

hears my advice Dracis, why not both? if one or the other, i would choose mesmer (no bias to my main char at all there) but both are cool

Tbh, I would choose necro. For me a necro fits the shaman type very well. I got a norn mesmer but I never leveled her because I never could find a way to think out how and why she is using her magic in a “nornish” way. But in the end it’s your own personal decission.

Btw it would be great to hear some ideas how people think that the mesmer fit into the norn culture or whats the idea behind their norn mesmer. Maybe I can warm to mine a bit more.

I would do Mesmer. Niether really fit to me (I would do ele but thats not a choice).

Both fit very well on the spiritual side of the race. However, most vocations are entirely possible in a socieity of individuals, particularly considering the mingling of races in the lore now of late.

Disregarding that, there are a few examples in game as well as some logical connections to be made in the case of norn magic users, whether they are reaching into the mists or just generally pay homage a particular spirit; mesmer for example makes a lot of sense for a snow leopard shaman, and necro for a raven shaman, but that’s just one choice – there’s a raven shaman mesmer ingame, for example, and I don’t think all norn magic users are formally titled as shaman.

I’ve written it in another thread but my main motivation for my norn mesmer from a ‘reason’ standpoint is that she was fascinated by the reflection of light and the manipulation of it, and mirages and snowblinds from the snowy environs. If all else fails, I suppose there could always be some kind of reason to be found in the bottom of a drinking horn…

I did a norn as a necro. I wanted a necro, but was trying to choose a race. I already have an asura/charr mesmers and had a hard time justifying the norn. But the Necro Norn seemed logical. I like her, big, bold, in your face chick who can take care of business and look good out on the town for a night of drunken debauchery.

I have a Norn mesmer Raven shaman. I think that makes excellent sense, since Raven symbolizes trickery and guile.

You can always justify a Norn.

Either can make sense as a Norn. Just consider the character as a different aspect of Raven, or takes a specific part of Raven’s teachings to heart and leaves out the other ones.

Both Mesmer and Necromancer make use of Raven’s teachings, but Necromancer fits more of the battle-hardened, darkness-shaman type.

Butterflies just don’t suit Norn very well. My opinion. (But then again, I’m someone who rolled a CHARR Mesmer…)

I believe necro goes better with norns. You know, they being shamans, talking with the spirits, and the like.

I can imagine a norn that can’t speak with the spirits, choosing mesmer to cheat on believers, and make them think that some illusions are actually spirits. XD
