When he gets ready to waggle his tongue, I always make sure I have Toad King targeted. He opens his mouth, I throw and… NOTHING happens. He does his tongue sweep and carries on.

I can’t finish the guy because something is up. Anyone else struggling here?

I had this happen to me twice when killing him. You have to click on his mouth once he opens them. Then you will target the toad not his jewl. If you have him pre-targeted, you will just hit his jewl with the jewl piece that you are throwing.
You will notice that if you target him “correctly”, over his life bar there will be a different picture of him (a toad instead of a red thingie, which I suppose is a jewl).
