Could a re-skinned legendary stat-swap?

Supposing I made one for the hell of it, but don’t like how excessive legendary skins are, could I transmute another skin onto it and keep that function? Or would this break it like transmuting its skin onto other stats?
I have like… 60 mystic clovers and >250 obsidian shards, but I don’t like legendaries, and I seriously doubt the new ones will be any less sparkle-factories than the old ones.

It should, but I’m not certain.
But I’m wondering why you’d pay over 800 gold to get a legendary weapon that has a unique skin on then remove the unique look of it.
If you really wanted to, why not buy a bag slot and a bag and stick whatever stat weapons you want in it? It’d be less money and less work than making a legendary demands.

They said on the stream that they’re sending an item with the update than can separate the legendary from the other item you transmuted it with; you can then change the stats on the legendary.
After that, you can probably re-transmute it and keep the new stats you changed it too. But it’s likely you’ll have to de-transmute it each time you want to change the stats, since a transmuted legendary item is different from a legendary.

In cases of other gear, the “rarity” of a transmuted item previously (before an update which standardized its visuals) gained the rarity of the stats, not the skin. Though now the rarity is listed as “Transmuted” and the item name color is that of the highest rarity used. So hard to say.
@Obvious Shizzel: He’d be doing such after the update, so that he can get the skin he wants, but with the Legendary’s stat-changing effect.
