It’s probably just me and I apologize if there’s a topic about this already, but every time I try to dodge jump I get nothing… I spent nearly half an hour jumping off really high trees attempting the dodge jump and it’s never worked… Spacebar > V is how you do it, right? Maybe I’m doing something wrong? Anyone else have issues with dodge jumping? Is it only possible in certain levels?

I assume that you are also running forward when you hit the combination of keys? Other than a timing issue on hitting the actual buttons this is only other thing you would be missing.

It’s not easy to time, there’s a matter of input and other stuff, but it might be easier if you assign the dodge key to middle mouse button (the scroll button), so then you press space+M3+W (otherwise you’ll roll backwards) at the same time. Try do it on normal land first, it’s easier to notice when it happens. And it’s also less pressure.
It doesn’t 100% work for me either though, sometimes it rolls backwards, sometimes it doesn’t do the jump etc.

You are supposed to produce the input at the very same time with very little leeway between the two.
I’ve tested that you have to hit them with less than 20-30 milliseconds of difference for it to work.
As a reference, when in fast-paced fighting games you have to press two buttons at the same time, the leeway between the two to be considered a simultaneous button press is usually between 100 and 250millisecons.

This means that something like having a finger colder or hotter will be enough to prevent you from doing it, as colder fingers press keys faster since they are less plastic.

Your keyboard will also affect the outcome. A spring getting softer as it gains heat over use would be enough to break the sync.

Because of how small the leeway is, you can try it a hundred times and do exactly the same, and unless you use some sort of macro — which goes against the rules and could get you banned — you may get from 100/100 to none at all, regardless of how skilled you are in using the controls.

I remember some post saying they’ll look into fixing this to be more reliable, but judging from the facts that they gave 99 lives to players, added a gemstore infinite continue coin that there’s no achievement for completing world 2 without dying, it looks like they are expecting people to die a whole lot. So it’s more probable that they will leave that frustrating random death-jump rather than fixing it so it has a reasonably responsive behavior.

It is supposed to work like a slide input where you jump first and then immediately dodge. In my experience though, timing them is not reliable at all, and pressing both buttons simultaneously has a better chance of producing the move. If the dodge registers first, then you’ll fail, but if you’re fairly close with your presses, you’ll have ~50% chance to succeed or fail which is better than trying to time the jump to happen first because an intentional delay is almost always going to be too long.

lag also interrupts the sync of this, so even if you have a macro that does both jump and dodge at the same time, it may not register one or the other commands.

Add ontop of that what MithranArkanere said, it makes it an iffy move. Most of the time I can produce this with about an 80% success rate, so its not bad, but annoying when it doesn’t go.

Thanks everyone. I was hitting W as well, yes, but I tried it without also thinking that maybe that’s why it wasn’t working. I will practice some more and will also use the middle mouse button suggestion. I was hitting them in a sequence and not simultaneously, so I’ll try that too. I appreciate all of the suggestions, you were all very helpful. Last time I checked, my latency was ~120 MS. I have a Razer Lycosa keyboard if that means anything positive or negative in dodge jumping. I also read the move is not a necessity, but it seems like it would be helpful in some areas. Thanks again.

I can’t get it to work. 90 percent of the cases it fails… but then again I’m usually double tapping to dodge and have the jump on spacebar. Now walking with w, then pressing v and spacebar seems a bit hard and I’m too lazy to change key mapping. Also I have an old mouse not some gaming mouse with tons of buttons.

I just learned to do all the jumps without dodge jumping. Just completed everything up to World 2, Zone 2 Tribulation Mode without dodge jumping(thanks do Dulfy’s video guides).

Doing Zone 3 tomorrow and then waiting for news on the Master of Baubles.

What really helps while jumping: Try not to look at the location you are jumping to… then often you jump too early… just look at your char… and make sure he is jumping from the very edge.

I hit them both at the exact same time (space + v) and have never failed it. Just practice it while running around somewhere.

So to be clear, it isn’t jump then V, or jump then a real quick V, it is jump AND V at the same time.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

multi button mouse ftw, easier for me to dodge/jump then trying to hit 2 keys with same finger.

edit: lol I just went back and rebound v to dodge and tried it…actually really easy to do it this way, so I take my last statement back.

@ luthan Considering dodge jump by its nature removes your ability to stear for the duration you dont nessicaraly need your mouse hand on the mouse while executing a dodge jump as long as there is no time pressure. if W+V+Space is too hard to do one handed add a second key for your other hand to use for dodge. I’d recommend something over on the num pad just for ease of access.

I dont think I could pull a dodge jump off with doubletap however. I have about a 70% sucess rate but I’ve had dodge on my mouse back button for ages.

I have a Naga (best mouse investment ever) so no lack of buttons on the mouse to bind to. :P I have successfully dodge-jumped, yay!! About a 95% success rate (running around the hub dodge-jumping. people probably think im crazy.) so far. Thanks for tips, everyone. You all rock!

The only solution I’ve found to the problem of dodge-jumping with any consistency is practice, practice, practice. It does get easier, though with lag and such everyone’s bound to fumble every now and then.

I put my thumb on both key C (dodge) and Space so that the joint rests on the Space bar and the tip of my thumb lightly on the dodge key. When jumping, I time it like a normal jump with W as forward. The extra pressure on C allows a perfect dodge timing just right when the character is in mid air. Hope it helps.

it would be a much better quality of life improvement for the whole game, if Anet would make out of Dodge Jumps just an official move, that can be done via just 1 button press with mone of the so far unused buttons, like X or Y.

Less stress for us and our hands and better smoother working controls over our characters.

I can do dodge-jumps 100% of the time (if I have endurance ofcourse), by simply running around in any way i want and tapping V+space at the same time… just the same tap on spacebar as you would for just jumping.. but moving your thumb over V aswell.

Although this works 100% for me it won’t work for a lot of people simply because your keyboard doesn’t allow it. Many keyboards tend to have certain electrical circuits combined causing simultaneous input from more then 2 keys not to be received.

Solution better keyboard (many high quality gaming keyboards have a higher simultaneous input barrier)… but ofcourse this can be very pricey…

Therefore another method is using your mouse as the 3rd input.
e.g.: a button for dodge/jump or holding left and right mouse buttons to move forward…
another possibility is using autorun and then tapping jump+dodge (tho this makes it harder to aim)

I use my G600 mouse. I set both jump and doge to adjacent buttons in the side keyboard. Pressing them both at the same time doesn’t work every time.

I’ve gotten a bit better at dodge jumping myself over the last week, but it’s still a bit iffy if I’ll get it.

You really just have to hit jump and dodge at near the same time, which jump just slightly before.

Personally, I just wish they would remove it and let us jump a bit longer/higher normally.

I had to master dodge jump for tribulation mode, those thwomp rocks necessitated it. Basically anytime I know I’m going to need to use it I switch for controlling my movements with a combination of keyboard and mouse (W + Mouse 2 for camera control) to just clicking both mouse buttons to move forward and keeping the index finger on my left hand on the space and V buttons. I keep the tip on the V button and middle of my finger on the space bar. Works every time. I’m using a compaq presario pack-in keyboard that’s more than a decade old and severely worn, I’m fairly sure your hardware won’t be the deciding factor in learning how to use this glitch.

I used to not be able to dodge jump reliably. Then I spent a fair while dodge jumping around Rata Sum with constant vigor. Now I’ve done a speedrun filled with tons of dodge jumps. It’s still not 100% certain to work, but quite reliable.
And yeah, jump first then dodge after immediately. I use space + v.
