Hi,
I’m trying to get master of baubles. It looks like dodge jump is required ! I’m using dulfy video, got the first dodge-jump bauble using the whip before jumping near the platform, so I didn’t need dodge-jump.
But now I’m near the end, and there is another dodge jump. Don’t want to fail after hours in there.
http://youtu.be/8DtA6r1zKOg?t=45m7s
a) Is there another way to go to the yellow bauble ?
b) How is a dodge jump supposed to be done ? Since april and the first SAB sessions, I have tried every space/V/double tap combination and have never achieved one : dodge-jump seems to be a completely broken mechanic which only works for very few players … am I missing something ?
Thanks,
Eowyn
ps : Anet plz fix this jump so that it doesn’t require doge-jump anymore. Aaaaaannd award master of baubles world2 for free to anyone who has done all other bauble achivements : even without this stupid dodge-jump issue (I there is no way around I will not do the 3 hours run again); I bet that a lot of players missed this achievement because it was simply bugged for a too long time and they may not be able to play again before SAB is removed.
edit : Got it using TWO KEYBOARDS. As I said, this is a broken mechanic; I think a lot of players don’t have spare keyboards or ability to press keys on both at once.

I’m glad you got it. I just started doing dodge jumping with this latest version of SAB and I can mostly do it on demand but not always. I’ve always had my dodge button on C, but what I ended up doing was binding V as an alternate key. I was still having issues until I read someone say they leave the joint of their thumb on the space key and the tip of their finger on the V key. Then for me I have to mash somewhat quickly and hard and most of the time it works.

Depending on your keyboard changes the difficulty of pulling off a dodge jump.
On my old 10 dollar keyboard, I could pull them off flawlessly because the spacebar was slightly higher than the V button, making it a bit easier to do the jump. Now on my GW2 keyboard it’s a little bit harder because the spacebar is just a bit lower than the V button.
To do a dodge jump, you have to hit spacebar, then dodge immediatley. Practically simultaneously. I hit spacebar with my thumb first followed by hitting V with my index finger V. To practice, I’d just run around LA or something pulling off dodge jumps. It’s fun to dodge jump anyways. Hope this helps

I hit spacebar + v at the same time, press down rather hard when I do it. I do it kind of odd compared to most people, but I move my left ring finger to W, index finger to V and thumb on spacebar. It took me quite awhile to figure it out, too, but now that I’ve achieved it, I have about a 90% success rate. Using a Razer Lycosa keyboard. It was also suggested to me that you bind the dodge key to a mouse button instead of the keyboard. Dodge-jumps don’t always work for me, but more often than not, they do. I hope this helps.

You can macro that and probably get banned
I honestly do not understand why they require pressing 2 buttons simultaneously. It wont work if time gap between Jump and Dodge is more than 50ms, which is pretty much impossible for 99% human beings or just relies on a pure luck
The best way to do it to have a macro for dodge jump, but macros consisting of more than 2 actions are illegal
ANET please tell us – thats what you want us to do? ^^

If you guys can’t do it with 1 hand as it looks like everybody seems to try(V+spacebar), why don’t you just bind one of them to something you can hit with another hand? If you only have to do it for 1 jump then you can just get rid of that keybind when you’re done. You could also hit jump and then just spam click the endurance bar, then you wouldn’t need to rebind anything.

Just bind dodge to the mouse scroll wheel. Easy peasy. Dodge jump will never fail!

I think the problem a lot of people are having is that they are using two fingers.
You don’t need to, I just use my thumb, base on the space bar, tip on the V. As I go to press the V, the spacebar gets pushed as well, and so I dodge jump. It really isn’t all that hard.

I know the jump you’re talking about, OP. There might be another way around it (I didn’t go look), but I agree that if a dodge jump is required, that sets a poor precedent. There were a few jumps in TM that I had to learn how to dodge jump for, but TM is a whole different kettle of fish, so I’m willing to overlook that.

I have done TM before, didn’t need any dodge jump.

It’s not NEEDED, no, but there were a few jumps in W2Z2 TM that were much, much easier to get with a dodge jump.

The thing is that it’s needed here. It’s the only place in the entire SAB where a dodge jump is needed, which I found weird. Once on the top I looked around trying to find another way, but didn’t find any.

The problem is that you need to be pressing 3 buttons at the same time: forward, jump and dogde. My specific problem is that I use the same finger for dogde and jump. My solution that worked (not 100% accurate) is to press forward and jump as usual (with my left hand) and press dogde by clicking on the dogde yellow bar with the mouse on my right hand.
I agree with Aris that it is very weird that this is the only place I found a dogde roll required, as the bauble that is in the beginning of the zone (seen to require a dogde roll on Dulfy’s video) can also be reached by jumping from the baby cloud above and to its right.

to me, dodge jumping is kind of a “bonus” ability and is usually not required to make the jumps in SAB (or any jumping puzzles for that matter), even in TM. though, it will make some jumps easier, or have more buffer.
what’s easiest for me is i use my thumb and you want to hit spacebar, then kind of “roll off” into hitting V (binded dodge to this). and though i say “roll”, you do kind of want to hit it at the same time, but don’t hit dodge before jump. and sometimes it helps to hit it with a little deliberate force.
actually i take it back. dodge jump is easiest when i am not “counting on it”. i.e. when running around maps. then, when i expect to execute it to make a certain jump easier, i’ll usually just jump. or dodge to my death. XDDD

I never did a dodge jump before that master of baubles achievement either. Since I bound dodge to my 4th mouse button, I had to get the timing between left and right hand correct to make it work. Still can’t repeat it reliably, but took me maybe 10 minutes to finally get that bauble.

In all the times I’ve tried to dodge jump. I’ve only successfully pulled it off once with dismal results.
Ping is a factor since dodging locks up your character’s movements server side. There is a latency delay.
Therefore I hope dodge jumping is never accepted as the norm because it is not intended nor reliable.

Personally I hit Space and V simultaneously with my thumb (side of my thumb). I think it’s only ever not worked once.

The problem is Josh has stated that there is never a need for the dodge jump, which means there must be some other way up there. Fortunately I was able to do the jump (after several tries), but I would have been extremely kitten ed if I could never have got it (already had spend a good 3 hours, at least, in the map).

I looked for another way up for like 20 minutes, couldn’t find one. If there is another way, it must be pretty darn cryptic. Not that I’m the absolute best at finding jumps or anything, but there’s really not a whole lot of space to cover up there.
Unless there’s some way to get up from the other side of the mountain or something. Didn’t really look into that.
I know Josh said that dodge-jumping would never be required, but that might only be for stage completion. Maybe it doesn’t apply to baubble collection achieves and other “optional” things.

I bound dodge to my R key a long time ago, and with a fair amount of practice I have mostly perfected the dodge jump by pressing R and space simultaneously. I get it right about 95% of the time now.
Another way to do a long jump is to wait to jump until you’re running off the edge of the platform a bit. For me, this method is harder though, and I’m not sure if it works for this particular instance.

That’s how I usually handle long jumps. I’m much better at that method than dodge jumping, and it suffices just fine most of the time.
Pretty sure this particular jump cannot be handled that way, though. I tried the usual method for quite some time and never even got close to making that jump. It might be possible based purely on distance (though I’m not even sure about that) except that it seems there’s a sloped “drop off” at the end of the ledge, and so when you try running off and jumping at the last second you end up getting lower than the ledge and aren’t high enough to make it.
This is the only instance I’ve come across where I felt I absolutely HAD to dodge jump. Ever other jump I’ve done using “run off the ledge” method.

^ I second this experience. I have tried both method and acknowledge that we absolutely have to make a dodge jump at this step. I’m usually far better at “run off the ledge” jump. On a side note, after numerous failed attempt, I tried to scout an alternative route, but sadly there is none :-(

You can try some different ways of doing dodge jump if the thumb doesn’t work. If spacebar is a problem you can bind two adjacent small keys such as the [ and ] brackets and try hitting both of those at once which should be easier.
For me the thumb method was not that reliable, but what works 90% of the time is using two fingers and a very fast tapping motion to press the keys. A full tap and release, not just the down motion.

They should work on increasing the time leeway to dodge after a jump. With such a small window of time, not only your input devices affect the success of a jump, but also how hot your fingers are, as they become softer when they are hot, requiring to move the finger slightly further to press, which accentuates the differences between keyboards.
I tested it myself with ice. When my fingers are cold, I can do more dodge-jumps in a row than when they are hot.
If such a small difference affects so much this, then there’s no other way than having a look at the mechanic to make it more reliable regardless of factors external to the game itself.

one dev said that: you have to press jump and 0.1s later dodge. so dont press both at the exact same time but as fast as you can after one another. works for me with shift+spacebar in 99%.
