To facilitate this process, we have reset everyone’s Exotic weapon discoveries so that you will be able to re-discover them and get that sweet XP bonus once again.

I spent Months Discovery them all for Armorsmith, leatherworker, huntsman and weaponsmith, I’ve yet to do them to the other 2 crafting, not to mention Sentinels Stats, weapons and armor that don’t have a recipe i had to do molten dungeon to get the inscriptions/insignia’s saved up for unlocking which I’ve unlocked already on those 4 for all weapons and armor. Also I spent Hundreds of gold doing so on mats, your going reset them all including the celestial recipes i used to easily unlock the weapon|armor discovery’s and Givers recipes which uses mats that can’t be obtained anywhere except on the tp? WTH.
Why can’t you just give a boost for each item unlocked instead of a reset, that gives a random or set or whatever amount of craft exp when used for each one unlocked?

I did this all because i wanted them all discovered, i like unlocking them all (all weapons and all armor peices) even after i hit 400 but now your gonna throw out all my hard work out WTH.

Are you aware that re-discovering them will give you progression now? The cap is being raised. If you discover exotic combinations again you’ll shoot way up past 400 just by doing it.

This is one of those rare rare cases where this affects players negatively. You discovered all the recipes for no exp whatsoever but solely so it shows up in your crafting list tab. Doing so probably made you poorer, therefore this affects 0.000001% of their player base negatively while the rest benefit significantly from this.

Seems they’re in a bit of a rock and a hard place with this. If they don’t reset, then those players like the OP who have discovered everything are up a creek in leveling crafting. If they retroactively gave xp, those who did extra discovering will have a bit of an advantage, and resetting means some people will have wasted some money.

But discovery doesn’t change the actual recipe right? If you want to craft any of those items you discovered in the past, all you have to do is re-craft it in the discovery tab.

If your point is that you like them on your list, then I suppose that can be a complaint but functionally it is indistinguishable.

I can see your point OP, I’m also a bit of a completionist and as far as Jewelcrafting goes I also discovered nearly every single recipe from 1-400, I didn’t go as far as you and thus it doesn’t bother me as much. I also believe that this is simply lazy design as they could have simply added the ascended crafting to level 400, adding another 100 levels is just more artificial ‘time gating’, in this case, a gold drain. Perhaps you can work something out with support before it is all vanished but I really doubt Anet will do something different and erase your completed list anyway.

It’s not as if you can never ever see those weapons again and ArenaNet has taken away your ability to make them. Re-discovering them is exactly the same as re-crafting them. All you’re losing is the recipe, not the ability to craft these weapons. A true waste of gold and mats would be if ArenaNet reset everyone’s crafting rating to 0 and you had to hit 400 again.

I think you are missing the point of the OP, he doesn’t care he can still craft them. It’s about having the list completed, like a collector wants to have all minis or a deck of cards irl. That is exactly why he/she is upset. Personally I’ve done collecting in a similar manner in another game where I eventually had every possible crafting recipe in that specific game, I would be upset if the hardest/most expensive ones are suddenly gone too.

Bound ascended gear is being time-gated to a snail’s pace and requires tons of expensive mats including ecto. I’d rather keep my exotic recipes rather than waste more materials to discover them and then go on a years long quest to outfit my character with bound ascended. Keep the ascended and leave my recipes alone please.

We all used expensive & bloody rare materials to make exotics, along with buying the recipes on tp or via karma.
We also had to often make more then one, just to try & get to 400 in crafting.

Now, all those recipes we have to rediscover. I want my wasted materials back!
This non grindy game is already the grindiest game I`ve ever played & they just keep making it worse.

OP has a point; there are some exotic recipes that you can only get from playing a living story chapter, like Molten Alliance, so if they reset them now, its impossible to get them again unless you buy them off the trading post, which would cost an insane amount of gold. And that is only further worsened if you had to purchase them in the first place; to pay 30g for the same recipe twice is bullkitten. They should have added new recipes, not reset old ones.

Of course it’s saying “To facilitate this process, we have reset everyone’s Exotic weapon discoveries so that you will be able to re-discover them and get that sweet XP bonus once again.” only discoveries will need to be re-discovered, you won’t have to get the recipe again.

And overall the change is awesome, now we can more easily get to 500 crafting

Really? Go right a head and stress for no reason then. The Chicken Little dance can be quite amusing. They are specifically allowing recipes to be “re-discovered” for crafting XP and you NEVER have to discover purchased or found recipes (the recipe you “consumed” IS the discovery).

As has been pointed out by other posters: The recipes for inscriptions are not impacted by this, you have to rediscover the weapon and then get XP from it. Example:

I can currently craft a Berserker’s Pearl Reaver. After the build, I will still know how to make the Inscription (which is the recipe), but i will need to put one of the Berserker’s Orichalcum Imbued Inscriptions, one Orichalcum Axe Blade and one Small Ancient Haft into the Discovery window and make it to be able to craft the axe again.

Its poor to assume what they are telling us will happen??? A recipe counts as a discovery, because you cant discover how to craft it until you’ve used/unlocked the recipe. So if they are telling us we must rediscover everything, then by all means, it is right to assume that we must rediscover recipes, as they are one and the same. If such is the case, then those who’ve spent tones of gold purchasing event only recipes are being screwed.

If you want to make something from one of the exotic recipes you had learned but it had been reset, simply put the ingredients into the discovery window and make it.

I’m with the OP on this one. The Molten Alliance event didn’t have a recipe to learn the insignia (unless I didn’t see it as a dropped item). So when the reset does hit, relearning to craft that item now becomes that much harder. Not cause of the mats, but the fact the insignia isn’t something that was learned via a recipe. I did get the one for making the unlimited Molten Berserker Tonic and that would have annoyed me if that was gone (which seems to not be the case).

When you already have a level 80 character, the exp reward for crafting is not much incentive.

What threads? They made a blog post about Ascended gear crafting, MF gear, and how it would effect the economy. The “OMGWTFBBQXXX” threads about misconceptions and misinformation should be dealt with first.

After all, they’re not going to let people twist their words. As far as the words they haven’t officially posted, they’re going to treat them as normal speculation/troll threads and ignore them.

Uh … what the heck are you getting at? Everyone will have to be crafting exotics to get to 500. You get to 400 by crafting rares not exotics.

The Sentinel’s items isn’t really an issue at a practical level. It is only an issue for people who wants to have a “complete list of everything even if I can’t craft it”. Nobody cares about the character exp but anyone who wants to get to 500 is going to care about the extra crafting exp from doing a discovery.

1) People who discovered these recipes simply to have them unlocked. A friend of mine crafted a LOT of very unprofitable exotics just to have the recipes unlocked for their own sake. He’s just gone and wasted several hundred gold now because of this change.

2) People will have wasted a lot of gold by having discovered these beforehand and now must discover again to get the XP boost.

Players should get the XP boost without needing to lose gold discovering them again. The vast majority of exotic recipes incur a MASSIVE gold loss.

I’m with OP here. The issue is the cost and/or unavailability of the appropriate materials to get back to the point that we are already at. I too have every discoverable recipe unlocked for all 8 crafting professions and spent ridiculous amounts of time and gold to do such.
Resetting anything that is unlocked with a cost is a terrible way to go about this and will only make people who put effort into crafting early angry.
I know that I will be angry enough to punch a baby if my discoveries are reset and I’m sure that a good number of others will be upset too.

The best solution is to retroactively award equivalent XP and Crafting levels to those of us who have already unlocked exotics through discovery instead of punishing us for crafting earlier in the game.

Wasn’t there some way to simply check which 400 level items (for example Rifle, Longbow and Torch from Carrion, and Longbow and Shortbow from Berserker) you already had and automatically give the retroactive experience?

I don’t have many unlocked, but people with a lot of lvl400 discoveries wasted a huge amount of T6 materials, and now will have to waste even more to get the experience.

So wait…you know someone who lost a TONNE of money just because he’s an uber-completionist? No achievement, no profit, no personal gain…it was all for the sake of having it listed in his crafting tree?

Sorry…I don’t think Anet should be basing their changes around those with OCD-like impulses. :/

There was no XP boost. You crafted those items at the cap…which meant the XP was worthless. What do you want Anet to do, say, “Sorry you crafted at max level”? They’re not going to save the XP you forego by crafting at the cap.

Oh and BTW, once you reach the lvl 500 cap, you may want to wait a year and NOT craft any ascended weapons so that you don’t have to go through this again. I guess you’ll have to find all your ascended weapons for your sets. Good luck hunting!

They ALL incur a gold loss. The only recipes you can hope to make money on are the rare lvl 80 greatswords because people are eating those up in the mystic forge. All other weapons either break even or lose money.

Pro tip for traders: You have to multiply your trade price by 1.15 in order to get your break-even amount. The “projected profit” at the TP doesn’t do that for you.

I did that to them all (ALL inscriptions have been turned into each weapon for huntsman and weaponsmith )already thats what Im extremely upset about.

Don’t forget Sentinel’s Orichalcum Imbued Inscriptions which has no recipe at all you had to do molten dungeon to get those and i did, saved up exactly enough for all the professions that used them. now i have to purchase those Inscriptions to redo AGAIN at a wopping 262g just to unlock the weapons AGAIN without the cost of mats.

I crafted to unlock things NOT to progress in level and your resetting all the exotic weapon discovery’s i have unlocked . Thats my gold, my hardwork and my time getting those weapons all unlocked for each inscription on the discovery page down the drain if you reset it.
and don’t forget about the people who unlocked destroyer weapons on the discovery tab those where to pricey for me to unlock so i was gonna unlock them all slowly after i unlocked everything else I still have Talior Artificer Jewler and Chef to fully unlock.

what about Celestial weapons that where unlocked thru a recipe (Not the inscription recipe) I have to purchase the recipes or wait 75 days to make them from the inscriptions to get them unlocked again.

To make my self more clear here is what I have unlock In-terms for exotic weapons that they will be throwing away from my account and why I’m extremely upset about this reset.
All weapons for Huntsman and Weaponsmith for the “Berserker’s ,Apothecary’s, Carrion, Celestial, Cleric’s, Explorer’s, Giver’s, Knight’s, Rampager’s, Sentinel’s, and Valkyrie inscriptions”
8 weapons for weaponsmith 7 for huntmans 15 × 10(yes i know 11 but the Celestial weapons i unlocked thru individual recipes) 150 weapons i crafted and i have to craft Again plus Celestial recipes to purchase since i already used the ones i saved for the 2 professions to unlock the weapons (Not the insciptions) and sentinels i won’t be able to unlock again till they release a way to get those inscriptions again other then the outrageous 18g per inscription on TP which means those are pretty much gone for good, for me.

And I’m sorry if you think im crying or what not i was really looking forward to this ascended weapon sab and legendary till they annouced they be throwing my hard work of getting all the weapons unlocked out the door with the reset.

way to force a gold sink… good going . I hate the new ascended weaponry . Ascended trinkets are easier to switch around and you can have multiple armor sets for 1 character . This is just insane . WTH ?

Get them up to 400 now. This effects 400 level exotics only.
