I was almost done with the monthly until this reset, and I’m seeing lots of people who were done and are now at 2/4 again, meaning theoretically they will get the monthly reward again. Considering I don’t recall reading “anything” about monthlies resetting with the new patch, I’m a little peeved right now. The monthly is easy to do, that’s no biggy, but the fact that I was almost complete and log in and find the stuff I completed gone kind of upsets me. I’ve kind of just gone with the flow with most of the complaints with Anet and this game because it’s free and I hate to be picky, but this set me over.

It’s because they changed the rewards. The old rewards had karma juggs, the new reward has karma juggs and I believe luck items (to boost your account MF). Players who completed their monthly early would have missed out on the new rewards.

Worst case scenario, a bunch of people (3 days into the month, not that many) will get a few extra achievement points and a few extra laurels.

Pretty much. Given the nature of the Clockwork event I’d say a large portion of players where able to get the dailies done, especially given the champ portion could be completed in 1-2 invasions depending on the spawns and amount of players. That and the crafting portion is super easy, as is the JP part. 10 laurels is a little more than a few more when they’re rewarded all at once like that.

Well they could have just sent the people who already completed their monthlies an additional luck reward, but I don’t know how easy that would be (or if it’s even possible) given their current system. Their solution may have been the only (or the best) option to send out essences of luck to people who already finished their monthlies.

I mean this is no more game breaking than a bunch of people who got double b-day presents. A slight annoyance, but I’d rather some get double than others getting none.

If they are letting this go they should just either give everyone the monthly reward pre-patch or roll it back.
Should be easy enough to retroactively give everyone some laurals, jugs and coins. There, everyone is back to the same footing.

Who cares if others get some extra rewards?

I was at 3/4 and I’m happy that the monthlies reset because now I will get more achievement points. Focus on the fact that you are benefiting from this, and not that others are benefiting a little more.

That is true, but they only really have value if you have lots of alts. I don’t care about spending 50 ectos to give my alts ascened gear so I only put them on my main. I don’t know what to spend my laurels on, I took a ~2.5 month break right around when they were first introduced and I still have over ~110 laurels with nothing that pressing to buy.

Where did I say the people who were already done shouldn’t get the new reward? I said they shouldn’t get the monthly reward again of laurels etc. Sure I sound petty and sour grapes etc, but if I hadn’t been a day away from finishing (needed 1 more daily completion and some champs) I wouldn’t be so upset.

You don’t know that. A similar thing happened with the bday presents. A portion of players received them, but many did not. If the system is automated, which it most likely is, there may not be a way to check to see who got one and who didn’t. This is most likely a similar, automated thing. Another instance is some people got 2 free 15-slot boxes last year at wintersday. It’s much easier (technically and for PR) to reward some people twice, then not reward some people at all.

It doesn’t screw you over. The monthly doesn’t give anything amazingly valuable, does it? There’s a good chance the people who finished don’t need those extra 10 laurels or 10 karma jugs, but they do want the essences of luck.

Wow there. Coins may not have had a great use up untill now. But karma gain has been reevaluated and getting those jugs wouldve been nice. And especially getting 10 laurals, in particular if you arent someone who plays each and every day and frequently misses a daily or two.

Again, this whole issue can be resolved by mailing everyone who didnt complete the monthly before the reset 10 jugs, 10 laurals and 10 coins. There, problem solved.

And if they did that, it would kinda suck for me (I finished up the monthly to get the last bit of extra karma), but oh well. It’s not that big of a deal to get angry over.

Edit: Besides you getting an extra bit of luck, or me getting a bit of extra karma/laurels doesn’t effect my/your gameplay/enjoyment.

I guess you’re right on karma. I mean I never really spend any until this past weekend when I dropped ~9 mil on boxes, but I still have a little over a million left. I haven’t seen the patch yet, but the value of karma still seems to be just 20k per recipe, unless there is another karma sink I missed.

And true, I will give you that laurels are nice to have if you don’t log in every day. But even if you only got 20 laurels a month, you probablly still have had enough to gear up at least 1 main. (I don’t really play my alts that much, but I do feel for people who love alts. I don’t really like/agree with all this time gated stuff because it does screw over people that like different alts or stat combos, which to me, both of those things are one of the bigger draws to this game.)

I agree with that, and if they did it I wouldn’t care (I only say that, because I know someone would complain if they did). Another fix would be to have not reset the monthly and just given the people who already completed it the additional rewards. The problem is we don’t know how easy that is, or if its even possible. Assuming that most of those types of rewards (dailies, monthlies, achievement chests, world bosses, etc.) are automated to happen as soon a X happens, I doubt they keep a record of it. It would take a while to code (and test) something that would check each accounts monthly progress to see if they had or had not completed the monthly yet.
