I am talking of course of the various “collect all baubles” achievements. I love SAB, and even tribulation mode is great fun. But these kitten “collect everything and kill everything” achievements are like pulling teeth. World 2 zone 2 is proving particularly ridiculous with the requirement of killing all assassins and backtracking to the shortcut eagle just to collect 5 baubles (while making sure not to get hit off by bees). I want to play the game, not pore over a guide on the side of my screen while stressing over whether or not I accidentally missed a single bauble out of hundreds that will force me to do the entire mundane thing over again. At least require less for the meta achievement if you are going to include these.

First of all, THEY ARE OWLS NOT BEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My only complaint about it is that you have to kill the boss in order for the achievement to ding.

Kill every thing achievements were fine. Because they were rewarded upon the last killed enemy. Collecting the baubles how ever shouldn’t be rewarded upon defeating the end boss.

The achievements were hardly a chore. They took less effort than most of the other ones. Of course if you were expecting to blast through them the first night…

The secret door achievements are nice, but I do have to agree that the “Collect all baubles” are a bit of a chore. This is especially because there’s no easy way to track how many you already have, and you won’t know if you missed one until it’s too late.

If you think baubles are a chore, then you must have missed all the pumpkins/snowmen/pinatas/sky crystals. I agree that not being able to track progress and it only being awarded at the end is annoying. But, really SAB achievements are one of the better achievement sets we’ve had. Also because there are no cheap tricks you can use to complete them like guesting or zoning on overflows.

Other than the sky crystals, I don’t recall instant death if you missed a jump. Also, none of your examples, including sky crystals, required you to find them all without some form of tracking.

Again, it’s not completely a question of being a chore, but one of not knowing if you achieved the goal until and after you kill the boss. If it’s bugged, or you missed something, your other examples didn’t require you to redo the entire thing from scratch like is needed in SAB.

Once again, your citing of the other ‘collecting’ events didn’t punish players that way.

Not even close.

Would kind of be nice if they at least made it like the infantile mode achievements. Each bauble increased it (with 0AP), till you got the last one, which would then give the current AP. Would definitely prefer to have a counter on the screen, like the kill(?) count. Seems like they should be able to just convert that, if its a bauble in a predefined space, decrement the count (definitely needs to count down instead of up, so we know if we’ve missed one).

Are there more than 750 baubles in any 1 zone? If not, cant you just count how many you pick up? If there are more, you could delete a stack of 250. If you picked some up from enemies, you could split the stack and delete what you picked up.

Some/most of the baubles require you to use you’re baubles to get them (bombs). So you can’t just rely on the count. Also, like the case of World 2 Zone 2, you need to spend baubles to get the keys (unless you kill everything, but even then when I did it and killed the assassins (might as well do that achieve at the same time), I didn’t get any keys to drop, had to buy them).

There’s an engine limitation that prevents that apparently.

It’s tedious, but you can bring a friend to open things with bombs and buy keys. Pretty sure the key buyer can just drop it for others to pick up.

You’d also have to avoid picking up any of the baubles enemies drop as those dont count to the achievement. Honestly I think it would have been better if they’d used the event system for tracking this achievement. set up a zone wide achievement with a progress bar or a counter that increments when someone collects a bauble thats part of the achievement. once you’ve got them all the event completes and you’ve got your achivement.

I only do that stuff with guides. Takes some time and I don’t want to miss baubles. Those achievements are a pain. Would be enough if there were the secret rooms and a few chests but not every single bauble.

I spent a whole sunday to complete world 2-1 & 2-2 in normal mode and their respective achievements. The bauble one is surely difficult on the first try but only as much as when I first tackled the frog boss alone. I’m sorry about OP’s frustration but this challenge is hardly a chore but worthy of an achievement.
