Q:
A couple of quick questions about how magic find stats will be transferred to the account bonus:
1) Will we need to be wearing our MF gear when the update hits to apply the boost to the account bonus? Or will our highest MF gear be selected from our bank/inventory from all characters and use to determine the bonus?
2) Will runes/etc that aren’t attached to a piece of gear be applied to the account bonus, or are those stats just lost?

Nothing will get applied to your account bonus at all, beyond a base 20% value. Your current gear can be restatted to a different applicable stat set, but you’ll need to build up your new Account Magic Find from the same level as everyone else.

You’re referring to this, I believe?
“In order to get everyone started on this new system, all current players will receive enough luck to get to +20% magic find.”
That sounds to me like all accounts will start off at 20% regardless of current gear. ArenaNet has mentioned a couple of times that people who have built MF gear sets will not lose their stats — capping the initial boost to 20% would cause riots in the streets of Tyria :-P

The initial boost is going to be capped to 20%. That’s what I get from reading that. You can prepare the riot if you want.
If we’re going to use your reasoning, then what’s stopping anyone from going out and buying a full Explorer’s set the day before the patch to get a big leg up, and then getting to re-stat said set to whatever they want to afterwards? It won’t work like that.

I take “all current players” to include those without MF gear — they’re not going give everyone, MF gear or not, 20% regardless. That would be a huge shaft to players that have built up their gear sets, and that doesn’t sound like something the designers would do.
I only have one set of MF gear, and I’m a pretty chill guy — I wouldn’t be rioting :P But judging by how some players throw a fit over speculation and complain about everything arenanet does, they would need to prepare for the hordes of bitter farmers with 30g+ worth of MF gear for multiple characters if they just yanked the stat and dropped them to 20% ;-)
In any case, this is all just more speculation. Let’s see if I can get an official response on this post, or a source with an unambiguous answer.

I’m curious. Currently through Achievement Chests, I have an account wide MF of 6%. Will that go to 20% like everyone else, or will it be 20+my 6% from the Achievement Chests?
If it will be a flat 20% across the board for everyone, i’m losing my 6% from the Achievement chests, so what do I get to make up for losing the bonus I have worked for?

I hope they mean they’re adding 20% to everyone’s account. I’d hate to be penalized for the time I’ve put into the game.

I’d guess that they’ll just send everyone 20% worth of Essence of Luck via mail as they have with other adjustments (e.g. the Karma refund from the other day. God I love these guys…). That way people who have great boosts from chests/gear conversions will receive a bonus that’s appropriate for their MF level (that is, worth less than it would be to someone with no existing boosts, since the consumables count for less as MF% increases).
I really doubt they’d just level everyone out at 20% — the GW2 team tries to be fair and has done a good job of it so far (e.g. the Karma refund again), and I’m sure they’ll do something reasonable to let people keep what they’ve earned :-)

Does the 300% MF cap apply just to the account-bound MF or does it represent the highest MF a character can obtain, including buffs and boosts? I am assuming it just pertains to the account-bound essence of luck MF, but it would be nice to know for certain.

it applies only to account bound MF%. now whether or not it includes the account bound MF% from achievements or not is unknown. although the new interface does seem to keep them calculated separately when moused over.

This is pure speculation on my part but my guess is 300% is the maximum percentage that will affect drops, meaning I believe once you hit max, there will be no need to eat mf food or use guild banners. I could be wrong because ArenaaNet probably doesn’t want to make those things meaningless. But i also believe that 300% mf is going to take a long, L-O-N-G time to reach. I’m thinking tens if not hundreds of thousands of salvages, maybe even more.

they have stated that non-account bound MF% boosts can raise you above the 300% cap

I read the post and watched the dev stream, but must’ve missed that. Makes sense though. I still think it’s going to be a long, slow grind to 300%.

My question is for those Celestial equipment, how do that 3% MF are compensated? Nothing in the Dev’s notes make mention of those equipments. Are the 3% “spread out” to other stats? or it is being replaced with a new stat?

Is the 300% max magic find, including the +20% utility mf/food mf or not?
I want to know if 300% is a hard limit full stop.
Or if its 300% +food/utility slot.
