I don’t mind dying. I don’t mind doing the same run hundreds and hundreds of times over and over. I do mind that falling in the water means waiting forever for my HP to eventually run out so I can just restart at the checkpoint. I would like to have landing in the moving water to just instakill me so I can do another attempt. Punishing players for a failed jump or for getting hit by a mob is fine, death is appropriate. What’s not appropriate punishment is the forced wait for your character to finish tumbling while slowly losing 1/2 a heart each time.
You can still jump in between getting knocked around. If timed correctly and if you’re at a good spot, you can even recover and not waste a life.
If you’re experiencing your character slowly losing 1/2 a heart each time, it’s probably because you’re not taking advantage of the fact that you can jump in between the knockbacks. If you’re near a ledge or rock, jump on it. If not, jump to a more open area so you get flushed away faster.

The second I get knocked past my checkpoint, I stop trying. There is no point in trying to recover after that. Yes, about 10% of the time I can recover but it gets to a point where once I hit the water I’m tired of fighting and I just want to start over. Not asking for this to be mandatory, but by far the most frustrating part of W2 so far are sections where you lose complete control of your character for a long period of time with little to no chance of recovery. It’s the most anti-fun mechanic I’ve experienced yet in SAB.
