Even SAB makes you use the Gemstore now.

Cut backs on farming baubles, ramp up the difficulty on world 2 compared world 1 (not even doing Tribulation Mode), have spawn spots that you are easily pushed behind (making it easier to die and respawn).

Visit the Gemstore and buy an infinite continue coin is the way to go. I’m not surprised, just disappointed.

The infinite coin is to help those that fail at it. You get enough continue coins and baubles to buy them from each zone chest to progress normally. Do you really need more than 15 lives per zone?

What they should have done was not release the infinite coin until a few days from now and be like… here’s a little help.

why do you all see it like that?
nobody would have said anything if there wasnt such a item available ingame. its just for people who cant get enough of it. your not forced to buy it either, your not missing out on anything, there are enough ways to get free coins. and you have the option to buy one with gold so whats all the fuzz about?

I’m not arguing!

Silence

Perhaps the only way to do Tribulation mode without the continue coin is to wait for a walk through to get released, but even then.

Somewhere else I was reading that the ‘infinite continue’ could get applied elsewhere. Like when the Queen’s gauntlet returns…. Tickets become difficult to farm, are from events that can only be repeated once a day HOWEVER go to the gemstore to be saved!

Is this pushing into the realm of P2W?

Yes, World 2 completed on normal mode.

I don’t get all this p2w nonsense talk for a convenience item you can purchase with ingame gold. If paying 30g for a convenience item freaks you out in this game, I caution you to stay away from games like WoW where you have to pay thousands upon thousands of gold to unlock flying every few levels or special mounts that carry repairs and other necessary items for your characters.

What looks optional to some, is not to everyone. Some people can’t farm the baubles to get coins the normal way for whatever reason, and perhaps some people don’t want to be forced into choosing between spending real-life money on a game that keeps doing these things, or just not do the content.

Some people were under the impression that the gem store was optional, and you can’t simply just trade gold in for gems nowadays, not with the outrageous rates that they are going for now. My friend spent well over 30 gold to get 600 gems for the continue coin. I get that the gems are basically the lifeblood of Guild Wars 2, and buying them with actual cash helps keep the game running, but that’s supposed to be an option.

Which with every patch, is becoming less and less of an option. You want something fancy nowadays, better have the cash to ship out for it, or hundreds of gold to waste.

I don’t understand how an item can be important enough to kitten about wanting on the forums but not important enough to spend gold on. 30g does not seem like that bad of a deal honestly, I can think of a dozen worse ways to spend it on than what is essentially a free pass for the next 2 weeks of content.

Is the continue coin a leg up for those who have it? Sure is. Pay to win? No, since anyone can still buy it with gold. Unless an item is cash only and inaccessible without a credit card then you can’t cry foul play. You have access to the same opportunities as everyone else, no cash required.

Semantically speaking our understanding of P2W differs. Anything external to the game (gemstore) that requires investment in some form of finance to achieve something in game that’s directly related to gaming content (not just cosmetic) would be perceived by some as P2W.

There’s no way to achieve the infinite coin unless you use gems.

It’s the principal, while you feel ’it’s a good deal’, the application of the ‘infinite coin’ to other areas of content in the future is my primary concern now that we’ve seen it here.

i see options.

1. want something fancy
2. does not want something fancy

there is always a choice.

if choose option
1. want something fancy
- use in game gold to buy gems
- use real dollars to buy gems
- other alternative methods, probably more time consuming.

for this month’s super adventure box, consulting a guide extensively before playing carefully may cut down the usage of continue coins.

Not everyone has 30+ gold lying around. Yes I understand that the farming content just happened and a lot of people made quite a bit of coin off of it, but that doesn’t mean everyone did.

Also, 30 gold is quite a lot to spend on gems, but the reason behind to complain about that is because the price for gems is never stable. In other games, lets say games that use an ingame item to either sell for in-game currency or add game time to a subscription, generally the price for it on the trading posts or marketplaces are rather stable.

An example of that is EVE Online, the game has been a sub game for over 10 years and has had PLEX, an ingame, tradable item that adds 30 days game time, at an extremely stable number. People have two options, either pay RL cash of I believe 20-30 bucks(a little more than the actual subscription) or they can pay 500-600 million Isk. The game even supports outside, third party ways of obtaining the PLEX with raffle sites by allowing you to link the site to someone and using an ingame browser, connect to the site and raffle away.

Another example of a game using this method was Tera Online. Until they went F2P, they used Chronoscrolls(did the same thing as plex in Eve) and from what I remember, the market in that game for those scrolls was almost static with the occasional person adding a few for an outrageous price.

Even WildStar plans on having this method in the game, but in those games, obtaining ingame money was, and is/probably is, also very possible through general questing.

The main theme there, besides some being sub games, is that the item they use their RL cash on has a static price ingame. Gem’s however, because of how it’s set up, will never be that way. It’s just going to keep increasing and increasing. A year ago 100 gems was 30 silver. Doesn’t seem like a lot now, but back then 30 silver was a lot at the time. Not everyone had made it to endgame. 100 gems are now what? 5+ gold? I’m sorry but maybe I’m just bad at making money in GW2 that I can’t afford to just ship out 30+ gold for a continue coin, and as much as I want to, I’m not going to put 10 dollars into the game just so I can waste almost all of it on a continue coin that will be used in non-permanent content and probably the leftovers on a key for the ever-so-popular BLC.

I would love to support Anet, but the state of the game is not alt-friendly, and not farmer friendly, and I’m an altoholic that likes to farm. I wonder how much it will be in a year from now to buy 100 gems.. 10 gold? 15? maybe more, who knows. All depends on when Anet stops making content for a while for it to cool down..

oh wait.. thats not going to happen with the 2 week content updates right? yeah.

Maybe they should’ve just allowed us to buy gems and have them as a physical item, similar to how zkeys worked in GW1, and allowed us to trade them and put them up for our own prices. Maybe they would be more stable. Maybe.

But hey, w.e right? I have access to the same opportunities as everyone else, so because of that I should not be complaining right? If you had access to the farming that happened, that must mean everyone did right?

It’s not like anyone missed the farming right?

It was up for sooo long, everyone must of participated and make bank right?

No, I should stop because I’m so wrong, and I should either have hundreds of gold or be considered bad and not a part of the ‘general’ community that did make bank.

Oh, okay. That makes everything better right?

Because Achievements are not a part of the endgame right? So at 80, what are you supposed to do if you:

1. Don’t have an interest in WvW.
2. Don’t have an interest in PvP.
and
3. Don’t have the gold to craft a legendary nor the mats to do so?

I know those three reasons right there are some of the reasons some of my friends quit over half a year ago. Achievements were supposed to be something you could do at when you hit 80, and with the addition of the Achievement chest every 500 points, are now something you gotta do if you want certain items, account MF, Karma, gold find and additional experience bonus’ to your account.

But its okay, because its optional.

Yes I have tried the TM. In the first few worlds you can, depending on your memory, fail and restart your way through (or as some just said, watch a video, what I will try to prevent as long as possible because I like surprises). Of course in the longer levels of World 2 dying and restarting your way through won’t be an option and there will be lots of lifes and coins to be lost for sure, thinking of how often you can even die in the normal mode.

I for my part won’t spend my baubles on continue coins, having enough of them left from SAB World 1 (that’s what happens if you did JPs back then and didn’t spend all your baubles for obsidian shards or Mystic Forge items like Crystals and P. Stones). I will purchase lifes instead.

I understand, that those not having stacked up coins due to several reasons – like missing World 1 back then – could have problems stacking up enough coins and lifes. That’s where digging comes in, and if that’s not enough, maybe you will need to buy the infinite coin. 30g is easy to come by – so no RL money needed.

As far as I know the TM is not a content meant to be completed by lots of players (at least as stated by the devs). Maybe I won’t complete all of the levels either… Noone is forced to buy the infinite coin, and it certainly has nothing to do with “P2W”, given the fact that it’s optional content and you can even purchase the coin using ingame gold…

How is SAB optional to other content? It’s all optional, you can choose to do none of it by that standard.
Correction, the infinite coin is purchased with gems. You can use gold to purchase gems (assuming you have enough), just as you can use baubles that you saved up previously, instead of using an infinite coin (assuming you farmed a lot, assuming you saved them).

Your perspective is based on a number of assumptions.

hmmm i guess i have been playing semi casually since -3 day launch also.

i have a howl (warhorn precursor) but i am not spending a lot of build gathering the required materials (tier 6 fine materials, lodestones, dungeon tokens, world 100% exploration etc) that a guild member (that was no longer playing now) sold me for 12g (he bought it from the trading post for 12g, right after the karka introduction event) and i am not in a hurry to craft that legendary.

there are a lot of guild members in my guild that have crafted their legendaries though. they have spend a lot of time into it. some of them are no longer playing that much.

for myself, i just log in daily, finish dailies, monthly, and then attempt the living story achievements.

i have been able to complete all, so far, well, except the queen gauntlet’s throwing 8 orbs at the mistress of darkness, liandri achievement. knowing that the gauntlet will be back in the future and the achievement attempt-able achieve-able again, i did not let that bother me.

as for this time, sab bts, since i am not very fond of jumping, i will wait for dulfy’s full guide before attempting the achievements.

for ascended crafting, no hurry for me either. the exotics weapons armor plus ascended trinkets will still suffice for now.

That play style is very similar to how I play as well. I’ve slowed down a bit every so often because I’d get distracted with other games or RL stuff, but its pretty on par with how I play.

That being said, I’ve never had enough ingame cash casually playing to buy a precursor and never found anything along the same lines even farming(minus the occasional 20G named exotic every so often, once I got lucky and got the molten facility mini, but it wasn’t that much of a sell).

most cash I’ve had at one point was 50G short of the golden title, and that was me casually playing since 3-day HS with the occasional cof grind.

I believe the RNG God dislike me.

I believe the RNG God dislike me.

ooo. aye, indeed. for me, i have other games (been playing splinter cell blacklist uplay version recently, was playing the bureau xcom steam, and 950+ other games on steam) and real life matters (sometimes need to help wife with her homework from her office) too.

hmmm about in game gold, i think i have about 612 gold in my wallet at the moment because i do not spend much in game, i walked often and used the way point sparingly, so basically i only spent in game monies on armor repair fees, way point fees, salvaging kits, some vendor crafting materials. hmmm i did spend some gold on some sigils, runes though. not those expensive ones heheh.

hmmm i dun have much luck with the RNG god also heheh since i have not receive a precursor drop yet hahah.

my best exotic drop was a crystal guardian (from crown pavilion casual zerging the bosses events) in which i sold it on the trading post for 68.88.88 gold (yes, i’m chinese if anyone is wondering. not mainland china though. malaysian)

i’ll collect continue coins slowly casually from some characters parked at jumping puzzle chests (trolls end and sharkmaw cavern)

I’ll be interested to see if you try and successfully complete TM 1&2 with that strategy.

heheh. i’ll wait for dulfy’s guide and see how it goes later.
if i fail, then i will wait for the next round of sab after a few months.

i only have 8 characters, and 5 parked at the moment.

the fragments only drop for level 80 characters. >.<
i have 2 more not level 80 yet.
yesssss i am very slow, no rush now. takes thing slowly etc.

It’s really, really, pay to win. You can’t do tribulation mode without it since the entire basis is trial-and-error gameplay that hardly involves anything else. They’re pushing it much too far and I hope that people get a refund if they spent actual money on it.

it certainly has nothing to do with “P2W”, given the fact that it’s optional content and you can even purchase the coin using ingame gold…

How is SAB optional to other content? It’s all optional, you can choose to do none of it by that standard.

It’s still a difference if you are being prevented from finishing the main story or from ever reaching 80 by introducing a “P2W item” (what the coin isn’t, you should really try playing a game that really uses P2W…), or if its some achievements that do nothing but giving you a weapon of different color.

I’m sorry, but I fail to see the difference between exchanging gold for gems and then buy the coin or being able to purchase it directly. For me the possibility to exchange my gold for the infinite coin (no matter how many steps there might be inbetween) means I can purchase it with gold. So nothing more to add here from my part.

When it comes to assumptions – yes, I assume that those wanting to get the SAB achievements including TM actually play the SAB. I hope that’s not too much to assume…

I don’t assume everyone has 30g. But I assume it’s very possible to get it when working for it, no matter if you sell your T6 mats now that they are expensive or collect some ore, whatever… This assumption is very valid when looking at TP prices and the limited time you need to collect ore and other mats. You could also take part in one of the countless events. There are also the new mats you can craft and sell… There are enough possibilities to get gold in case you choose to buy the infinite coin, so again – no P2W here.

I don’t assume everyone has farmed the SAB back then (I didn’t either by the way – I just got my continue coins by doing about everything else – JPs, chests in Orr, etc.).

My baubles came from daily runs through World 1 Zone 1-3 using my main, taking all the digging spots. “Farming” (more grinding) the SAB was what others did, by recreating twinks in a loop… My limited time and disgust for grinding prevented me from doing this. So for me there are no changes in farming regarding the changes ANet made by making digging spots and chests account bound dailies.

The only difference is, that now I have more Worlds to choose from when digging for my baubles. I think that’s something everyone can do. And I’m still curious if the new shovel gives some extra baubles – that’s what I’ll try as soon as I’m home from work.

The only way you ‘need’ the continue coin is if you don’t want to take breaks from
SAB to farm coins.

Continue coins are a 100% drop from each chest inside SAB and they drop from jumping puzzles around the world. You can also buy them with bubble babbles. There is not shortage but if you do run out this content is repeatable daily for these same drops.

Using 5 continue coins at once gets you 25 lives. 25. Not sure how much using 10 at once gets you.

So if you don’t want to have to take a break from SAB to farm some coins you can buy the continue coin, otherwise take a short break, run a some puzzles, save up the coins you get from the chests from with in and you’ll have plenty.

World 1 can be run in like 10 minutes from start to finish, between the chests and the bubble babbles you can earn over 50 lives in no time flat.

the community farmed an insane amount of money and people are complaining? this is not pay to win since it costs 30g which is easily obtained…

you didn’t farm anything, silly

you get 300 gold from farming, then you spend 300 gold to level crafting from 400-500 on 3 characters, and you buy an infinite coin and miniatures and finisher

you didn’t farm anything, lol

Or if you’re sensible about it, you farm 300 gold, then only spend 20 gold levelling one craft to 450 on day 1 so you can make the time-gated crafts, and either gather the rest of the mats for levelling yourself or wait for prices to fall.

I don’t think that paying for an infinite continue coin with in-game gold will be even a drop in the ocean for most.

I really don’t see the pay 2 win component here.
It is not like the coin lets you skip half the zones, you still have to actually complete everything on your own, you simply get unlimited chances without having to spend baubles.

Picking and choosing your arguments out of context is certainly one way to go.

This is a unique approach too:

I assume that those wanting to get the SAB achievements including TM actually play the SAB.

You know your probably right.

A warrior, a guardian, and an elementalist walk into an open field…
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
