SAB & the vertically challenged
You’re 5 days early. >_>
i present myself as czar yzara elementalist on fort ranik, i am one of the worst jumpers ever, probably will not get to finish the sab part 2 just like i didnt manage to finish part 1, hopefully i will find a good group that can tp me to the end, but im not counting on it, but when i am asked if sab is a good idea, i approve, even if im not good at it, its still really fun, and between you and me thanks to part one im alot better, and actually try jumping puzzles now without falling on the first few jumps
SAB part 1 didn’t have a lot of mandatory jumps. Of those jumps, very few needed fast reflexes and only a few of them were somewhat hard (out of achievements).
Also you could always find a team to carry you all the way to the end.
The first world in SAB was easier than nearly every jumping puzzle because you didn’t have to wonder “can I even jump there ?” or “wait…is that a texture bug or am I supposed to go there ?”
The second world seemed harder though.
But let’s not forget : Baby mode. Yes the rewards aren’t the same, but you aren’t doing the same “work” as those playing in Normal mode.
Don’t give up on Jumping Puzzles. Practice practice practice, because Anet won’t stop putting them in the game.
They included Infantile Mode for people just like you, Siliconmana! Yay!!! No more salty wounds!
I am bad at X, thus Arenanet should never introduce anything for people that like and/or are proficient at X, else I will open a pointless complain thread on the forums even though they went as far as introducing an easy mode for less able players.
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

This. They literally made it so that even people that were incapable of timing jumps could do it. What else do you want?

What do you think they want?
They want the rewards the Tribulation mode players are going to get.

Blue ribbons for everyone!

Then they can learn to play the game. Seems fair enough to me. It’s not gated by anything other than skill, so there really shouldn’t be a complaint. But I guess it is the forums.
But “I wanna be the guy”

More jumping puzzles………… wonderful.
(Actually I hate them, cheap frustrating content filler).
While it should provide rewards and much fun for those with vertical prowess, some of us just simply fail dismally at JP’s. Now Anet wants to rub salt in the wound and bring in round two of SAB for more frustration and impossible rewards. Yaay…not.
Infantile mode is just for you. It allows you to complete the 8-bit stylized dungeon while skipping the jumping parts (via sparkly rainbows and smiling clouds). However, from my understand it would seem that Infantile Mode is so “easy” that rewards are almost non-existent in it. So, there you go.
One super part of it is there is no falling damage unless you land in acid or a bottomless pit. Which makes it much more a puzzle because you can just keep trying.
I’m not a great jumper and I never even tried the Rapids, but flailing around in the Box with guildies was a ton of fun and they helped me with King Toad mostly by me hanging out above while someone solo’d him … -rolls eyes at self- Though I did actually fight him the time I achieved him.

That is true. But somehow I read that (and most similar comments) as “I am better than you, get lost noob!”.

Correct.
But make it sound more friendly to fit the forum FAQ!
Infantile Mode exists for that reason. If I remember correctly, all of the old SAB world 1 achievements could be completed in Infantile Mode. The only difference was that the end chests did not reward Bauble Bubbles, but you could still earn them by gathering Baubles and trading them in to Moto anyway.

You could also not get the non-account bound skins from the end chest.

Forkrul Assail – Mesmer
Ah yes, that’s true. Still, if you had your heart set on one of the SAB skins, you could just farm up Baubles and buy an account-bound skin for yourself, so it wasn’t a big loss.
If you aren’t good at platformers…you should probably quit video games.
EVERY single game should have beaten mario bros at least a 100 times….and beaten mario 64 1000 times

u sir are wrong! not many people good at platformers but they doing pretty well in video games
Some of us just don’t like Mario-style platformers. Is there something wrong with being a gamer who has preferences for other types of games? I think not.
I will most likely not be participating in this Living Story, because I have a strong dislike of platformers and minigames, but I’m happy for my friends who enjoy the SAB. It won’t last for long, so I’m not complaining…much.

This. So much.
Please people for the love of god…this is 100% a case of L2P or just do something else you CAN do. Rise to the challenge for once instead of whining things need to be easier.

If one area of the game is absolutely right, it’s SAB. You can do it with virtually no JP skills. You can do it with decent JP skills. And now you will be able to do it with super leet JP skills.
You can get skins as drops (but you’ll need the “normal” mode). But you can also get the skins with a bit more effort (i.e. redoing it a few extra times) in “normal” and “easy” mode. And you can get the same skins, but with a different colour to stand out, in “hard” mode. So, if you cannot do “hard” mode, the only thing you’ll miss out on is some colour.
And for those that are bad at jumping. Really, at least try it once. You won’t incur armour damage (I hate having to pay for a few jumping mistakes) and you don’t need to wait for somebody to finally res you (I hate having to pay for a few jumping mistakes or waiting for hours for somebody to pass by to revive you). So you can try some harder moves, without having to pay for it. Jumping around corners was something I learned in SAB.
And the best: you can do this alone, so nobody around to laugh at you if you fail miserably (or you can do it with friends, if you don’t mind being laughed at :P).

Yes many of my friends enjoy and are very good at JP’s. I wouldn’t expect to spoil their fun at all. I just think it’s a shame that certain rewards are made unavailable for those that don’t enjoy JP’s.
I have done infantile mode, think l failed even that at the end, then couldn’t be bothered repeating it. Had a friend who portaled me through a couple of the others, though what’s the point really. It’s a hassle for them.
Actually l have done some JP’s on my own, and sure, since beta, l have improved. I just don’t enjoy them, in fact it’s painful. If anyone has vertigo in RL, then you’ll know in a virtual environment, it doesn’t improve much.
Avoided Fotm for a long time because of it too and near quit then because of exclusive rewards through relics only available there. I’ve read threads about ‘oh if you don’t like it, dont play it’, and I agree to a point. I could join the majority of my Gw1 friends who’ve already quit, however not all Gw2 sucks and there’s aspects of the game l still enjoy, and people l enjoy playing with too.
In fact see this thread, it’s really enheartening to see so many people respond with encouraging posts. Thanks to you all.
Whenever I’m on a JP with a high drop under it, I get a queasy feeling in my tummy and moist hands (not handy if you’re jumping…) And no, it doesn’t matter if it’s I that is standing on a cliff or an avatar in a game…
But I still love SAB… Can’t help it! Maybe knowing you can’t drop dead helps. I don’t know.
And if you want a help through, I’ll gladly help you through, I love SAB so much, I’ll search for any excuse to redo it again!
I highly recommend people who don’t like JPs to give the SAB a try. Lots of my friends hated JPs and weren’t good at them (at all).
Still they loved the SAB and most of them claimed, that it helped them to time their jumps better in JPs outside the SAB. Some of them even said, that the SAB isn’t a JP after all… That’s how I feel about it too.

This is so true. Before SAB, I had completed 3-5 JPs. I had decided I sucked at them, and so I just never even attempted them.
After SAB, I’ve completed about 75% of them.
I’m still not amazing at them… Some of them are way beyond me. But I’ve found that I can enjoy them, especially the more puzzley ones(as opposed to the ones that are all about timing).
I stink st JPs, i mean hardcore lousy. I still have trouble with Urmaug’s in Lion’s Arch. BAD. That tree thing in Caledon ? Tried 30 or so times, never finished. Uncategorized Fractal gives me nightmares.
I know I’m terrible, doesn’t stop me from trying them, however, no sense complaining as they are a part of this game. I just go do other stuff.

I may be wrong, but imo the chars jump exactly the same height and length, disregarding their race. The asura and the norn jump the same distance, and you can easily test it.
(As a matter of fact, jumping with a norn or a charr is more difficult, since they are bulkier and doesn’t let you see the ground they are standing on!)
The only things that matter are your momentum (you can run to jump longer), some skills that give you more speed, and (of course!) your own personal skills.

Buy the skins on the TP then.

Seriously what is the point of this thread? To let everyone know that you are bad at JPs? You haven’t offered feedback, criticism, or help to anyone or anything. This forum is not your diary.

Dis content, I do not like eet. Please remove. Only the tings I like may be in da game.
If games removed anything that anyone had trouble with for whatever reason, video games would not exist. People need to realize games are NOT designed to cater to one person.
This thread was never intended to be a ‘personal diary’ or provoke a discussion on my own problems with JP’s. Thanks to those who offered help, it’s very sweet, however not necessary, l have improved and can actually face doing fotm now. Perhaps the initial post wording could have better reflected that.
The intent of the thread was to indicate once again to Anet that there is a percentage of the player base who have serious issues with JP’s and and seems to me that good game design would not want to disadvantage those players.
Simple, said and done. I’ll leave thread to the trolls

All im hearing AGAIN is; “I cant do jumping puzzles, its totally unfair to provide rewards that dont effect stats or anything other than cosmetics included within new releases of jump puzzle based content.”
Re-read your OP, then re-read my post (and apologies for sounding harsh BUT) you have got to realise how ridiculous your complaint is.
Just because a small percentage of the playerbase has problems with one kind of content shouldnt mean the larger percent of the playerbase should suffer. If SAB contained the new ascended weapons and were the ONLY way to aquire them, then yes I your complaint would be justified and valid, however under the current circumstances it really isnt.
Man, this is how WoW happened. People complained cause everything was hard, now everything is worthless. Keep Gw2 Legit. If you release a patch and someone does not complain Anet about it being to hard, that means your doing it wrong.

i freaking LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE jumping puzzles, its such a great feeling when you overcome a difficult challenge, that to me is FUN

I can’t do jp’s due to my disabilities.
And you know what? That’s okay. There are always nice mesmers willing to set up portals and if there aren’t, I deal.
SAB might be too hard for me on the harder levels and that’s also fine. Or it might be like the old NES platformers I played and fairly do-able if I try super hard.
Either way, IT’S FINE. I don’t understand the QQing.
