And all of the exotics turn into pumpkins @ September 3rd.
Surely Ascended weps will cost a nice chunk of gold. And it would be kinda okay if we needed just One weapon, but we have multiple weapons for different purposes/specs, and upgrading them will be very long and grindy.
I can already see many ppl saying “Well, you don’t HAVE to get them, exotics are still exotics”. And there was a similar talk when Ascended tier itself arrived, but these are Weapons, they don’t only have stats, but also weapon damage, so if you want to be good, you Have to upgrade, many times. (And probably forget about specs that need different stat combos)
How is this not a GRIND of all grinds? And as I remember GW2 ‘’manifesto" saying "There won’t be any grind in our game, grinding is not fun and noone likes it", I gotta say that someone has no respect for their promises.

P.s. I Really hope I am mistaken in all of this and this implementation won’t cause more problems than the ‘advantages’ it gives. And I see it only as anoher-carrot-on-a-stick to keep people playing and grinding for something. Uh.

You exaggerate by miles. Stick with exotics, then. It wll be fine for sure. And I can’t take your take on the manifesto serious … everyone knows that it was PR-Bullkitten. No grind? No way. But still, most of the grind in this game is optional even now!

If you want to surive in high(er) level fractals, then yes, it is a grind. But fractals are a grind themself.

The one thing to note was that there has been many, many discussion about what the original comment of “no grind” meant way back then. that aside, im feeling that there will be time gated stuffs, one of the new mechanics Anet seems to have thought up not too long ago that would help in the ever going need to ensure players wont get new stuff quickly, and most especially not on Day One. I do hope its not something i need to farm insanely for though, im sick to death of all the ‘farm this farm that’ stuffs we’ve been having recently.

for me, while exotics will still be just fine (provided no new content that raises the bar high enough that it gets really hard without ascendeds) i have the ever growing drive to ensure that my gameplay need not be so ‘twitchy’ and ‘make-no-mistake-or-die’ kind of stuff that boost in stats, no matter how small, is always welcome.

At least it seems the skins for the new weapons aren’t horrible like current craft lvl 400 pearl weapons…

I guess they they released ascended weapons before armor because it seems to take them more time to create armor and adapt it for different races, sex, and sizes (same reason why we’re getting a lot of new weapon sets but not too many armor sets).

Nothing……At no point did they ever attempt or promise to make GW2 fun. GW2 is designed from the ground up specifically to separate you from your money and nothing else. I used to be ANet’s biggest Fanboy too…..

I have 9 Characters and only 1 Level 80, specifically for the reasons you mentioned above. There is my main that I PvE and WvWvW with and then I essentially have 8 sPvP Characters that also serve as Bank Space. Although, I don’t really have anything to store on them. I have to admit with the release of more Ascended Gear I can’t wait for GTAV, FIFA14, AC:Blackflag, BF4, COD:Ghosts, Wildstar, EQ Next, Titan and we’ve got the X-Box One and PS4 coming out this year. Going to be great for gaming and I think I’m ready to move on. Its still crazy to me that I spent 6 Years playing GW1 but will have only played GW2 for 1 Year. What happened?

I don’t know what you all are whining about… Again… If this makes more people playing… Then it’s fine. Who cares… Currently I don’t have any way to father progress my character! I can only create new one… And that’s not what want.

even if Ascended only adds a small advantage now, by the time we have Ascended trinkets, weapons, and armor those small advantages together will be significant.

This is basically the definition of vertical progression and it’s REALLY BAD.

At least with exotics, you can buy a set off the TP if you have enough gold. As the Ascended will certainly be account bound and time gated you can forget using alts or having many different builds for one toon. And God help you if you’re a new player.

(This goes especially for WvW, but PvE also because the existence of better gear means Anet will need to make mobs harder, which means those without the gear will be left behind.)

If each piece of Ascended gear adds a mere 2% bonus to stats, then a set of fully Ascended gear will be 26% better than exotic gear (6 armor, 5 trinkets, 2 weapons).

That is a significant difference, certainly in WvW and again, PvE mobs will have to be made harder to compensate as well. Your main toon with one primary build will be ok. Other builds, no. Other toons, no. New players: forget about it.

Everybody talking abound grinding and time-gating and I’m just sitting here, wondering if the ascended equipment will have new skins.

Quite frankly, I don’t like that the ascended gear will be acc. bound. I mean, why can’t crafting be more lucrative? It takes time and gold to level it, after all.
I’m ok with everything else (time-gating and having to get new equipment to my 7 lvl 80s).

Is it just me is anyone else surprised that people are acting surprised that we have ascended weapons now? I mean Anet only outright told us 9 months ago we would… and then reminded us a few weeks back.

We knew this was coming since the second major content patch of the game. Were you all expecting them to change their minds after rings? after amulets? Perhaps after accessories? <s>Maybe they wont release armor… just weapons… </s>

People WvW and dungeon in greens and yellows… right now! The difference between a full set of exotics and a full set of rares is nearly double that of the difference between full ascended and full exotics. Somehow those people get by just fine. Not to mention we don’t even know how easy or hard it will be to obtain ascended weapons.

Why can’t they just make it so you can acquire this gear in multiple ways. Crafting, Karma, etc, etc. Get rid of the time gating, let us actually start to play this game the way we want to actually play it.
I have a feeling that is will be quite costly to craft one of these. First you have to raise you level to 500 which will probably require a load of t6 mats and ectos. Then you have to craft the t7 items which will probably be very expensive.
I wish we could actually use karma to aquire them. Not sure why we even have karma since there is not real use for it after you get exotics.

Sorry, but i’ll say anet knows what they’re doing if crafting 400-500 goes super fast and you don’t RUIN your gold collection just by levelling to 500. I don’t mind a cooldown ingredient being added to the crafted weapons. I however will mind if it’s another stupid grind like ascendeds through fractals. I refused to grind the ascended trinkets because i left WoW for exactly the same grind reason. I hoped anet stuck to their original principle and make gw2 not a grindfest, where you can do whatever you wanted when you want to without feeling you’re falling behind on the farm addicts.

At this point it’s kinda kept to that point as ascended trinkets were added available through other paths than grinding dungeons. But if ascended weaponry turns out EXTREMELY expensive like legendaries are now, then anet broke their promise and GW2 has turned into another WoW and i’ll gladly stop bothering and start playing PS3/PS4 games until camelot unchained goes into alpha testing…

I think it won’ t be that grindy (well for me it will probably be…you know…12 lv 80 charcaters…) because developers sayd new ascended crafting will be linked to “time”. For example jumping puzzle’s end chest will drop new t7 mats and such (making the jumpin puzzle’s ending chest finally useful). That’s just an example…many other things will reward t7 mats.

+1 on that idea for ascended weapon skins for each dungeon.

But my take on dungeons is to get armor for alts – sure it might not be the best armor in the game, but its something.

I’m just sad I have 8 characters my OCD wants to equip with ascended weapons – at least I have enough rings / laurels to equip ascended accessories now (I’m around 80% on my 5 lvl 80s after 1 year of gameplay)

Wont happen for now. Plus it needs to be time gated like the crafting will be. Otherwise you could run the dungeon over and over in a day and get the gear.
Do I agree with it, no, but unfortunetly that is the way they are making it. I would love to use all my Karma to get it.

Yeah dungeons are fun too, but when I run them i have a goal in mind. Why do all that work though for gear that’s not top tier?

I’d be okay with shelling out more tokens for ascended dungeon gear, though it would mean people would have to regrind for the same appearance in gear with better stats, so they should also look different too.

Farm runs in dungeons would like to say hi to you (although this is more community based rather than anet)
Queen’s gauntlet would like to say hi to you (ASCENDED REQUIRED if you wanna do the harder achivs like the gambit achivs)

So have they made content? yes. Was it mandatory? no.

- Fractals were made for that purpose, for people that like to farm items. I don’t see the problem in this one. They don’t intercept with the outside world.

- I did 5 gambits with exotics only. You just need to know your charactar and switch traits if needed.

I have 50 laurels in me. I havent done any dailys for a long time, only did monthly, and i still completed all achievements ANet provided.

Do I agree with it, no, but unfortunetly that is the way they are making it. I would love to use all my Karma to get it.

Well they have severely reduced the amount of tokens players can earn in a days worth of runs since you can no longer get full credit for swapping to alts so in a way this does create time gating as well.

And yeah i have millions of karma and don’t know what to do with it.

Otherwise what’s the point of doing dungeons unless you really like the skins.

That would make sense. I ran dungeons both for skins and stats. Now I’m done equipping my characters and I don’t run dungeons anymore, but I would, if there were new ascended equipment to be bought with tokens.

It would be awesome if we got ascended weapons with new skins for each dungeon. They would cost more tokens than the exotic ones, of course. Later on, when we get the ascended armor, they could add ascended armor sets with new skins to the dungeon vendors. More foliage skins (TA) would be highly appreciated by people with sylvari characters, like me.

This would be really nice as I gear up all my toons with dungeon tokens. Don’t bet on this happening though.

I can see the introduction of new dungeon tokens that are only given out once a day. That would satisfy the time gating requirement — and you wouldn’t be able to use saved-up tokens to get fully geared instantaneously. All of Anets requirements would be met, so this might be a possibility.

Still, seems Anet has more or less forgotten about the dungeons so who knows?

It was said on a recent interview that they were working on new dungeons and on the old ones. Maybe they will someday change the rewards (upgrading all dungeon exotics to ascended) or add new ones (completely new ascended sets).
We can always dream ^^

this is what i hiope ascended gear will be:
exsample with a greatsword

an ascended zerker GS thats has the same stats as an exotic zerker GS with a Rubyball + an infusion spot.

now with this there could be great farming and trading potential.
because now for EACH POSSIBLE WEAPON UPGRADE ther must be ascended version of it.
to find the one you want as ascended would take a long time to find. it would make those weapons also alot more expensive, and maybe exotics more aquiarble for those with less gold, giving them the opportunity to join later fractals much better.

like this i could easily see ascended gear ranking around triple digit goldnumbers and exotics (except for rare skins and presecutors) drop to low fair prizes.

like this the eectronicl kitten of 24/7 farmer and fractales grinder remains but casuals get the same gear for the rest of pve.

the same concept can then be later used for armor aswell. ( including a fractal armor)

I refused to grind the ascended trinkets because i left WoW for exactly the same grind reason.

That’s curious… There are hundreds of quests in WoW, but for some reason the only thing worth doing for you was to grind. And still… You left because the ‘game’ forced you to. As in gw2… The only reasons to get AC gear right now is to grind fractals (that you refuse to), farm gold in dungeons (that you also refuse to) and some upper hand in WvW that is just ridiculous. But still, instead of having fun with the game, you have to grind?!

Why can’t you play the game the way you want?!

An exotic Neck item Plus jewel provides +115 main stat. Similarly, an Exotic one handed weapon plus Orb provides +110 main stat. Thus, we can assume that Ascended 1 handed weapons will have stats approximately in line with Ascended neck items.

Currently, Ascended neck items have +23 total stat points (11 main and 6 off) difference between exotic neck items. That means, with this update, a berserker character will obtain +22 power, and +12 precision over what he had before. (and probably around 2% crit damage)

Zerkers builds with around 3000 power (with full might/bloodthirst stacks) will get around 2-3% more damage from this once they switch to ascended weapons.

On the super crazy lightning hammer Ele that crits for 10k damage per swing, that’s about 300 more damage. (maybe less, I’m being generous)

This does not account for the theoretical increase to weapon damage that we may see with Ascended weapons.

Does this matter? I don’t know, but that is the change we are probably looking at.

And all of the exotics turn into pumpkins @ September 3rd.
Surely Ascended weps will cost a nice chunk of gold. And it would be kinda okay if we needed just One weapon, but we have multiple weapons for different purposes/specs, and upgrading them will be very long and grindy.
I can already see many ppl saying “Well, you don’t HAVE to get them, exotics are still exotics”. And there was a similar talk when Ascended tier itself arrived, but these are Weapons, they don’t only have stats, but also weapon damage, so if you want to be good, you Have to upgrade, many times. (And probably forget about specs that need different stat combos)
How is this not a GRIND of all grinds? And as I remember GW2 ‘’manifesto" saying "There won’t be any grind in our game, grinding is not fun and noone likes it", I gotta say that someone has no respect for their promises.

P.s. I Really hope I am mistaken in all of this and this implementation won’t cause more problems than the ‘advantages’ it gives. And I see it only as anoher-carrot-on-a-stick to keep people playing and grinding for something. Uh.

There should be some amount of grinding or stuff to do in the game. GW2 doesn’t use the carrot on a string methodology that games like WoW use. It isn’t a constant gear grind.

I think that should satisfy people.

If each piece of Ascended gear adds a mere 2% bonus to stats, then a set of fully Ascended gear will be 26% better than exotic gear (6 armor, 5 trinkets, 2 weapons).

You are correct. however, a current character in full Ascended/Exotic gear mix has 6% more stats than a character only in Exotics. Since there have been 6 slots released with Ascended gear, it can be said that each ascended item will give a 1% increase to total effectiveness. Spread across all item slots, that would make a character in ascended gear approximately 12% more effective in combat. Which may have been what he was talking about originally.

Fun trivia fact: Ascended gear appears to be approximately 8-9% better than Exotics, depending on which piece of gear you’re looking at, so the 12% figure cited above is probably an exaggeration. (Trinkets give a lot more stats than armor)

Emphasis is mine. I believe this is the biggest concern about ascended weapons. An increase in weapon damage would have a multiplicative effect with power, precision, and crit damage, and may provide a much larger impact on total damage than the stat boost alone.

Not to mention, a weapon damage increase would further push zerker stats to the pinnacle of gearing, since it would benefit power based damage far more than condition damage or defensive stats.

I guess I was looking at it all wrong. Here I was reading the notes for the update next week and thinking about all the money I was gonna make and all the fun I was gonna have in SAB and the Debbie Downers in this thread ruined it for me. Just kidding. The Debbie Downers in here didn’t ruin it for me. I am gonna make BANK next week selling all the materials I hoarded for the last month. It’s gonna be great.

Are we all playing the same game? All I see in here is doom and gloom. Everyone here is aware you can craft all these new weapons right? You know, with the mats that ArenaNet has given us in ENORMOUS QUANTITIES over the last month from the Pavillion and the Zone Events? Was I the only one making money hand over fist for the last month? Was I the only one storing up TONS of T5 and T6 Mats?
