The Blue Super Backpack was for the original release only. You can still get a Green/Yellow backpack by completing the World 1 and World 2 meta achievements.
I fully support ArenaNet in their decision to stick by their choice to keep the Super Backpack Cover exclusive to those who participated in the first release of the Super Adventure Box. I hate seeing all the arguments about it, so I’m going to put logic behind it all.
Argument #1: People are complaining that they weren’t around for the first release of the Super Adventure Box and is therefore unfair that they cannot obtain the item any more. My response to this is quite simply that some items are supposed to stay exclusive in this game. It shows that players were there for a part of Guild Wars 2 history. The same deal goes with many other items in the game.
Argument #2: Other people are complaining that they didn’t get the time to obtain this skin during the last release of the Super Adventure Box because of other obligations both in real life and in game. This is what I’m going to focus on in this thread.
Back in April when you could buy the Super Backpack Cover it cost 25 Bauble Bubbles and 50 Silver. It was the only item which didn’t have a rare counterpart which could be sold, and was half the price of all the other skins both in Bubbles and Gold.
Assuming you did each map in the Super Adventure Box once per day, you earned 7 Bubbles. You got 2 from the first boss, 2 from the second, 2 from the third and 1 from the Rapids. Along with this you probably collected enough Baubles to make into a Bubble, therefore making 8. But lets continue to assume 7. Finishing every map for this reward shouldn’t have taken any more than 20 to 30 minutes.
If you ran it on two characters per day, you would have made double. Therefore you had 14 potential Bubbles in one day from two characters (possibly 16 if you collected enough Baubles). But again, lets continue to assume 14 per day on two characters. This should have taken less than an hour. Not to mention you could have used all five characters and spent 2 hours 30 minutes and got 35 Bubbles (plus another possible 5 Bubbles with collected Baubles). That could have been 40 Bubbles in one day with 5 characters.
But hell, let’s just assume you did 1 character per day in 20 – 30 minutes and got only 7 Bubbles. If you did this for just 4 days in a row you would have had 28 Bauble Bubbles. This is more than enough to buy the Super Backpack Cover. If this wasn’t enough time for you still, you had not only 4 days, you had 4 WEEKS to collect the Bubbles necessary for the backpack. That was plenty of time.
If you didn’t have 20 – 30 minutes each afternoon for at least 4 days, then I’m dearly sorry that you missed it. But people who worked for that backpack deserve to keep it rare and exclusive. Bringing it back just ruins the aesthetic of it. Nothing in this game is guaranteed to come back, you should get it while it’s here or risk never being able to get it again.

And why should i’ve got a backpack i can’t even see, being an engineer?
I was – i’m still waiting – for the devs to solve our cosmetic issues. And i assumed that a returning content had its rewards returning as well, especially since i wasn’t even able to have some related weapons right then (i could have used only the shield, but the pistols and rifle have been added just now – and only because they didn’t have enough time to create them back then).
And if i wanted to get the pistol now, i must necessarily buy the shield via TP, with inflated prices.
Also, according to your argument, there shouldn’t be neither weapons and backpacks for the next release. So, what should they put? Armors? And nothing in the fourth release and subsequent ones?
Returning content should have its rewards returning as well.

TLDR but if u have that backpack already you are probably the last person having a say over it because it will just make u look that u can’t handle it that people get some bit/bytes reward.

If it returns then i demand the backpacks from southsun that i missed.
It still boggles my mind how people are ready to enter the public forums and ask to support their selfish agendas without shame. Your rhetoric is meaningless and your evidence is only handpicked to support the claim. All I really see is “I got it and I dont want anyone else to have it!”. Defending your right to be able to obtain something – sure, go ahead. Actively appealing to block good stuff from other people becouse you are not willing to share… cant describe it without triggering adult filter.

Exactly my point. If this skin gets bought back, what about all the other exclusive skins in the game? Should we just sell everything rare on the Trading Post? That when a brand new player has enough gold they can have it and look like they were here for the original? It defeats the whole purpose of making things exclusive. Exclusive items show you were around. They’ve provided new alternatives for newer players; that should be enough.

Those events at southsun weren’t a returning content, though. Whileas SAB was created with that exact intent.
I have the backpack skin from SAB and the ones from Southsun. I would be thrilled if other players are provided the opportunity to obtain them in some way. Perhaps through anniversary events or whatever mechanism they decide. I like items because of the way they look. Not because of others not being able to have them.

Counter argument 1: exactly what do you, as a super backpack owner, gain from disallowing other people to gain it? It’s not like your backpack suddenly becomes ugly/useless. it jus means a couple more people own it. Why do you care?
Counter argument 2: What about people who didn’t own the game before april, and thus never even heard of the original SAB event? Should they just be told to suck it for not having been riding the train since it left the first station?
To deny everyone else the chance to get the same stuff that the first group of people got now that the event has rolled around again, is nothing short of infantile. And i’m not really empathising with your ego or sense of entitlement here…

Then that means everything from past events everyone should get entitled too by your statement.
I missed southsun so should i get the backpieces?
I didnt play in halloween should i get everything?
I was brand new in christmas and didnt do everything, should i get everything?
You people only want the super backpack because you dont have one, if you have one you’ll clearly not care about it and realise its not as cool looking and got upstaged by shatterer wings.

First things first… Please do not refer to me as ‘you people’ like i’m some kind of second class citizen…
And i’m not saying the people should get them for free (were it not for this thread i would never have even known there were blue bags, i’ve never seen a player wearing one).
I’m saying that when the same event occurs multiple times (like haloween/SAB/dragon bash, presumably), people should get another chance to EARN the same items. I would like to try getting the acheivements if it would earn me a blue bag, because the blue bag would look like an archetypical asura creation… the yellow/green ones just don’t have that same ‘feel’. There should be options for whatever colour of bag you want.
The problem (as you have already demonstrated) is that exclusivity breeds elitism. I don’t like it when people think they are ‘better than me’ just because i was ‘late to the party’.

Trust me, if it wasnt for the desire of wanting things we can’t have you people wouldnt care about the backpack. I want the southsun backpack because it would match my necro so well, but if i got one at the time i’d probly not care about it as much as not having one.

Wow… that was a lot of text and random maths in order to say, I don’t agree with people who are arguing in other threads because I made a thread of my own.
I got a blue backpack in April. The moment I logged in yesterday I replaced it with the green backpack I retroactively earned from completing everything in April. Green goes better with that character’s outfit. I never really liked the blue backpack because it was blue and clashed. But it was too cool to give up. Now I adore my green and have no interest in replacing it.
I completely disagree with you. I think the blue backpack should come back in the future. If not for the release of World 3 then for World 4 and any releases afterward. I actually think all the weapons that were available for World 1 and now for World 2 should be released together for World 3, and then for World 4 it should be the weapons and the backpack, but instead of being half price it should be twice the price.

I agree, i probably won’t wear the blue backpack even if i COULD get it (none of my characters would ‘look right’ with that pack, except for maybe my blue suited asura) but that’s not the point, and you know it.
Why should the rewards be time-sensitive at all? why not just make the reward for this SAB a [2nd gen super backpack] which looked exactly the same, but was by it’s nametag clearly recognisable as not being an original? Not only does it save the devs work in creating extra item skins, but it reaches the happy medium between the casuals who want the item, and the hardcore who care about the knowledge that they got the item first.
Again why shouldn’t there be a second southsun event in the future that will allow people to get the backpacks again? Apart from soothing the egos of the elitists. And why do you truly care if people who didn’t/couldn’t get the item before get it now?

I had 2 of them, and overwrote one. They aren’t that special looking anyways.
I have the backpack and shield on my asura engineer and i dont think i will ever be changing them (mainly cos she’s an alt) Yer i can understand peoples frustration at missing them first time around but if we dont move on and bring new skins out for repeat events then people wouldnt have anything to get for new skins.
I guess in the end the game must move on and evolve.

All I really see is “I got it and I dont want anyone else to have it!”.
Thats all I see when people post these thread supporting the removal of temporary items. God I hate people that think that way. Especially with stuff thats luck based, like the kitten jetpack.

I agree, some things should be brought back every once in a while. What I’d love more is that the stuff that was rewards for the meta achievements (or any achievement) be added to that new section where the AP rewards go, so we can get said skins more than once. That way if we happen to delete the one we had/used when it was the current LS, we can get it back anytime.

I don’t have the backpack. Actually I missed SAB the first time around and most of Frost and Flame; I entirely agree with the OP. Some things are meant to be exclusive. They are a visual indicator of “I was here when…”.
It adds an intrinsic value and meaning to the item rather than just being another random piece of pixel crack.
At the same time, late comers shouldn’t be totally denied access to something equivalent. Thus alternate rewards. Players that were there for the premier of SAB could get a neat backpack. Players that came after can get a different color or variation. I think it would be neat to bring the old weapon skins back but add the flavor text “Replica Edition 1”. Then you have this neat weird market where SAB premier skins are worth more than replicas and older replicas might be worth more than newer ones just because that text is visible to the user and in gear pings.
Anyway, point here being your judgement on the OPs character could be very quickly turned back to you. Because I could say it sounds to me like you have a selfish agenda that makes you think you are entitled to everything everyone else has.
Look at it this way, if the OP went to the premier of a movie and they were giving out signed posters to those specific attendees, would you rage on the theater for not giving you the same thing the next weekend? If a game has special midnight release swag do you ask for the manager of the store when you cant get it the next day? Do you begrudge those that made arrangements and stood in line for either of those things? A reasonable person answers no to all of those. A selfish person with a false sense of consumer entitlement would answer yes.
Would I like a Frog skinned backpack? Sure. Do I have to have the exact same one as the people that were there for the launch of the event, diminishing the personal value that that item’s history and exclusivity holds for them? No, I’m not nine anymore. My mommy doesn’t need to buy me the same toy as my brother to keep us from fighting. So Ill happily take whatever backpack reward item this year has for completing the meta.

Argument #1 – I was here for April’s SAB. I had 100% achievements.
Argument #2 – I farmed several hundred BB in April, I still have a reserve stack of 250.
Nobody told us in April that some skins would be one-time only and that we had to get them then or never be able to again. Even if I had spent all my BB on SAB skins, there was no way to know it was the Backpack, specifically, that would become exclusive to that event. I could have spent all my BB on weapon skins and ended up in the same boat. Especially as I main engi, backpack would be at the bottom of my list, I’d equip my alts with weapon skins before getting a backpack that wouldn’t even show up on my character most of the time.
So, seeing as to how I was there for the event and have more than enough ability to purchase the skin, why is it that I can’t? Your argument has no logic to it other than “I’m a hipster, I got a backpack before it was cool.”
Note, I’m saying this as somebody who happens to actually not care about skins, but if I did, I would easily be part of the crowd that was unjustly left out without any warning and would have plenty good reason to be kitten ed off about it.

The original poster’s comments are irrelevant. He doesn’t address the following problems:
-SAB was overlapped with another Living Story chapter which also ate up people’s time,
-SAB was promised to come back, which implied all rewards would return as well,
-Anet never warned people the backpack would not be returning.
Not to mention the fact that maybe some people didn’t have the “minimum required time” that the original poster has calculated in order to force themselves to play content that they were told is coming back later anyway.
Some people work. Some people have lives, families, or go on vacations. And some of those people liked SAB and wanted the rewards associated with it, but are excluded from ever getting them. That is the issue.

This is the worst argument ever. You get a skin for how it looks on your character, at least I assume so. Because its aesthetically pleasing. Other people having it doesn’t ruin the aesthetic. It simply makes you less special, which is an ego thing.
That’s like saying because I have a print of the Mona Lisa in my house, the actual value of the real painting decreases by half. Ridiculous. I have no idea why it seems only elitist gamers are subject to this delusion.

I farmed 25 bauble bubbles back in April for the skin and by all means it was not hard to get in the least. Bring it back for new players to enjoy. This nonsense of keeping certain skins unobtainable so a small group of players can feel some sort of false accomplishment or uniqueness is laughable.

Wow. I can’t believe a thread like this exists. Yet it does. Sigh.
Okay, time to sort my thoughts.
I was around for the first time the Super Adventure Box came out. I gathered up enough bauble bubbles to get the old skins that I wanted, including the backpack.
That being said, I feel that the old skins should be back. There is no reason for them not to come back.
Ruining the aesthetic? Seriously? By that logic, the Fused and Sclerite skins had their aesthetics ruined by being on the Trading Post, as well as every Legendary weapon.
That’s no excuse.
Speaking of the Trade Post, just because the old skins are there (the rare sellable ones) doesn’t mean Moto shouldn’t sell them again. Again, no excuse.
I got the backpack and the other skins I wanted because I like the way they looked for my character. Not to look exclusive, or show off to other players “Hey, I was around when this box first came out!”
I got it because I wanted it and liked it. And I feel that other players that weren’t here the first time, or just didn’t have the time for it before, should have a chance for it now.

I really don’t see what would be the big deal about players being able to earn it again now. I got a couple extras (the tradable kind) in my Bank, and also grinded my way to get one for sPvP and another PvE/WvW as well. It wouldn’t bother me the slightest if newer players were able to earn something I earned a long(er) time ago. Why in the world would that bother you?
It’d be healthier for the game as a whole if there’s more aethetic options to choose from. Something to please almost everyone. Removing the ability to obtain the skins again was a silly decision from ArenaNet’s part in the first place, just like the whole idea behind this initial batch of Living Story deployments has been. Temporary content that just gets ripped out again does not expand upon the game.
We’ve had a small expansions worth of content that new players can’t even play. I find that annoying, even if I personally have been present for all of them.

The original people who supported SAB and made sure of it’s success that ensured it was brought back so the new people enjoying on the second time round for the first time are welcome.
The people late to the party can still enjoy SAB, the achievements and any of the old weapons through the TP.
You miss out on ONE thing, that the originals lay claim too.

I supported SAB (on the forums and in game) but didn’t pick up the backpack. Of course that thing is so kitten ugly, I wouldn’t want one now. I’d be fine with new people having the chance at one still :P
