Bauble achievements should be changed, IMO
Agreed. It would also be nice if we had a counter somewhere displaying x/y baubles found.
Yes, this makes a whole lot of sense. Therefore I support having a counter.
It would be more in line with old school UI anyway.
OOOOHHHH I absolutely know what you mean …. i was looking for the “last” bauble in zone 2 for over 1 hour (by using a guide) and was absolutely sure that i got them all. But I didnt get an achievement. So i kept looking …
I didnt know that I have to kill the boss to get it! >_< Would have saved me 90 minutes if i knew it before ….
And yeah, a counter would really help if you want to find them on your own. If you use a step by step guide like me i dont think its necessary ^^"
I entirely agree with this. The current set-up seems to encourage Google rather than exploration. I’d love to go for it if I could just spend hours exploring and actually having fun hunting for the baubles, but this set-up just isn’t that.
Popping the achievement on finding the last bauble would make it more fun, less frustrating, and wouldn’t encourage people to rely on guides as much. Seems an obvious choice to me.
I ended up using Dulfy’s guide because it’s the only way of knowing whether you have them all before doing the boss. A counter would’ve meant I would have tried to do it on my own, without the tedium of having to re-do it all over again if I missed one without knowing.
+1 for you, this little change would go a long way.
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

I also used a guide for this reason. Even so, I ended up missing one and had to repeat the whole zone twice more until I realized my mistake.
I agree with this! Course I’d also like peeps to have to do it normally for the jumping puzzle title and not get it through the super easy rainbow mode. Kinda doesn’t make sense to have a jumping puzzle title when you skipped the jumping part for well the most part.
You have to complete it on normal to get the title. A lot of the baubles require jumping skills where the rainbow doesn’t help.

same here used the guide for zone 3 and twice failed.
it’s more frustrating not knowing then all the jumping aspects combined.
I really hope they decide to add a bauble counter.
While I already have all 3 bauble achievements, I got them using guides so kindly put together by fellow players.
However, with a counter I probably would’ve have scoured each area myself to find them (but without said counter, I really didn’t want to risk going through the whole zone only to find out at the end I missed something with no way to go back and get it.)

+1 for counter, but make the achi pop only after you’ve killed the zone’s boss.
The reason all of the above posters used a guide has nothing to do with a counter, it’s your need to have video games be played for you and not willing to invest anytime in learning or doing things for yourself. I don’t have much sympathy that you think you should complete an achievement in absolutely no more then 1 play through.
I say add a counter but put it only in infantile mode and also make entering infantile mode trigger an account wide 24 hour debuff that makes all their characters appear in game in a bonnet and a diaper.

This I would support.
The remainder of your post was unnecessarily antagonistic, though. You may have a valid opinion in there, but you mask it well with insults.

What’s the harm in letting players know whether or not they’ve gotten all the baubles before leaving the zone? Also, there are counters for the secret rooms – so why is a bauble counter any different?
Oh btw – in the original Guild Wars I ran well over 20,000 chests and got GWAMM on multiple characters. And so I’m definitely not afraid at working towards something.
But in this case I really think the game is lacking a key feature that would allow players to get the bauble achievement in a much more reasonable fashion (i.e. go back and get a missing bauble(s) as opposed to redoing the entire zone).
Hmm, this is a conflicted side-effect of the concept of “Achievements” in games. Just having an achievement for finding all the secret things is kind of a spoiler that there are secret things, and how many of them there are.
Although, in this case, I would agree with a counter. If necessary, reset the counter to zero each time we enter until it’s actually completed (if the intention is to count baubles gained in a single run). Either that, or don’t tell us how many there are and just make it a binary “All or Nothing” thing which triggers as soon as you grab the last one. Super Adventure Box is best expressed through exploration and platforming challenges, not in guessing whether we fulfilled the goals of the achievements or not. Telling us whether or not we crossed the finish line is not the same as carrying us to the end.

It shouldn’t be tied to killing the boss. I have gone through multiple times almost certain I had them all. Double and triple checking, counting etc. Only to get to the boss and not get the achievement. I get it. I can beat it, do the jumps, etc. But at this point it is just frustrating.
Ok, you guys don’t seem to understand the acheivement, so I’ll try to break it down for you. The reason there is no counter and the reason it is tied to killing the boss is because the acheivement is for collecting all the baubles in a single run.
If you collect all the baubles, then run out lives before defeating the boss you did not succeed in the acheivement. Since you start from scratch when you enter the zone again the acheivement can’t actually track it, because they’re not designed to reset themselves. Having some other mechanic in the UI that was tracking the baubles would be extremely lame, it would either only count up for baubles that are part of the acheivements, or count down to zero, both of which would not fit into the game design in any reasonable way.
So sorry guys, you’re just going to have to deal with it like everyone else. I also have to run Zone 3 again because I missed a bauble somewhere and have no idea where, and I was following the dulfy guide at the time. It was probably on the falling leaf upper level at the beginning of the last area.

I’m not sure there needs to be a counter. However getting the achievement before the boss is a good idea I think.
I can see how the counter would be useful, but it risks making the achievement slightly less valuable (altho there are ppl who look it up on guides anyway so prob counters that argument).
The other thing is that not having a counter is in keeping with its retro roots. Logical and useful things like counters are a modern game trait.
I think that adding a counter in Infantile mode is a good compromise. (Besides, I think everybody who’s trying for the Bauble achievements is doing it in Infantile mode anyway.)

I’m thinking that a LOT of the people with the title have used the guide. I want the counter specifically so I can try to get it without using a guide, so I can feel like I actually earned my title. The game is about hunting and jumping, not gambling that we’ve got every single bauble before killing the boss.
Your retro argument is quite good, but although 8-bit games didn’t have counters, the 3-D platformers that this game actually resembles DID. Banjo Kazooie being the one that springs to mind first. It really isn’t out of style to have a counter on screen if we acknowledge that the game does borrow from these games as well.

Actually I got all zone one and two baubles in normal, but I did use a guide for the more difficult ones to locate.
I will probably do zone three in infantile though.
This thread is not about a counter, but having the boss kill being a necessity for the achievement. That requirement should be removed, or the boss kill shouldn’t automatically port you from the zone. Again just my opinion, but I don’t think a counter is needed.
Let’s try to stay on topic, thanks!

I also used Dulfy’s guide for Z3 and failed, after having spent 3 hours making sure I got everything. I was not pleased.
I wouldn’t have even bothered with a guide if the achievement wasn’t dependent upon ending the level (or if there were a counter). I have no problem exploring, but I do have a problem dedicating that much time to it only to find out past the point of no return that I missed something.

Over the weekend I had the same experience with zone 3. Took me 2.5 hours and I missed one. The second try took under an hour though, and I got them all.
I was originally on the side of having a counter. but after I found all of them I realized it was my own stupidity and bad treasure hunting that pushed me towards a counter. so I recant my want of a counter I prefer to find things the hard/fun way.
Made 6 runs in World 1 3rd zone, using dufflys guide and exploring myself, got all the bubles – no achievement… i am getting desperate.

I was the same way, I counted out all 54 individual baubles in the zone and swore I didn’t have the acheivement. Then I checked and it turned out it had snuck in on me and I never noticed.

OFF topic:
That may be, but it’s also Celeras’s thread. If they would like it to stay on topic, they’re welcome to “self-moderate” by reporting posts that go off topic. In this case, they made a request rather than reporting the post.
Back ON topic:
While I think it would be nice to have the achievement trigger before the boss kill, I think it’s a little bit against the goal of the achievement. They want you to make sure you don’t kill the boss before you get all the baubles. A counter would solve this issue, but would also be against the intent, imo.
Since other achievements within SAB will trigger without a boss kill, maybe this one should too. I don’t think you should be able to stay in the zone after killing the boss though.
Logic will never win an argument on the forums…..only a sense of entitlement will.

Is 54 the total amount of baubles you need for Z3? I’m trying to get a number before I attempt the achievement again, unfortunately a lot of the people who’ve made video guides started with baubles already in their inventory (and/or buy stuff along the way) so it’s difficult to tell.
Edit: Oh, nvm, 54 isn’t the total, just the number of individual baubles. Reading comprehension FTW. ;P Would still like to know the total needed before fighting the Z3 boss to make sure nothing was missed.

I’d definately like the achievement to pop just based on getting all the baubles, and not only come up when the boss dies. Seems like kind of a wierd design choice to do it this way, and like you said, it makes it so that rather than just hunting and eventually getting it, you have to grab all you can find, beat the boss, and pray. If you lose, then start all over.
It makes it that much more tedious.
Yeah, alot of them are too easy to acheive.
