When a ranged AOE can kitten a chest in 5 seconds, loot it and move on, while a melee (warrior for example) has to deal with the spammed short-ranged stun/knockdown/knockback spewfest from the QBert rejects… I’m left wondering…
Do Devs play only Ranged DPS or do you just hate melee that much?
Seriously? A freaking TIMER on looting the rewards?
By the time I kill the 5-6 mobs spam-bouncing my warrior all over the place, the drops despawn.
All I can say is thank goodness the rewards skins are about the most ridiculously pathetic things that have been released. If they’d been decent, I’d be truly upset in the Dev’s thoroughness.
Perhaps the next fugly thing you release will have a reflection bubble spam so ranged DPS can “feel the love” too.

I haven spot that many enemies, 2 people can solo run the whole SAB. Its more entertaining if you have a whole party though.

If you want to do it with a low party (less than 5) and as fast as you can, run to the bee hives with your team, get all the baubles and take the shortest route. Bonus if you have someone with bombs and knows all the secrets(you need to wiki them).

Think he meant the open world chests.

Just farm them in the starter zones. I never get kbed or such with those while in melee, plus they melt like butter.

(Also the skins are awesome, but I’ll excuse you calling them pathetic just because you seem very angry at the moment.)

I hear you. At times I feel like people play with their utility skills glued to their bar.

It’s good to try to post and help, though, that way people can learn.

To the original poster: No, it’s not anti-melee.
Melee characters have many tools to avoid getting tossed around like a rag doll. The first of which is to dodge, but barring that, the “Stability” mechanic will enable you to stand your ground.

More info on it can be found here:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stability

It just so happened you referenced a Warrior, and the Warrior is a class with many stability mechanics, most of which last a very long time.

The two that are quick to cool down and easiest to access are:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dolyak_Signet
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Balanced_Stance

Each of these lasts 8 seconds. Either one should be long enough to take care of business with the powerful damage the warrior packs, but you can use both if need be. Stability stacks in duration.

There are certainly other ways to access stability:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rampage

The banner object also has an activated skill for stability, I believe.

So to reply: applying the skills you have to the situations you need is far more important than thinking “anti-melee” or “anti-range” or “anti-squishies” or “anti-boons”. Luckily, this is a relatively simple problem you are having right now, and can be solved with a single skill!

I guess that sounds about right.

Melees melt through mobs, especially in open world, much much faster tho – for the cost of some extra effort, as some might perceive it (which imho is silly in the first place – you can faceroll nearly everything even in melee, or at least as faceroll it as while ranged). Every ‘melee class’ has ranged weapons, too, if you want to have it easier but a bit longer.

The rage aside he does have a point, and its not limited to melee. The despawn timer on the rewards from the world chest is too short. Having to weave through triple serpent shots and jotun knockbacks in the attempt to loot the first bauble makes me not want to do chests. The problem already annoyed me with wintersday but I figured its not worth bringing up. However if they use the same method for this and possibly further events (down to the same spawn points), they should increase the despawn timer for the reward item.

Of course you can give suggestions to avoid knockback, adds or choosing other skills, but there is really no harm done by letting them stay a minute longer and the whole matter would be off the table, no complaints. The “for fun” temporary content should not be aggravating (unless its a JP, then all bets are off)

Also annoying: the already close to despawn baubles being on/near a dead npc or harvest node so you cant pick it up before rezzing/harvesting, and by then its gone.

Just grab the baubles as you kill each mob, dont wait to pick them up after you kill them all. Thats how i do it and i never missed one.

faceroll? My poor low level engineer would disagree with you. Every time the chess spawns enemies like for example snakes I’m dodging left and right because one hit equals half my health gone.
Have all classes here. 6/8 level 80s. Personally I found that the most movement requiring ones are elementalist and thief, warrior and guardian normally can take a hit.

I dunno man. I just pre-cast Chaos Storm then open up with Phase Retreat for Chaos Armor and Blink right back in (bypass knockdown with PR and Blink).

Swap to Sword/Sword and hit things with my Wooden Swords. Oh wait, I just realized I still hit those things with Wooden Swords, hahahahahaha.

Actually the baubles from the open world chests are despawning too quickly.

Yeah, I saw that, too. I end up having to loot mid-battle, which is annoying because of the loot animation (it also makes me feel bad, greedy and dirty).

Not quite. Ranged tends to have to worry about enemies coming into melee. 1v1, most Ranged can keep an enemy at bay, but when it comes to multiple enemies, the Ranged classes can be in a pinch if their cooldowns are down or they are cc’ed. Of course, dodging projectiles is easier from afar than melee, but in melee you should pay attention to the animation.

When I’m actually playing (I have a Staff/Sword+Sword Mesmer) in PvE, I have smart usage of utilities regardless of my range, but I tend to faceroll with my Swords (melee). I have a stacking sigil on my staff and I usually have to mentally restrain my hands from weapon swapping so I can defeat my enemies faster.

Thing is… there are no melee chars in GW2.

Heck, even if your build is melee focused nothing stops you from carrying a ranged weapon (haven’t played a warrior since the beta weekends, but I do remember them having VERY good ranged AoE with bows), and switch to it as soon as you spot a chest.

And that comes from someone playing one of the most ranged unfriendly professions in the game (guardian) and killing chests easily with staff (well, I use the greatsword swirly attack when they just pop out and are nicely grouped and switch to staff when they spread out).

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Not every play style makes sense or is perfectly adapted for every situation; be willing to adapt. Carry a rifle and/or bow if you can’t figure out how to deal with the enemies in melee.

To clarify, ranged is not faceroll. Ranged attacks do less dps (longer fight) and they also have to dodge/kite or cc the mobs to do it otherwise they’re in melee too.

Ugh, those snakes. Seems the projectiles in their spread has a hit box twice the size of the actual models used. Again and again i think i have sidestepped a projectile only to have it send me flying. So when you have 5 of them spamming spreads of them on every attack it becomes a nightmare.

Even more if a event of some kind happens to tick off nearby or something else makes the usual mobs more aggressive.

ANet seems to be on a knockdown binge between this and the sonic periscopes…

Everyone has to dodge the attacks, melee & range. And if you can group em up (bunnies) you can cleave em fast. Not all ranged classes can burn em down that fast. I’m an Engi and I have to use all my skills (knockbacks, dodges, swiftness, aoe attacks, blinds, etc) to keep from getting hit by the snake spread. Stop whining cuz it’s not lolfaceezmod. Use your longbow or rifle if you’re a warrior and use dolyak sig. It’s not like you have to be dungeon-level optimized for these chests. They’re quite easy. Just fight the 8bit stuff and pick up your loot mid battle. I do.

My comment was aimed at people who told it’s not anti-melee but you have to either use ranged or start dodging/using utilities. At least for me this implicates that ranged wouldn’t need to dodge.
I don’t have much experience with chests so and it got me bit confused so I needed a clarification. At least on dungeons, ranged is so often much much easier/simpler than melee.
But thanks for clearing it up!
