Constructive Criticism of SAB
The team that worked on this has been stated to be quite small, hence the lack of skins for pistols, rifles etc
If it took away from the development time of anything, it was likely a tiny, tiny loss.
We’re also still getting more content this month, the next part of flame and frost.
There’s another team working on a content update for the end of this month.
Sylvari/Thief – WIP; Human/Necromancer – WIP
While I find this box extremely fun, and fully worth adding in the game. I wonder if it would of been more beneficial for the Guild Wars 2 team to work on content that is not time limited to a single month.
Like new fractals, new dungeons, new content, while this falls under new content. If it only is around once in awhile something else would of been more beneficial for long term play.
All the more reason to not remove Super Adventure Box at the end of the month, as far as I’m concerned.
I get what you’re saying, although I doubt the creation of this fun diversion actually impeded development of more crucial features. What would the S.A.B. team have made, if not this? Would it have been better? Worse? Maybe they would have essentially made the exact same kind of instanced jumping puzzle, where we collect baubles and everything, but put a more normal, Tyrian aesthetic to it than the retro video game look that gained it so much attention.
It’s a game within a game. I don’t feel like Super Adventure Box is adding anything to Guild Wars 2. The reason people want it in the game isn’t because they like Guild Wars 2 but because they like Super Adventure Box.
It lacks replayability, once you know the locations you know them forever.
It’s not part of Tyria. Like video games are an escape to the real world, SAB is an escape from the world of Tyria.
If I could choose as an addition to Guild Wars 2, between a jumping puzzle within Tyria and a jumping puzzle as a more or less stand alone platformer, then I would pick a jumping puzzle within Tyria.
I actually am a little disappointed that this is supposed to be the “mother of all jumping puzzles”.
And I could go on. Regardless I really like SAB at this moment, just not as a permanent addition to Guild wars 2. It’s best continued upon as a stand-alone.
EDIT: Regardless of how big the team is, I feel like these people are very talented artists, in their respective jobs. And as such, I would say, they would actually add a great deal to Guild Wars 2. Yeah, that’s a compliment, Josh. =P

There’s another team working on a content update for the end of this month.
Do you remember the dev blog on why the living story had been delivered in ‘teasers’? It mentioned developers rolling off other projects who would now be available for the living story.
No matter how you structure teams, developer resources are always scare. For any initiative there is a prioritization process that takes place where what is deemed most important is worked on to the exclusion of other worthwhile initiatives. The problem with monthly events is that they are monthly and must take place. Anet has made them a core part of their value proposition. The problem with this is that the true game in the game, i.e., GW2, suffers as a result. Core game, profession balance, content balance, bug fixes, is what should be occupying developers as the top priority and it’s not.
That’s a problem with SAB, but it’s no different than any of the other monthly event.
I’ll just copy/paste my comment from another post that wants to make SAB permanent:
“Lets look at this from a different angle shall we?
Now we all moan about the lack of content in the game and how we want new things to be added right? Well think about it, it took AN a while developing this funky dungeon. We have to consider that we are still in Year-1 of game development so all the events we get for Wintersday/Halloween/Easter etc… Are the foundations for what we will get year after year henceforth, with minor tweaks each year to add a little extra. This means LESS WORK for AN.
Now I realise it’s their job to develop things, but wouldn’t you rather forsake this dungeon for the promise that AN will start working on better content for us as of August this year? Lets be fair, with these time limited events it means AN don;t have to make a new one each year and so they can focus on the things that really matter in the game, like balancing, Better Dynamic Events, More META events, Expansions and so on…
Not only would I happily give up this awesomely retro dungeon, but i’d gladly spend months farming a legendary and give it back to AN just for the pleasure of seeing more content in the game.
So I say, keep it as an Easter event for the following years to come and let AN get on with setting up the foundations of the game so all they have to do in future is “flick a switch” to turn the events on at the relevent times, meaning they have a lot more time giving us better content around the world.
All I’m gonna add to this is, Don’t forget there are still a few more elder dragons on the loose that haven’t even been created yet…
All in all I have to say -1 on this post. Though I will admit my initial thought was the same “Make it permanent”, though sometimes we have to think “outside the box” (haha, Get it?)
Sorry if this upset’s anyone!”
The real problem is they need to add more long-lasting content, stuff that you will continually be-able to play and adds to the overall game experience adding more re-playability after level 80.
Anet has already stated they have no intentions currently to make a series of expansions, they simply have it as a possible option in the future. Therefore you need to ask where do you really want to see the game in say 6 months?
It feels like its missing something from a PvE perspective, UW, FoW, DoA, hard mode and vanquishing, come to mind. All we have now is Fractals, and Dungeons, both of which get dull after 500 runs.
