So why are we getting handed Super Mario Bros?

I agree.
I hate it.

I know the devs invested time and effort into this, and i really dont want to be rude…
but I think it was better if they invested this effort to build new fractals ( or god fobid fix the CC in the game… )

For the ignorant, take a look at GW1 on April Fools’ Day (in the later stages of its life):

We got a terminator-esque mission, a helicopter, A.R.E.N.A.N.E.T. commandos from the future, and all the fun things therein, along with tongue-in-cheek patch notes.

I’d expect no less for GW2, and it was delivered – and I’m loving this immensely. Put Josh Foreman in charge of everything, because everything he’s done (that I’m aware of) has been pure gold. Screw work scheduling, just make him work nonstop but give him other people’s payrolls. Given balance seems to be rolling dice on what to ‘fix’, and people are having more fun with rather unrewarding (but incredibly fun!) PvE content than anything that’s been done to WvW… this speaks leagues about who’s working on what.

You know, come to think of it I can’t imagine how much whining would be going on if they actually did a GW1 styled april fools day event. I mean really if they’re complaining about a fun bit of content referencing retro gaming then their reaction upon logging in to find your characters had been gender swapped, turned into stick figures/chibi-dolls/mini-pets would be, well, priceless really.

Welcome to Guild Wars folks, ANet loves their holidays so get used to it, loosen up and enjoy the party.

Stop it. Okay?

No, it’s not okay. That’s why I started this thread. I really would like an answer.

If this sort of thing is what gamers want, please box it and sell it as a stand-alone, and keep this fly outta the soup. Jumping puzzles in a war-lore MMO has got to be the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.

First off this game is not a “War-lore” game. GW1 was closer to that than this because it was closer to the the era where the game got its name from. The term “Guild Wars” is based on the wars between "Ascalon’ and “Kryta” and the guilds that fought for either side. In GW1 those “wars” are 50 years done or so. So all the guild vs guild things in GW1 were more to honor the guilds that came before. GW1 was fond of “honoring” old memories. In GW2, which is 250 years after, much of the old things from GW1 are dead, both literally and figuratively. Ascalon fell, Orr has come back (It was gone in GW1 because of the wars that had occurred between Kryta and Ascalon) infested with dead things and the main threat comes from 5 (possibly 6) dragons. Elona is now under the control of Palawa Joko (An undead lich/mummy thing) and Cantha is now being controlled by a tyrannical emperor with some serious xenophobic issues.

So as the game stands now its more “Us” vs “The dragons”. There are some other groups out there that stand in the way, such as the Flame Legion, Nightmare Court, and possibly the dredge (debatable here), but there are no outright “Guild vs Guild” things going on at the time. Again this title is just a “In memory of…” reference to the first Guild Wars that came before GW1 lore wise.

As to the Super Adventure Box, This is just an example of “Asuran Technology” at its best. They have a floating (or at least balancing) city cube that puts all the other cities to shame in its shear size. The Asura were not really heavily ingrained in the GW1 society so we didn’t get to see that much of this type of incredib(ly over the top) type of technology before.

I hope that clarifies some things.

Because fun is serious business.

It’s a kitten conspiracy. Kittens gonna be kittens. All is vain!
