For some reason I usually have a hard time trying to target the boss. I tried clicking tab or clicking on him. I also miss the throws when i throw jewel shards at his mouth.

The only thing you can really do is grab the slingshot, stand on the stone far away from him and practice till you get the feel for it.

I usually wait until he opens mouth, quickly click on the gaping hole, then quickly throw.

Trying to target him before he opens mouth seems to target the necklace instead (I think).

If you have baubles to spare (and you should if you’ve been speed running a bit) this is definitely the way to go.

When I’m doing this normally though, I always wait for him to begin the animation and once he opens his mouth, I click to target, and toss a shard.

There seems to be some odd limit to the range, so I like to make sure I’m in the center large lilypad.

I stand on the left rock (if you’re facing him) and target a toad in the background, on the highest point (to the right). If you do the angle right, you’ll still hit the toad.

You have to mash 1 since you can’t auto attack, but you never lose the target, so that’s good.

Auto-target works wonders here if you are having trouble. I’m a noob and still have it on by default cause I PvE a lot and need to target things I can’t see.
