First of all, I haven’t really been up-to-date with Guild Wars 2. I got 100% exploration and rank 34 in PvP, then left the game due to the nonexistent PvP reward system. So if anything I say isn’t true, feel free to correct me.
Arenanet puts a lot of time in holiday events or other celebrated days. Though the events are mostly fun, they usually disappear and don’t really add any RPG to the game.
I feel they’re neglecting developing real content for the game due to these events, the replay value of current content is also rather low. It is mostly very story-based (which is fine, but once again that lowers the replay value).
The thing that keeps me, and 90% of the MMO community playing, is a combination of fun and rewarding content. This is (as far as I can tell) the reason why people enjoy raiding so much. They’re having fun with friends, fighting against bosses, and also get rewards out of it.
I know GW2 has dungeons but the issue with that is:
5-man groups are easily formed out of strangers, this pulls people towards playing solely for the reward and establishes a bland, grindy enviroment.
The reward is easily acquired, I’ve had times where I had collected my full dungeon armor before the dungeon even became remotely boring.
So yeah, in my opinion simple changes to this game like a reward system and extra playmodes in pvp. And some replayable content that has a healthy combination of pure fun, and also rewarding gameplay could really help this game on its way.
Cause really, this game is amazing, as Guild Wars 1 was. But Guild Wars 1 had a lot of added value, like the incredible builds you could make in pvp that really made it outshine the (already) standard builds every class in Guild Wars 2 has.
