SAB: Ok what kind of game is this?
Stop being so grumpy, it’s a bit of harmless fun!
If you really don’t enjoy it do not take part in it, avoid Rata Sum, do not open the mysterious boxes!

Sure ill just turn off all the sound to so i dont ahve to here anoying 8bit music in the load screen, or the anoying sounds of all the effects and pets running around.
Im not a RP player or anything but i like to be immersed in a world when i play, and this stuff destroys it.
Im happy some like it I really am, but this game is turning into something other than a fantasy mmo. Personally this makes me sad.
It’s just a bit of fun for April. And judging by the Super Adenture Box forum, it’s extremely popular with many calling for it to be permanent.
It’s fair if you don’t like it, but just ignore it
Wow at how down people are lol who can’t take a joke and have fun with things.. The content is optional, you can avoid it pretty much. People seriously need to lighten up..

Im not saying i dont like it, its fun, however it doesnt fit in this game, it makes no sense to me and destroys any sense of immersion of the game.
whatever theres no point arguing this, im done with the game, ill check back in a few months and see if its been improved.
Only reason im sitting here kittening now is cause im waiting for something else to download.
Still a shame, hope Anets gets there kitten together.
I have to agree to a point. Though even the core game is somewhat lacking in grittiness… akin to Warhammer Online or the upcoming Elder Scrolls MMO. It’s a matter of taste and Anet seems to be straddling the line between serious and silly (even aside from the April Fools stuff)
Yeah… i don’t like this kitten too, im not a 35 year old gamer who wants to “remember his childhood”, 8bit sounds are anoying as kitten and the kitteny models aren’t better.
250 years of time is no small amount in the realm of technological and scientific advancement. Throwing magic in the mix can just speed things up.
Props to ANet for not making another fantasy world that stagnates for millenia.
Im 34 and my first impression is that maybe it appeals to the xbox kids, all I know is its not what i signed on for.

Oh really, so the asurans magiclly invented retro 8 bit arcade game items, ok cool, well maybe soon they can also invent a magic burger king where i can get a burger and win a chance at a paper crown.
Cause thats the world thats starting to get made, its already hard enough taking anything seriously when i saw a 8 foot tall charr warrior with a bouncing quaggan back pack on, an anoying sounding 8bit digital pet is even worse.

We already have hamburgers. And veggieburgers too. A comment made in Flame and Frost implied that the Molten Alliance is on the verge of creating its own computer. Asura themselves have created golems, essentially large robots with functional AI, so they have computers as well. Is it really so hard to believe that an Asura decided to use that computational power in another way and, through magic, bring those digital creations into reality?

Ok sure you win, im sure it can be explained however you want, at the end of the day, some people will love it, some will hate it, me I play fantasy mmo’s for the fantasy, If i want Scifi I will play a scifi mmo (defiance tomorrow woooo) (wild star hell yeah)
But looks like this game is losing the fantasy for cheap nonsensical garbage.
whats funny is im so annoyed now, Ive actually went and signed up for the new neverwinter game….i mean really cryptic theyve never made a good game.
But I like my fantasy fantasy.
I Love this update, one of the most enjoyable times I have had in an MMO in a long time, and these games were even before my time as a gamer.

Although I agree that Tyria’s world feels very… inconsistent (I mean, someone who wants to role-play as a medieval knight should play a different game, because in GW2, they will get a slap in the face the moment they leave Kryta and enter Asura’s or Charr’s territory), this new mini-game’s “technology” is perfectly possible with the estabilished Asura’s lore.
It’s clear that GW2’s direction is going into a “westernized” anime-ish/ japanese rpg-ish technologically hybrid fantasy world, than a dry-and-brown or a Tolkienesque fantasy setting.
EDIT: A medieval setting does not automatically mean it’s fantasy, and a futuristic setting does not automatically mean it’s science fiction. This is pretty much “science fantasy”.

It’s April Fool’s Day so I was more than ready to give this day some extra suspension of disbelief and enjoy whatever awesome surprise Anet concocted us. They never failed to surprise us in GW1, and they’ve just gone over the top of awesomeness with this one
Chillax mate ! Your good ol’ fantasy game is still there and all this joyous April Fool nonsense will be gone by the end of the month. Some fancy login screen music seems far from impossible to overcome to me
(You can still use the custom music functionnality if you really hate it that much)
I agree with you OP but its apparent that the great majority really doesnt give a crap about immersion, story and lore, so there is no point telling them otherwise.
The content is fun gameplay wise (and i really do enjoy playing with my friends atm), but i really wish Anet would stop being funny and actually write and immerse us into Tyria and not Minecraft 64.
Next event: We all get super powers and spandex costumes.
GW1 had lore-breaking events too – how does a commando fit into the lore there? Don’t be such a grump. It won’t be there forever. Ignore it if you wish, while the rest of us have fun with it.
Anet has a track record of doing pretty ridiculous things during April Fools day, it’s just a quirk you have to live with one day of the year.

Wait, you never visited Rata Sum before this event or what? GW2 never was pure medieval fantasy ever since Asuras were introduced in GW1.
Its april fools for all the grumpy people! The rest of us just get to enjoy new content~ :P

No paper party hats yet as far as I am aware but thats a different mmo game called Runescape….

I don’t think having one extremely localized instance of 8-bit fun breaks the immersion in this game. Regarding the character selection screen, how long do most people stay in it anyway?
People here…just wow.
Lighten the skritt up.

Mmorpgs are every type of game most of the time they may have there main story set in an fantasy type but they have many side games attached to them. In effect even pvp is not a fantasy type its a pvp game or a 3ed person fighter game (well in GW2 other games with out active game play tend to be more of a turn base pvp). I would not be shocked seeing an FPS bit of this game at one point even a pure text type game at one point. This is the adages of online games and more so for mmo games they can add major shifts in game type at any time they want.
GW2 is a great deal more fixable then other mmorpgs there a lot more that you can add to this game with its build in ability of real time jumping rolling and some level of “aiming” skill.

That says more about you as a person that it ever will about this update.
Some of the reactions of people on here are frankly, laughable.
I don’t find the minigame all that fun as I’ve had two out of three groups quit halfway complaining about length and difficulty. I do agree it is a bit long but I can stick it out rather than cry into my pillow at night.
This is a really fantastic update even though I do have a couple of issues with it. The idea behind it is great and I would love to see stuff like this again and would be happy to see it stay too.
For those complaining about it’s placement in he world, thank you for being the best April fool I could ever ask for. Lots of hugs and sloppy kisses. xxx
It’s a serious game for serious people.
ArenaNet has always done these kinds of light hearted stuff.

The term ‘fantasy’ is not one that’s solely applicable to ye-olde-worlde style scenarios. There’s nothing about GW2 that’s medieval and a lot of the details published prior to the game’s launch higlighted this as a way to show how different Tyria was from Middle-Earth-esque settings, and Tyria of the past (GW1). The charr and asura have technology that’s far beyond our own because magic would, logically, /further/ the development of technology.
As for the story and lore – I’m a role player. The story and lore are what I’m here for and one asura’s pet project? Absolutely fits in with the asuran approach to life and the applied magical sciences. Personally, I love this mini-game/puzzle. It’s incredibly inventive and gives me a whole new way to play GW2.

so you’re complaining because this game deviates from the tired “wizards and dragons” fantasy?
Notalkingplz (PvE/Spvp) – Guardian
Rough Trade (PvE)/Urok Ashpaw (Spvp) – Engineer
All I got to say is, this game the developers actually do stuff, you actually see updates and whatnot, compared to other games it takes a long time for that to happen.
Don’t think anet spent all there time on this super adventure, theres more than 1 team and they all work on different things.
Think of it this way, would you rather receive nothing or to have something.
And yes I like super adventure box, it gives me things to do in GW2.
The instance itself is fun, the overarching theme behind it is bad. One thing that Halloween showed me is that you can have these types of events in the open world. The entire open world. Pulling people out of your world to go to one small place or instance has a detrimental effect overall to the gameworld. It wouldn’t surprise me if some of these same people who are saying that this is so great and yaya happy day are the same ones who were complaining when fractals came out and concentrated people in LA. The GW1 mindset of an instance for everything and everything in an instance needs to stay buried.
You have a huge glorious open world Anet, use it.
some kind of mashup of american mmo game play and nonsensical japanese anime styling .

Really? How do I avoid the “super fun box” some idiot felt inclined to drop into the boss fight on a meta today? The minis, the weapons.. the cheesy, moronic, primitive graphics and game music of 25 years ago are not what I bought into with this game.
Fine if it is a minigame. Leave it in there. Away from the world. Far away from the world.
Agree with OP 100%
Am I the only one disappointed we didn’t have Commandos with modern rifle and armor skins?
Game launched and its a beautiful fantasy world, possibly one of the best ive played.
But im starting to see it go down hill pretty fast.I mean what exactly is Anets goal here? Is it not a fantasy game ?
It had some questionable concepts at first, then back packs and hoodies came out in the store…..really ? theres almost nothing worth buying as is, and 1 of the 3 armor sets looks like a reject from a bad kiss concert superhero convension..But now theres the super box…..now im seeing people running around with digital monkeys and theres anoying digital effects and clouds……
So what is Anets goal here? some kind of hybrid game ? will I be able to buy a ford truck in the cash shop soon ? maybe a skate board ?
Am I the only one disapointed by this stuff? The game has the potential to be a fantastic fantasy world and instead its turning into some kind of mashup of american mmo game play and nonsensical japanese anime styling .
Can someone explain the point im missing ?
It’s just another nail, one of many these last few months…
We’ve been awake since March 2007! Please help!
“GW2 the game with more rolls than roles!”
This isn’t your father’s fantasy MMO…
I mean, we have bows that shoot unicorns. I’m looking forward to the next serious fantasy MMO being released. GW2 is just a time killer until then.
People in this thread are all up on that grimdark. haha
I would like cute nurse outfits, cat ears, etc etc and have them equipped during combat plz!!!
I’m also with the OP; for the most part. Silly/cute is fine, but it needs to at least fit in with the world that’s being created. The Adventure Box feels so ham-fisted that it’s just annoying because it intrudes on the world so much.
Remember back to GW1. Kilroy Stoneskin and his events in GWEN were pretty silly, but still fit in with the game’s atmosphere. The costume brawl and snowball fight in GW1 were also silly, but also played off the atmosphere cultivated for the game. They also were kept separate from the rest of the game for the most part.

Figures that the first fun thing to be put into the game in ages would be hated. How about we remove anything deemed childish and immature so we don’t break people’s precious immersion.
Don’t play Guild Wars 1, the game this is a sequel to, then. It has grinches running around on Christmas, your inventory filling with things like candy canes or Easter eggs depending on the date. Oh, and a techologically sophisticated race known as the Asura, who have access to technology such as artificial intelligence, portal networks, and hardlight constructs capable of rendering an entire virtual world.
