SAB: Ok what kind of game is this?
Can someone explain the point im missing ?
Fun. You’re missing the fun & replacing it with stringent fantasy “rules” for no reason.
I tried SAB for 20 minutes and there was nothing fun and everything frustrating about it.
It sounds like a lot of you people would enjoy free realms if you enjoy junk like this.
One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.
I tried SAB for 45min and remembered there is more fun to be found elsewhere.
Not a hater, but not a hipster either.
This thread makes my inner child want to cry. She’s sad because some of you seem to have lost yours. Are you guys really so “grown up” that you can no longer appreciate stuff like this?
I’ll be joining some of you in the 30 club in a few days and the SAB had me sitting at my PC with a stupid grin on my face. It’s FUN! That’s why I play games… for fun. I’m weird like that!
Some people play this game to be masochistic you know. All these selfish people thinking every one should have fun! The nerve!

Why would those of us that enjoy this “junk” enjoy a game like that? Because it’s colorful and looks like crap? It doesn’t work like that.
Maybe it is because I work in the industry, but I am having a blast with this update. I think it is so cool that they had a small team put this together. I am 25 years old btw.
I am too having a good time with a fun part of the game! I don’t really think that the amount of times you’ve been around the sun on a big rock has anything to do with the fun you can have though, no matter how many times you’ve been round the sun, there’s fun to be had every time, and plenty of time to yell “get off my lawn” when your 90 to having fun lol.
I too work in “the industry” for a long time now. Maybe that is why I like the fun silliness of it as it gives me a break from the seriousness of work and yes I love the serious part of the game too though. I just find a little diversion to be awesome on the brain…a kind of relaxing funny awesome

I’m 32, and I LOVE the SAB! I’m seriously humming the Zone 1 music to myself right now as I’m writing this.
It’s not for everyone; I get that, and there’s nothing wrong with disliking it, but don’t try and tear it down for the people who are enjoying it. The 8-bit chests are now gone from the open world too, so aside from people using the Super weapons, there won’t be anything to spoil your immersion. (And personally, I don’t think the Super weapons look any more out-of-place than weapons made out of solid lava or ice.)
I was actually OK with the event until tonight. The event is a problem in that it distracts the development team from focusing on the core game which desperately needs their focus, but hey, it provides fun for a significant niche of the players—no harm done.
Tonight I found out that the chests were only in the open world for one day. This poses a problem for me. They released some nice skins associated with the event and available for baubles. No problem if there is a way to acquire them in the open world. Hey, there are chests all over; it will be no problem to get enough over the course of a month. But no, they have removed the chests.
I’m not into platform games. It’s why I bought an MMO. I do like nice skins, especially staff as there are few nice ones in the game. Why release a nice skin solely into a platformer mini-game that some players will hate? They had a win/win going and then they chose to remove the chests.
SAB served to remind me why I always hated those classic video games, but I will say it is well-executed and a cute concept, it’s just not for me (and apparently others as well).
I would point out that previous GW2 special content has always had various options to pick. If you didn’t like jumping puzzles there were other things you could do. In this case, there it is ONLY a jumping puzzle but with mechanics to make it even more irritating, or ‘challenging’ if you prefer.
It would be like ArenaNet making a month-long special content patch that was only for sPvP or WvW, leaving out everyone who doesn’t like those particular kinds of gameplay.
I think the SAB skins are very nice but I’m not going to force myself to play something I hate to get them. That’s not why I bought GW2. There have previously been various ways to get content rewards, it’s distressing to see their lack with SAB being the only option.
Whatever future content ArenaNet chooses to make, I hope they remember that not everyone is a die-hard fan of jumping puzzles. Or specific subjects like retro video games. Choice was always the buzzword for GW2, but the only choice I have for this content is to avoid it.

The skins (Rare versions that drop from the zone chests) can also be bought off the TP. Prices have fallen quite a bit since the first day, so I imagine it won’t be too hard for you to snag the ones you have your heart set on. It’s really no different from people who want Fused/Halloween skins that only dropped from the chests during the event.

I want to note here, you can trigger “Infantile Mode” (no I don’t like the name either) to turn off the annoying jumps if you’re just after the Baubles → Bauble Bubble → Skin conversion. It’s possible with some foresight to make quite a lot of Baubles doing the first two worlds for the few chests you can reach. A few tools to get:
- Bombs. You can open secret areas with this, and they’re always worth the one Bauble to throw the bomb. You can also use them if you like to kill the “Queen Bee Dog” and loot 10 Baubles from her and I think around 20 from the Honeycomb she guards.
- Shovel. A few hidden areas have dig spots where you can get decent amounts of Baubles.
- Large Purse. Don’t kill me but you do need to buy this if you want to do long farms for Baubles. This will allow you to hold 500 instead of 250, even as it costs 250. This means less time making trips out of the Box to bank your Baubles into Bauble Bubbles.
If you’re just doing chests, killing the monsters will spawn a key at random in the “room” the chest is accessed from. The ones in Zone 2 have 40 Baubles in each and are only moderately annoying to reach.
I find also that finishing Zone 1 doesn’t really have all that terrible a jumping puzzle burden. Beating it on standard format will get you some Bauble Bubbles too.
Just trying to help.
Tried the instance today. Horrendous. And that’s with muted sound.
Hey Anet, can you now start working on some 32-bit instances that feature difficult bosses designed for squads of 20ish players?
That would be called World of Warcraft.
